For some reason this wasnt easy to find, Target...nope,Walmart... nope,Bestbuy...had to ask clerk and got one.

Took it home. Watched the special features. Cool stuff but we dont get to see the actor for Starfire.

Watched the first 3 episodes.

Great transfers,dolby surround.

I love Teen Titans. Its a fun show and the charicters interact well with and off of each other. I cant wait till Seasons 2-5.

I give is **** and a half. It would have been nice to have some commentary tracks from Glen and the writers/directors.

Okay, finally got the season 1 DVD.

Had a ball going back down memory lane (has it been 3 years already?) in a TT marathon with some hilarious commentary from my brother. The Apprentice finale is still as awesome as I remember it, and I still enjoy rewatching "Sisters" and "Final Exam" as well. Also, I noticed some details, like that black-haired fan from "For Real" shows up at the drive-through in "Car Trouble."

The extra features were nice and plentiful. Seeing Robin insulted by Puffy Ami Yumi was funny. Never knew that most of the crew are Mad Mod fans. However, I didn't see the point in having a "Special Features" section on the first DVD only to tell us to check out the second one. While I've yet to check out the Spanish or French tracks, I think I would have enjoyed having a commentary option. No deleted scenes either but maybe they'll put that on a special edition.

DVD Quality: **** 1/2

There aren't really any deleted scenes to include. Most of the cuts are made at the storyboard stage, so the scenes that would be included in a deleted scenes feature are never animated to begin with.

I guess all of my special edition movie DVDs have me spoiled. I always assume everything has deleted scenes.

Then in that case, it'd be interesting to see a storyboard or sketch gallery... in future releases maybe? ;)

Awesome release. My Wal-Mart had it for $17.83 Canadian, which is the same price as one of the previous single disc releases. They really crammed a ton of bonus material on here, including the music video, featurettes, and some cool easter eggs. Probably the best value of any DCAU release so far.

5 stars.

Wonderful stuff.

The only nitpick I can think of is the lack of commentaries on key episodes; the creators have such interesting things to say in the documentaries, I'd be curious to see what they'd say about certain episodes.

It was cool seeing all the older episodes (well as old as a cartoon made in 2003 can be), and it's amazing how the style has changed over the seasons, particularly in the music. In episodes like 'Masks' and 'The Apprentice, Part 2', the music was such a different style to the usual (both were done by Kristopher Carter, if I remember right).

And Slade... he was away from being himself for so long, I forgot just what how twisted he is.

Great episodes, great extras and the lack of a commentary is just that; a minor nitpick. So, ****1/2.

I did a dumb thing and ordered this dvd with other season sets like The Batman, Batman Beyond, and the Justice League. And since BB and JL won't be coming out until the end of March, I'll have to wait an extra month to get TT.

Drat. And I was excitedly waiting for this in the mail box too :(

How much work with Teen Titans did Bruce Timm do? I know he was considered a producer, but exactly how much help did he give to it?

Also, why was Mad Mod changed to Detention?

I can't wait to buy this set, I have been long overdo for buying TT DVDs, but thank God I ended up waiting and now I can buy the Season Sets instead of the barebones. I may have to run out to Best Buy or some place like that in the next couple days and get one. I had originally planned to wait until later (anime is SOOOOOO expensive X_X) but I don't think that will be doable, I need to get this show!

P.S. A large thanks to WHV for releasing this and all the other DC Box Sets!! ^_^

As far as i knew BT did nothing on TT, but if he did do something it must have been very small on a episode.

And 'Detention' was the original name for the episode, it was later changed to Mad Mod, i don't remember if there was a reason, but i actually like the Detention name better.

He was (as he put it himself) a safety net in case Glen Murakami found himself overwelmed on his first outing as producer and main creator. But seeing as Murakami was managing fine, I think b.t. helped mix and edit a few episodes before turning completely to JLU. Did he have the credit removed by the beginning of season 2 or 3?

It was there until season two, I don't know if it was removed sometime during it or until season three.

say, when did the Japanese version of the opening first start airing? If that was in the first season, does anybody here know if it is on the box or if they discarded it and gave them all english version?

It started on "Nevermore" and is on both that and "Mad Mod" in this set.

Did anyone notice some odd quick flashes of black during Detention and the Apprentice two-parter. I think it was most noticeable in part two during Robin's fight against Slade, but I can't remember. It was weird, because it seemed more like an error with the episode itself than something on the DVD.

Are the new season sets of Teen Titans actually in widescreen? Or are they fullscreen ("original television presentation") like the 6 and 7-episode volumes?

Tay the Cat
03-18-2006, 09:58 PM
It depends on where you're buying it.

If it's Walmart, there won't be a widescreen edition in sight.

If it's anywhere else, they should have both.

Hmmm, OK. Only reason I ask is because Amazon lists it as 1.33:1, as do many review sites, and with Season 1/Volume 1's mislabeling of it being in widescreen (despite being full frame), I'm a bit cautious.

All TT DVDs are and will be in Fullscreen.

It's under the "Kids Classics Collection" and according to the wonderful world of research, kids hate widescreen.

Gah, that sucks. Well, I'll be skipping the season sets until they change their ways.
according to the wonderful world of research, kids hate widescreen. Actually, they do. I remember being in Target one time, and I overheard a conversation where a mother asked her young son which one to buy: Widescreen or Fullscreen. Almost instantly, he exclaimed, "FULLSCREEN!" I almost said something, but... it's hard to persuade eight year olds anyway, especially by a complete stranger. ;)

Okay, i'm officially confused. What's the significance of Widescreen on Teen titans? is it like Justice League in that regard?

Pretty much. Except Justice League made slightly better use of the widescreen framing. Any current show animated in widescreen (JLU, TT, The Batman) still keeps most of the important information in the center. The sides that get chopped off are basically "breathing room" that show a characters elbow or more of the background.

The heck? I've seen widescreen editions in some stores. I'm confused now.

The Teen Titans first DVD release (Season 1, Volume 1 - "Divide and Conquer") was improperly labeled as a widescreen package. They later reissued it with the corrected package and disc art.
