Posted it here because it looks like an anime mech.

That is sweet. I don't want one that looks like a chick though. That would be creepy. I want one that looks like Mazinger Z.

Obviously you've never seen/read chobits. :P

Mazinger Z >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Chii.

Nuff said. Although a super robot loses appeal when it can't crush people and buildings flat.

Seeing Chobits is EXACTLY why I don't want a computer that can pass as human O_o

Oh, can one look like a VF-1J?

That's true. But the rocket punch could deliver cold drinks across the room in milliseconds.

Oh, can one look like a VF-1J?

That was my second choice.

But isn't there the implied danger that it might start to question its own existence and disappear to find out its true purpose in life besides turning on the TV and handing people juice?

If this thing was offered to the service industry, we'd have 50% unemployment instantly!

Have any of you guys seen the Asimo safety video?
https://asimo.honda.com/pedestriansafety/index.asp?

Kinda sounds like the FMA dub's Al, but it speaks in monotone and certain words come off phonetically. Um yeah, I had to shut it off after a while. But I do want a robot one of these days.

Chobits showed the most realistic future where you have hot robots. Nobody talks to humans anymore and just has a robot. ;)

Looks like the mechs from Patlabor.

That's because it technically is a LABOR.

The robot shared the same designer as the Patlabor mech. I read about him in an old Newtype magazine.

Personally I wouldn't mind one that looked like Optimus Prime with the voice to match.:D

"We are hoping to make them something comparable to service dogs," Isao Hara, senior researcher at the institute in Japan's technology hub of Tsukuba, just northeast of Tokyo, said of the pair of robots painted in silver and blue. "I think it's quite possible for them to interact with humans. We are now studying how robots can join the human society."

Talk about Tachikomas, Check out the orange mech on the left...;)

And yes, it DOES dance.

By the way, the external designer, Mr. Yutaka Izubuchi (who designed Patlabor Mechs) named this mech "Promet".

I've seen footage of Sony's QRIOs doing fan dances... but nothing tops the clunky hula Honda's Asimo attempts several times a day in Disneyland.

Nah, but a Hinata or Shinobu-bot would do nicely. ;)

Paging Knux 2 Thread. ;)

//I only want a robot if it's got more processing power than my current computer, and it's got a PCI slot for my current midi card.
///Finally, my DJ, my lead back up dancer and my studio workstation, all in one package. Tre nerdcore-chic, no?

Meh, I would get a bunch to be inbetween people who do all the menial mind numbing work and rendering/processing

the rest would be telepatchicly controlled to do my bidding as I would do myself

and I wouldn't need to pay them anything

I have a sense that the first few commercial models aren't going to be cheap or have processing power rivalling/exceeding a computer.

Well it costs around 5-6K to have a top end CPU with all the options and max efficancy, and the ability to overclock has the power increase more.

So if they're more than that probably, they would just end up as novelty items.

Designed by Yutaka Izubuchi, and it works?

Well, I guess that's one up for Izubuchi fans, and one down for KA-******s.
*shrugs*

Similar vibe to the AV-98 Ingram Patlabor - well, it's the same designer. *shrugs* Still looks like something out of a mecha anime, same with the JGSDF Helldiver paratrooper labor.

Now, the Python, on the other hand....
