Oh Lord, he has comments enabled. How long before a flame war starts?

So.....is he trying to reinvent himself as Al Hirschfeld? I noticed he describes himself as a "cartooninst", not an "animator". Has he finally run out of places to send his resume'? I clicked on the link marked "View My Complete Profile" and noticed that it only lists his gender. He seems to using the webspace as a nothing more than a gallery of random sketches in the hopes that someone may offer to buy them of commission him for work.

I'm tempted to ask him how the lawsuit against the South Park guys is going, but I think I'll just continue to ignore him.

What lawsuit against the South Park guys?

Apparently, ol' Johnny boy will blog his life like the Ultimate Warrior and state how much the cartoon industry is disrespecting him and how cartoons should be made. I got better things to waste in life than read up on the daily whinings of John K.

 Those pictures are scary. This coming from a fan of his art.

I wonder how long it'll take for him to blame everyone but himself for his work not succeeding commercially.

I'll say this: the Paris Hilton sketches are spot on. :D

Again what's this South Park lawsuit that John is involved in?

John believed that Trey and Matt stole his idea of a talking, singing and dancing turd...

They dropped the lawsuit against the "South Park" guys. They thought suing over a piece of crap was stupid.

The Goldie Hawn one is the best--I've been waiting for someone to point out how awful her "smile" really looks.

I both loathe and lament John K. and his work. But even I can't resist the hilarity of Barbra Bush looking with the fear of god at an incoming baseball.

Am I the only person who ever thought that his art was hideous, and the man himself not funny at all?

I've thought this since I was about 13 or so, and I've only learned one thing since then: That nobody agrees with me.

Ah well. I'm at least secure in the knowledge that the man's relevance is more or less at an end.

John K. is another example (Butch Hartman being the most recent) of someone who screwed up his own creation. And how sad. I was sooooo addicted to "Ren and Stimpy", and I remember how surprised and puzzled I was when I read of his battles with Nickelodeon. Why was he so determined to promote that Liquor character, an unpleasant, unfunny, ugly jerk, and why was he yelling about Nick censoring some of his gags? Didn't he realize that it was NICK, a kid's channel? So okay, he gets tossed out of Nick, and he gets a chance to bring back Ren and Stimpy, and he has no censors on his back, and what happens? Disaster happens. Dung happens. That's what happens! The new Ren and Stimpy were beyond awful. How sad, how sad indeed.

It's amazing how much John K. is starting to mirror Bakshi in the '90s: A rejection of Hollywood and animation in general and focusing more on still art. Oh well, he's gotta do SOMETHING to make money since his animation division has been on the down-swing lately.

Ugh, that Wired cover is disgusting.

As much as he can be a it of a ungrateful stubbon bastard at times, it's hard to not love his artwork, especially the caricature stuff. With everyone trying to draw either cute, sexy or anime stuff, it's great to see someone out there who really knows how to draw Ugly good.

See now, I have no issue with Goldie Hawn. She's far from being as much of a disaster as Paris is. Goldie is just a little goofy looking.

These drawings are caricatures-- they do mock the features of who has been drawn. Some of these are pretty scary--

I'm not too much of a fan of his work. I'm kinda concerned about that Weird Al animated music video coming up.

Yeah. "Ugly" is a most underrated chunk of the cartoon spectrum. Still, maybe since "Freakish" (as per Burton and Vasquez) is in vogue, we'll get more of the old ugglesome.

Speaking of anime, I'm almost too scared to find out what John's response would be to his opinion on anime.

Like, or not like?

For those who've never played Go! Go! Hypergrind, the ideal theme of the game was that Animation was a dying cause. It was so bad that Spumco was the last hope for the world of Animation. When they said that it wasn't a simple snicker and a "Hoho that's rich! This is a Spumco game. Of couse they would say that." At that point I just dropped my controller, got up from my chair, and looked out the window. I was staring outside of my apt. window thinking about how desperate the world of animation would have to be for this to happen. Think about this for a few minutes.

What if people like Park, Matt and Trey, Plympton, Hertzfeldt, Bird, Lord, Miyazaki, Burton, Groening, Antonucci, McCracken, Tartakovsky, Dilworth, Murray, Chung, Schaeffer, Firth, Barker, The Brothers Chapman, MacFarlane, Small, Chomet, Judge, Newland, Stanton, Lasseter, and Bartlett all dropped their pencils, computers, puppets, or clay and gave up on animation? In return their retaliation would be to turn to John K. to save the world of animation. Yet we all know the recent habbits of John K. over the past 10 years. John K. would produce horrible cartoons that are always behind schedule and never approved by the masses on a wide scale. Wouldn't that scare you to believe that John K. would try and achieve to be the next Tex Avery or Bob Clampett? Imagine if this image was a reality and took the place of every piece of animation that ever touched your heart.

Huh.......Spumco did the Old Navy Flare Jeans ad from 1999. I did not know that. I recognize the characters up there in that mash (Roxy and the Heartaches....their names weren't mentioned in the ad).

That proves that at least a LITTLE of that stuff has gotten out. The Heartaches are the only non-freaky characters up there though.

You don't find the big eyes freaky?

I don't know. Some might be alright. I can't really say having not seen them. He did capture the proverbial "lightning-in-a-bottle" with the classic Ren & Stimpys. I'm not going to disparage his ability as an artist, it's his personal attitude I have a problem with.....
