I looked at the box office numbers for the Harry Potter Movie, and the thought came to mind "This IS WB, the next step is animated series..right?"
Well, I know so much that Harry Potters creator(sorry, forget her name), is VERY careful when it comes to making Harry Potter a franchise. I think its a very good thing on her part, really..she doesn't want her 'baby' to be destroyed.
But, lets just say, sometime in the future, she decides a Harry Potter animated series is o.k. Do you think It'd actually work? The way I see it, each book could PROBABLY equal an entire season? But, knowing kidsWB, it'd turn out to be a highschool teen animated drama, with a PokeMon flare to it? "Chocolate Frog, I chose you!"...err..

The only problem with that is most people know how the book is going to end. There's no character building, no nail-biting wait for the season finale, nothing like that because it's been done before...twice, the book and the movie.

So...if they were smart (this is the WB we're talking about here), they could do something pre or post the series. Stories with the generation before Harry (his parents, etc.) or stories with the generation after (the characters' children) won't be told by J K Rowling so they're up for grabs. That could work as an animated series.

But I don't think they should do it at all.

It would be cool to see Harry Potter animated, but it doesn't work because of the books and them being a certain number. They could do a before or after the books, but I would think it would be a big flop in the end. And hooray for J.K Rowling, she's married!

I think kids will wanna see Harry Potter if it is an animated show, not his parents or his children.

That said, Rowling doesn't chronicle every day of the school year in her books. She jumps through time rather quickly in her novels, so you can do a bunch of "untold" chapters with the animated series.

That said, I don't think it's that great an idea, personally.

Plus, I saw a 1998-1999 anime series with a similar theme (young magicians in a magic school...but they're older teens) , so I can kinda guess what the show would be like. Well, okay, Harry Potter will be less ecchi than that anime I saw...

The movie and its sequels should cover the books themselves, and the animated series would probably cover the "in-between" times, as LLJ said. Of course, WB'd be taking some creative license at writing these episodes, and I don't know if JK Rowling would be okay with that. Then again, maybe the sweet sound of money would change her tune and she'd sell out. I don't know if she would; but lots of writers have.

And like LLJ said, I think kids would be more interesting in the adventures of Harry Potter rather than his predecessors or descendants. Then again....spin-off series?

I've been hearing for a long time now that an animated series is in the works...I really hope it doesn't happen though. I love the Harry Potter books and an animated series seems like it would kinda ruin everything...I don't know.

As for J.K. Rowling, she currently the second richest woman in the United Kingdom (only under the Queen), so, unless she's a completly different person than I think she is, I don't think she would make the decision based on money, but whether she wants other people to have creative freedom with her characters.

From what I've seen & read, J.K. is still a fairly humble, and kind person. Of course, thats in the eye of the media, maybe not?

I've heard for a long time about the Harry Potter Cartoon, but I haven't heard anything but mumbled rumors..so..eh?

Its like my friend Elisa first said when I mentioned toys & a movie coming out. "Visuals like these will only ruin the imagination & power of the books. SCREW 'EM!" hehe. But really...I did enjoy reading the books, placing my own imagination over the story..and while the movie was REALLY GOOD, I still kinda feel bad now, because a lot of my previous idea's are now..how do you say...shattered? :yakko:

You're referring to Mahou Tsukai Tai (aka Magic User's Club), right? That series was hilarious! :p Have you seen the dub that Media Blasters put out? I got the bilingual DVDs, and the dub is actually pretty good.

Yep. Only seen the OAV series, though.

Cute show, with some cute female characters.

Dude, I loved MMT!!!! That series was the coolest, and oddest, lol. Animated HP may be cool, may be not, if they make one, well, we'll find out then wont we? Everyone keeps saying that the movie and toys will ruin your imagination. Screw that. I have my own opinions and ideas about things and a great imagination. And actually alot of the stuff they did in the movie matched what I had imagined it would be. If it doesn't fit with what you imagined, and you like what you thought of more, keep it! Just because you see one main interpretation of something shouldn't mean that it hampers on your imagination.

I thought an animated series for Harry Potter was already greenlighted. And sometimes knowing that the character will live or something isn't always that bad. The ride there can be just as fun, even if you know Harry will make it ot next week. In Batamn, we always knew he'd live, but that still made the episodes exciting. Although... still don't think I'd watch it.

The kids would go crazy over it, just because of the fact that it's Harry Potter. They go crazy over everything Harry related.

There's a lot of content in those books, all those little anecdotes and stuff. That would make for a great series. :)

Im pretty sure it will happen .

I hope it doesnt.

Harry Potter is a great series.
They're great books.

They're more than just books really,
they're literature. Timeless.

The appeal of the books themselves is
how beautifully written they are.

Its why the series was able to transcend
the childrens book market and capture the
hearts and minds of adults.

I recommend the Potter books to single
adults all the time as something more than
a "kids book".

Then the Movie was released.

And I discovered something interesting/ disturbing.

The movie was meticulously faithfull to the book -
almost scene for scene.

But the movie played like a kids movie.
almost childish.

And the reason for that was that the story was there
but the language was gone. The language and the
writing were what lifted the books in to another plane.

It watered down the content.

And now a cartoon?

How much worse will a cartoon be ?

Id hate to see it.

~

Then again the cartoons meant for children ...
I've got my Justice League - why should I complain right?

Lets hope the series is about Hogwarts and not Harry.

I think that originally that the movie being animated was a thought. Then again, there were a lot of really stupid ideas for that movie, we're lucky that they actually made it! Animated would be fun because you can do so many more things with animation then you can do in live action. The monsters and teh magic and special effects. Hidden chambers. All those things could look really awesome animated, as long as they did a good job of it. But as an animted cartoon, they would most likely make it very kiddy centered. Because everything assumes it is a child's book, when it fact it is not, and has never been. That would be the only draw back, taking the darkness out of HP.

Harry Ptter (the book) will never be surpassed by any movie, the writing was perfect and no movie is capable of improving upon the book.

What I meant to say was that if there were an animated series, just the Harry Potter name would ensure its success. Personally, I'd never watch it. I've had enough of Harry Potter.
