Crimson Lightning

I was just thinking about some interesting episode ideas, and I wanted to see if anyone would agree with me. I was wondering if there willever be an episode where you can see the Leaguers' secret identities. I can't seem to think of a creative was to show this that hasn't been done before though, but hopefully the writers can come up with something. Also I've noticed that the show is a little tipsy in showing the different heroes in equal amounts. I know thats to be expected because of Superman and the Bats popularity, but hey...they have their own shows, lets see them there! Personally, and I think many would agree with me, that Flash needs a little more time on screen. He makes the show completly worth watching! I would also like to have more Hawkgirl too, she seems to have a ver minor part, other than screaming and pulverizing things with her mace. :)
Hope to hear from ya! And here's a shout out to "The Flash, " who I hope will agree with me

Hi welcome to the boards Crimson Lightning. Yeah, I agree, but I have heard that there will be new episodes that spotlight Hawkgirl and The Flash.

Crimson Lightning, I believe your idea can be done.
When you spotlight a character who has a secret identity, you should also spotlight his/her counterpart. We basically know, thanks to other series, what Superman and Batman are like out of the uniform. The others, though, are a different story. Perhaps it would be interesting to see how the other heros spend their day when they aren't in the mask or costume.
I don't know if Diana is going to actually assume an identity this season, but it's been awhile since we saw her with a day job in Man's World on TV. Do you think the Flash spends the day on the couch watching cartoons all day? Where does J'onn go during the day? Is he always on the satellite? What does Green Lantern do? Does he have a day job? What about Hawkgirl? Maybe we could follow one of them around for 22-minutes (eight minutes for commericals  ).
I think this would be a creative way to see the alter-egos....unless this has been done already...oh well.
Did I spark any ideas, Crimson?

Heh. I can actually picture that. :D
I think John spends most of his time as GL, and when he's on Earth in his civ's it's like he's on vacation (or at least a day off).
J'onn and Diana are just J'onn and Diana.
Hawkgirl, well if those wings are real (and I suspect they are) I'd like to know how she hides them. I guess I could see her as a private detective, given her life on Thanagar (sp?).

Flash spends his day watching cartoons, doing laundry, running errands, cleaning the house, cooking dinner, and saving the day. All at the same time :D
I would love to see an episode focusing on the Leaguers secret IDs!
Oh, and Hawkgirl's wings are fake. Make of Nth metal or something.

I read some where that J'onn does live on the satellite the whole time.

I read that too! I think if we saw him in his off time, it would be a cool way to showcase what all they have on the satellite.

I like the "Day in the life of" idea, but I also think it could be worked into other episodes, preventing all those action fans from complaining about a "soap-opera-esque" episode in which nothing "exciting" happens!
Here are my ideas:
"The Gods Must Be Mad" or "True Destiny"
-An arc in which the League becomes familiar with the Amazon's belief's, Wonder Woman's heritage and the question of Ares' existance. When humanity starts becoming increasingly violent, with wars and such, Diana returns to her homeland un search of a renewed sense of her mission. Is she only destined to be a member of the Justice League? She flashbacks through all the "signs" the Oracle of the Amazon's kept recieving, and the shot of her and her mother by the shore is replayed. When a definate sign appeared, namely the strange appearance of the Wonder Woman outfit (which was known to be sealed in a special tomb on the island) within the temple of Athena, the tournament was held. The outcome, Diana's vision of Athena directing her to become Wonder Woman and her finally leaving the island round out the flashback and narration portion. All the while, Martian Manhunter keeps a long distance mental link with Diana learning her past while the League tries, rather unsucessfully, to breakup wars around the globe. On the island, though, a traitor walks among the Amazon's slowly attacking the Oracle and then the Captain of the Guard and finally the Queen. Diana runs to the League for help and to warn them of deadly outbreak, only to discover that the island is no longer accessable to her, as a being called Circe has cast a deadly spell over all the Amazon's including Diana, and is currently ruling over the island, weakening Diana's connection to the gods. Though the League clearly doubts the existance of the Gods Diana apparently derives her powers and inner strength from, MM is the most open-minded, trying to find a way to reach the sickly Amazon princess and strengthen her. Meanwhile, humanity is on the brink of starting a nuclear blowout, and the League is down a vital member, for if a "God of War" is truely responsible for the outbreak of hatred, only Diana could conceivably stop him. Before time runs out, though, Jonn figures out a way to help Diana back to the island where she defeats Circe using the awakening power of her lasso of truth. Athena appears and reveals that though she still has much to learn, she has greatly proven herself as Wonder Woman, and as an ambassador of her people. Circe is reclaimed and appears in Ares' netherworld (where he is heard but not seen, a la Ra's Al Ghul's first animated appearance!) and is transported to Man's World to prove herself worthy of her existance. All the while, the League manages to avert the wars, thanks mostly to GL, whose military background helps him get the opposing armies to agree to peace talks. In the end, Wonder Woman returns, all is well, and she quietly looks upward saying, "Thank the Gods":)
What-a-ya think? I really want to see Diana's background explored, as well as the introduction of Circe and the ever powerful Ares. They are Diana's main rouges, and I don't want to see them get the shaft just because she is on a "team" show! Plus what's with the whole "no lasso of truth" thing? It's essential!!! Please Timm, make an episode like this one!!!!

the recent brave and the bold limited series (a year or so ago featuring Flash and GL-- Barry and Hal) started off with them trying to see if they can be friends in civies and in costume
i think a JL episode along those lines would be pretty cool

Welcome Crimsaon Lightning!
I know it sounds really, really, really cliched, but I'd like to see an episodes where all the Leaguers lose their powers - leavin git up to Batman to lead them. I know, I know...been done before probably, but it'd be nice to see Batamn get his time in the sun on JL.
kid_flash
01-05-2002, 01:59 PM
Oh, please. You say that like Batman HASN'T had his time in the sun! He's already saved the day, what? 3 times in the 2 episodes he's been in? Batman gets way too much spotlight in JL, and he's definitely had his "time in the sun." I wanna see the Flash or Hawkgirl (the two who are sorta considered the "lesser characters") save the day.

I have to agree with kid_flash, DG. It seems to me the super-powered heros have already done quite a bit of floundering around when Bats isn't there. The creative team doesn't have to keep hitting us over the head with it. Yes, Batman is probably one of the most popular, but hey, it's about time they used some of the super powers to the fullest extent.
I like the WW story idea posted by DisneyBoy. Very insightful on the character and probably on all of the JL. I can almost picture a scene when WW is questioned concerning her faith in the gods by the JL. To them, this is kind of like belif in the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny. WW could pose the question "What do you believe in, then?" Then we could see into everyone's mind for a split second. What does the Flash believe in? J'onn?
Y'know, that could be a fantastic ep. Good job, DisneyBoy.

actually instead of losing their powers I would like to see an episode where the JL'ers minds are swapped-- batman's mind in superman's body, flash in WW or hawkgirls body
could be funny and potentialy cool to see the heros struggle with using their new bodies powers

Yeah, and Flash would end up in the body of Diana. LOL.
In all seriousness, I'd like to see the WTC JL idea which I started in a seperate thread on this board. Please check that one out and tell me what you think over there.

I also agreed on this. We already know about Batman's and Superman's secret identities. We also saw a bit of John Stewart's life before the corp in Blackest Night but Im interested in the other members. Wonder Woman, Jon'z and Hawgirl are all new to our world and I wonder how are they adapting to it. Also, I wonder how Flash looks behind the mask. :)

I have a few ideas that I'm trying to develop into a spec script...hey, does the creative team even accept those?
I agree with kid_flash, I think that Batman has already proved his worth threefold. What about an episode where something happens to Batman and the rest of the League has to solve a case without him? For example, a case that would otherwise be Batman's speciality (versus R'as Al Ghul or Scarecrow or somebody.).

What about a Swamp Thing appearance (based, of course, on the cool Alan Moore Swamp Thing)?

Of course, the JL would have to REALLY struggle in this episode, even if they are faced with a single, *normal* human. AFter all, they don't have their *normal* human to help deal with it. ;)

If some of these superheroes don't have secret identities and jobs, how do they pay for food and rent? If they spent every minute of their lives as superheroes without break, that would be like a living hell.
Oh, and I would reserve criticism on the characters' screen time until the end of the first season.

For an interesting twist, in a Hawkgirl episode, Hawkman could be a villain.

Wow you guyshave some absolutely wonderful ideas! I can so picture Flash just chilin on the couch watching cartoons. lol. Plus can you picture what he would saywhen he's stuc in Wonder Woman's body?! Just his expression would make me die laughing! I really think that they should explore their secret ID's in a funny way. I know they shouldn't make it a giant soap opera, but i think it would be worth it to see everyone taking a day off besides the "Bats and the big guy" wouldn't you?
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! I hope to have some equally good ideas for you too!

Howdy all,
I like Dick Grayson's idea of the "losing their powers" episode (seems like you can't do a show with super powers without an ep where they aren't there), but set it up so that Batman is NOT there to bail them out, and they have to rely on their own smarts and ingenuity to get them out of the situation.
If you want to know what Flash would do in Wonder Woman's body (body switches being another required plot element in all sci-fi/fantasy/comic genres), go find the episode of Farscape where the crew switches bodies, and John Crichton ends up in Aeryn =8^).
What I want to see is pretty specific (and I've even tried thinking some of it through):
1. The Tower of Babel storyline from the Mark Waid JLA run.
2. Airman Katar Hol of the Hawk Corps of Thanagar lands on Earth in pursuit of a criminal, and discovers Commander Shayera Thal, thought to be dead having vanished several years ago. What does Hawkgirl do when confronted with the ability to return home to Thanagar, and how has her time on Earth changed her? Key to this ep is that Hol does NOT stay on Earth to become Hawkman, nor is he ever referred to as "Hawkman."
3. The Big Old Magic Punchup episode, guest-starring Dr. Fate, Etrigan the Demon, Zatanna, and maybe the Phantom Stranger. A mystical threat threatens Big Evil Mojo, and the Stranger gathers Earth's mightiest mystic heroes and unites them with Wonder Woman, J'onn J'onzz, and Green Lantern to fight off the threat. Why GL? Because, to upend Arthur C. Clarke's syllogism, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." New computer animation techniques ensure Zatanna is actually wearing her fishnets, too =8^).
4. The Y Chromosome Blues: Some weird space virus affects all males on Earth, and it's up to Wonder Woman, Hawkgirl, and guest stars Batgirl and Supergirl to save the day.
5. Superman is accused of a murder, but submits himself to the criminal justice system to stand trial even though he knows he's innocent. It's up to Batman and Hawkgirl, the detectives of the JL, to discover who really committed the crime. A low-power episode; this one is really dedicated to brain power and observation.
6. An episode with the Atom in there somewhere. I've liked the Atom ever since he popped up in the Grant Morrison JLA run.
OK, OK, so fully half of the suggestions I have involve Hawkgirl. Sue me.

I think they need to show Bats fighting ability alot more. An awesome episode would be that the rest of the JL is captured by Ras agul and they will be terminated if Batman can't get by a Gauntlet of villians that are some of the world's greatest martial artists/wpns masters . Kinda like Bruce Lee in" game of death", he has to go up floor by floor and on each floor there is a fighter waiting for him. You could use villians like Deathstroke the terminator from Teen Titans,Deadshot, the Ninja he fought twice in BTAS,Bane & last but not least a brainwashed Nightwing! Anybody else out there that would like to see an episode like this? :D

As I've said before, I would love to see Braniac return in Justice League. They could either have him appear in a Panic In The Sky Storyline as kind of a sequel to the warworld episode. Or they could have him attack earth with the brainwashed Manhunters and GL corps at his command.

i like this idea a lot-- works very well especially considering the fact that superman would indeed allow himself to be tried
the question is how can you find a jury of his peers that is unbiased, especially after Legacy? =)

Forget Legacy; does Superman really HAVE any peers?? The only ones I would think of are all superhuman allies and such.
OTOH, after what he has apparently done to recover the public trust, I doubt you could get a jury to convinct without actual strong evidence; there may not be a lot of die-hard Superman supporters anymore, but you'll have a hard time finding 12 people who are all willing to convinct on distrust and suspicion alone.

Heh. You know, that's not even something I had considered seriously when I came up with the idea, although it would make for a great throwaway line. I figured the end of the story would come way before acutal jury selection -- it can take a surprisingly long time to go from arrest, indictment, and trial. I figured the story would start at the indictment.
The other plot element I had in mind for this story would be the discovery of seemingly damning evidence against Superman. Batman is going to turn it over to the authorities, while Hawkgirl favors burying it. By the end of the ep, she asks Bats if he would have really turned over said evidence. Before he can answer, Superman appears again and says that Bats was in right. "Nobody is above the Law, Hawkgirl. Not even us. ESPECIALLY not us." OK, it's a rip off from Alan Moore's last Superman story, but if you're going to steal, I say steal the good stuff =8^).

hmm it kinda (almost sorta) parallels the "In Blackest Night" backstory about accountability for superheroes etc
i really like it actually
what might be a little more interesting imho if BATMAN was gonna bury the evidence- quite out of character for him perhaps showing that even the batman has friends and a heart......
How about an episode where Luthor is about to kill Superman with a chunk of kryptonite but Batman swings in and saves him at the last second. Then Green Lantern drops his ring down the bathroom drain and Batman has to get it out. Later on Wonder Woman has trouble with her outfit but Batman shows her how to unstick a zipper. Next up we see Hawkgirl having trouble flying, but Batman shows up and reminds her to flap her wings. After this we catch a glimpse of the Manhunter feeling lonely at the prospect of being the last of his kind. Batman goes to Mars and finds a formerly undetected colony in suspended animation and revives them. Finally we see Flash, who is upset that he can't get Cartoon Network on his DishNetwork in the satellite headquarters, which ironically does not receive satellite tv. Using the BatJet, Batman runs a cable from Earth up into space, and also replaces Flash's dinky 13 inch set with a brand new widescreen.

I bet that The Flash and Green Lantern once had day jobs, but now that Wayne Enterprises is funding the Justice League, I'm sure that both of them use being a JL member as their "day jobs." I think that Wonder Woman and Martian Manhunter stay on the Watchtower a lot when they aren't saving Earth, since they are foreign to the world we live in, and probably couldn't fit in anyway. I'm also sure that Superman isn't Clark Kent near as often anymore, since being a JL member takes up so much time.
Batman, however, just keeps on doing his thing, uninterrupted... that's why he's a part time member! He still wants to be Bruce Wayne every now and then...
