Check the rules if you want to see why people are banned.

Generally speaking we issue warnings for profane language and out of control flaming before we ban people for those offenses, and most people take the warnings to heart and don't repeat the offenses. When people are banned it is usually after they have made pests of themselves for so long that people start complaining to the mods. And for the one UNforgivable sin: registering under 2 or more user names.

Relatively few people have been banned, and we don't like to see the subject being discussed--banning is not a happy experience for anyone, and the less we dwell on particular cases the better we all feel.

Fortunately, very few. I think the last time I checked, 12 user names were banned, and most of those were multiple IDs that a couple people were using. For the most part, I think the rules are common sense and it's easy to follow them. And it's not like the moderators and administrators hover over the posters to see who goes next. It's rare, but it's also there if necessary if banning is required.
