I've been getting into the series of Ranma ½ and I really love it! Now I'm wondering about the OVAs and movies. I've looked this up a bit but haven't found really clear answers.
Are the movies (#1 "Big Trouble in Nekonron, China", #2 "Nihao, My Concubine" and #3"One Flew Over the Kuno's Nest") made up from OVAs put together to form one longer movie or what? I get the impression that the 3rd movie is from the OVAs, but I'm not sure about the others.
Any clarification on this would be much appreciated. :)

Movies 1 and 2 are standalone movies. Movie 3 was a short(well, if you could call it a short...) that was an opener for one of the Urusei Yatsura movies. When they were packaged, Movie 3 was put with the OAVs.
All the other OAVs are manga adaptions, including Movie 3.

Thanks for the info. Now, on to my next question: what's Urusei Yatsura? :p

An insanely long series made from the same person (Volumes 35-40 were recently released with Volumes 41-45 coming out soon and 46-50 coming out in June).

I decided to buy the rest of the series a year, everything was to find, except Nihao, My Concubine Viz DVD. It took me two months to find and buy a legit copy of that DVD (found it on Ebay), but it was a good anime movie and worth it.
Also, if you want information on the Ranma 1/2 manga volumes that Viz have yet to release in the U.S., use a search engine to search for "new ranma project". But if you like the Ranma series, please buy the Viz mangas of the series.
Finally, I am wonder, what got you into collecting the Ranma 1/2 series on anime. Did a friend recommend it? Did you read about it on the web? Did you read some Ranma fanfiction and it got you interesting in buying the series? (don't laugh on the last one, it's how I got into collecting anime and manga, I read some Ranma and BGC OVA based fanfiction and it started from there)

Just a heads up...both the movies and OAVs are getting a cheaper repackaging from Viz. The OAVs will be released on February 28th and the movies will be release on May 16th. Both are listed at $50.00 but can be found at some on line shops for under $40.00 as pre-orders.

I wish all the Ranma series was released in affordable prices, 100$ for a few episodes is definately not going to happen...
i wish they'd pull an 'economy pack' like Magic Knight Rayearth did. if i remember the Ranma OAV's weren't that good either..
