An Unwanted Vacation -Story String

OOC: Ok peeps, let's give it a try. Please, nothing crude and try to keep it PG... stop me when I sound like a mod, lol. Please try not to stray too far off the topic... Let's see if we can actually develop some kind of plot! I found that putting AND THEN at the end of the post gets a better response... it's not required. Try to get a grasp of what's going on before you post and most importantly, have fun!



Barbara yawned and leaned back in her chair, flipping through the channels. She glared down at the cast wrapped firmly on her leg and groaned loudly. Great, just great. What a stupid way to break your leg! She groaned as the scenario again ran through her mind. Sure Rene, I'll help carry these boxes down the stairwell... I can't believe my stupid high heel broke! It had sent her down two flights of the PD's stairs, and gave her a broken leg. She had to stay off it for three days and then go to crutches for several months. To make matters worse, the only thing on t.v. was prepaid programming.

"Can this get any worse?!" She screamed, throwing the remote across the room.

"It just did- you see now you have to pick it up" A voice came from behind her. Barbara turned slightly and glared at the newcomer.

"What do you want?"

"Hey, I just came to say hi... bite my head why don't you" Nightwing replied softly, slipping in from the shadows. He took a seat on the couch, across from her. Barbara gave him an icy stare.
"I heard about your accident"

"Shut up"

"What?"

"It's not funny"

"Am I laughing?"

"You're thinking about it" Barbara replied with a small pout. Dick's eyes shown with michief and a smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. Barbara bit her lip, trying desperately not to smile at him.

"What makes you think that?" Dick asked innocently. He removed the mask from his face, a huge grin spreading across his features. Barbara glared, a smile starting to form. Dick's grin got wider. Slowly the glare lightened and her smile widened. The two began to laugh.

"I feel so stupid!"

"Hey, you had no idea your shoes were defective" Dick offered.

"But tripping on my own shoe? Come on!"

"It could have been worse..."

"How?" Barbara asked between laughs.

"You could have tripped on flat ground and fallen into traffic"

"Please, don't say that! With the luck I've been having lately, I wouldn't be surprised if it happened!" Barbara whimpered.

"Well, think of it this way... you're taking a vacation"

"Yea, an unwanted vacation!" Barbara said with a dry laugh...

AND THEN...

OT: I'll jump in I just wanted remark that sometimes it is also helpful to put down if you're doing anything from a POV. I had to read over the second post twice only because I couldn't figure out what was going on. It could just be me though,lol. I'm assuming that whatever is up with Tim almost dying, and talia and redClaw will just be explained along the way by whoever? I just found it a bit confusing, everything moved very fast. Very sorry If I'm sounding picky or anything...blame it on the cappuchino flavored Slimfast I had a little earlier, which does not taste like real coffee... ;)

OOC: Um... Peterparker, I'm not sure if I totally understand what you wrote. I know it's your first time, but if you read what Batgirl wrote and what you wrote, they kinda contradict each other...

Am I the only one who notices this?

You can't change things from the posts that have already gone up- we've established that Babs broke her leg while carrying a box and falling down, so where did you come up with all this stuff about Talia?

Plez explain, I'm reluctant to post until I'm sure I know what's going on.

Sorry Barb Gordon, thegame8866, and others who were confused about my continuation of the story. I'd totally forgotten about the part where they explained how Batgirl broke her leg and have deleted my post as a result. Now that I know how a story thread works and have noticed the details of Batgirl's opening chapter, i hope to add my own post soon.

OT: No prob! lol, I'm just glad I wasn't the only one kinda confused. You're post was great Peter, just confusing,hehe. Well, anyways, here I go.

Dick sighed, holding back a laugh which he knew would have gotten him in major trouble. She could be amusing and very cute when she was annoyed. Dick smiled.
"And what are you so happy about, Mr.Grayson?"
Barbara asked, her tone a bit sour. Dick grinned even wider and knelt down, his nose only a few inches away from her own.
"Oh, nothing. But you're just so cute when you're upset."
"Oh gee, thanks."
She replied sarcastically. Dick sighed and feigned a hurt look.
"Well, I guess that settles it."
Barbara raised an eyebrow,
'Settles what?"
"Well, I was going to ask you out for a date this saturday, but if you're going to continue on like this...being mean to me and all..."
He trailed off, eyes staring at the ground, lips set in a pout. Silence. He stole a glance at her. He found her peircing green eyes staring right back at him.
"Nice try boy wonder. That hurt puppy dog look doesn't work on me."
Dick gave her a lopsided grin, his eyes sparkling.
"Well it used to."
Barbara opened her mouth, but then closed it. Well, he had her there. Damn, she hated it when that happened.
"Well, maybe I'll drop by again later. See ya Babs!"
And abruptly Dick stood back up, replaced the mask on his face and headed for the window.
"Oh yeah, one more thing!"
He said, his back away from her. She turned her head, but he wasn't at the window anymore.
"This."
She felt his breath on her face as he swooped in a kissed her on the cheek.
"Dick, you little!"
But by the time she had whirled around he was already out through the window and into the night, her curtains billowing in the night's breeze.

Nightwing sat perched on the edge of a building ten minutes later. Scanning the streets and alleyways below. From the corner of his eyes he saw a shadow slip around the bend of a building and slink along the wall. Nightwing crouched a little lower, eyes narrowed, waiting to see what might happen...

OOC: Don't worry about it peterparker, not a problem.

"I'm back. You miss me?"

"Don't you have somewhere to be?" she giggled after a breif pause. Dick smiled.

"Trying to get rid of me? C'mon, I'm lonley!"

"No, of course not, just giving you an excuse to take off. You know you don't want to hang out with a helpless gimp while you could be out crimefighting!" she explained jokingly.

"Okay, I see what's really going on here," he said, and got up. He thought for a second as to whether he should clue her in on who he just had an "encounter with". No, not a good idea. Not yet. Barbara smiled and got up herself, clutching her crutches and using them to help herself along.

"...But of course if you don't want..." Barbara turned around smiling at Dick, but her smile faded.

"Dick?" she asked no one. Gone.

"You're becoming more and more like him every day..." she whispered with a chuckle.

"I heard that," he snapped, his head popping back in through her window. He appeared ready for anything.

"I've got to one more round of the city. Want me to pick you up anything? Ice cream? Chicken soup? Shoes that don't collapse?" he asked.

"I'm good," she informed, turning toward the kitchen.

"Fine. I'm coming back anyway, in like an hour okay?"

"Whatever," she murmered, and he was gone.

Nightwing sureveyed the city. It really was pretty clumsy of Babs to break her leg while carrying a box. She was one of the most amazing gymnasts and martial artists he knew, and an amazing crimefighter as well, but she couldn't manage the stairs. Shoes or no shoes, it was sad.

He's looked over most of the city, and nothing. Just who he'd met earlier... But he'd deal with that tommorow night. He looked at his communicator, checking to see if Bruce or Tim had called in. Nightwing's eyes went wide with concern.

They hadn't. But Babs had. It was a distress call.

AND THEN...

OOC: Peter, the two posts followed the other... That's ok, keep trying. It took me reading it three times to see that. I'm following thegame####'s post.

Dick slid to a stop outside of Barbara's house and almost broke down the door. He stumbled inside to find the housr ransacked and Barbara was no where to be found. He let out a startled cry and ran into her bedroom, hoping to find a clue...

"She's not here Dick" Nightwing spun around to see...

OOC: The reason it's confusing is because when I originally wrote it, it was in place of what Barb wrote. When is submitted it I realized she had beat me to the punch, so I decided to change it... It makes less sense but I didn't want my writing to go to waste. I'm really sorry PeterParker05, I appriciate your persistance and I understand it wasn't easy to follow, but I think it's best we go through with what Batgirl wrote following my post.

On with the story-

Batman stood in his dark manner as usual.

"She's not here," he repeated. Nightwing's eyes frantically darted around the room, looking for Babs to be there. But she wasn't. He looked anyway, desperatly hoping she might turn up. It took him a few seconds to come to terms with himself. Get a grip, Dick he told himself. He turned to his former mentor.

"I suppose you were answering the distress signal as well?" he managed to mumble. Batman nodded.

"I've searched the place. She's nowhere to be found. I couldn't find any fingerprints either, strange with this kind of a struggle."

"Very strange," Dick murmered. Just then the phone rang. Nightwing picked up the reciever.

"Hello?"

What came from the other end of the line made his blood curtle.

sorry, but let me check. someone please make sure i have this right. barbara broke her leg. nightwing comes and visit her, leaves again, has the encounter with the unnamed person, comes back, leaves again, has the riddler/catwoman encounter, and then comes back to find barb gone. and then the batman/nw thing at barbs place. am i right?

Grumbles: If I knew it would have been this much trouble... Ok, this is what happened. Barbara broke her leg. Dick came to visit. He left, had an encounter with a shadowy, unnamed person and went back to visit Barbara. Dick left again for one more round. He comes back, Babs is gone, Bruce is at her place, investigating the damage also. Dick picks up the phone... Ok, all clear? Someone needs to add what Dick heard on the other end. Let's proceed.

this is my first time ever doing this, so if it doesnt work ill just delete. here goes:

"Well, well, well, you have grown up there, Boy Wonder."

Nightwing frowned.

"Yeah, what's ur point?"

"Tsk, tsk, tsk, youngster, you should respect your elders!"

"Bite me, Rah's!"

Batman jumped. "Are you talking to Rah's Al Gul, Nightwing?"

Rah's heard Batman over the phone, and said to Nightwing, "Boy, let me talk to my daughter's beloved."

Nightwing handed Batman the phone. "Where's Barbara?"

"What am I gonna do with you, Detective? You are always very jumpy."

"Where's Barbara?"

"Well, that shouldn't be to hard for the world's greatest detective."

"Where's Barbara?"

"Oh, my, dear detective. Until we speak again...."

Nightwing is puzzled. "What was that about."

Batman answers. "Let me explain, come back to the batcave with me."

Back at the Batcave, Batman explains Rah Al Gul's fascination for Barbara. "It was one night, a long time ago, after u left being Robin, the only 3 people defending Gotham were Barbara, Tim and myself...."


And then.....

Sorry to interupt, but I had to!

"Bite me, Ra's!"
THAT was priceless! You know, in the other story string, Ra's also had a thing for Babs... must be contagious...

Nightwing ran his hand through his hair in irritation.
"So, you're telling me that Ra's has a....a "thing" for Barbara?"
Batman gave a barely discernable nod. Nightwing threw his hands up in the air, making an incoherent exclamation. With a sigh he turned and looked at Batman.
"Well, what are we going to do? And you know it's a "we" thing, got it?"
With his cowl on, Dick couldn't see Bruce raise an eyebrow at the young man's stare and look of "you're not keeping me out of this". Batman proceeded over to the computer without answering Nightwing, which meant that Nightwing was right. Batman began brining all sorta of things up onto the computer screen.
"And what exactly are we looking for?"
"Ra's last known whereabouts, so that we'll have someplace to start in our search for Barbara.
"Do you think he'll call again?"
"I don't know."
"He wont......"
Dick trailed off, his lips sent in a line. He started again,
"He wont....do...anything to her, will he?"
Batman continued clicking at the keys.
"Bruce?"
Nightwing said, teeth clenching.
'I don't know."

Barbara moaned softly and opened her eyes. She was in a beautiful room, one resembling that of Golden Age of Persia. She was more then a little surprised to see her attire had changed also. The top was a sleeveless midrift, the skirt long and flowing, with two slits up to her thighs on either side. She let out a startled cry and looked around. She had just started to doze when a figure had come from behind her in the shadows. After that, everything had gone black. However, she had heard a voice...

"Good Evening my precious" Barbara's face turned dead white and she turned to see Ra's al Ghul looming over her. He wore a dark smile on his face. He leaned down, bringing his face close to hers, his body inches above hers. Barbara whimpered. "Did you sleep well my dear?"

"What do you want?" Barbara cried out. She would have sent her leg into his gut, but since it was bum it was no good.

"It's good to see you again.. my pet" He slipped his hand under her chin and pressed his lips against hers. Barbara choked and desperately tried to push him away.

"Father I-" A woman appeared at the door and Ra's turned. Talia stared, speechless. Ra's pulled back and Barbara fell back onto the pillows at ease. She had been spared- for now...

"What do you want Talia?" Ra's growled angerily.

"I thought... Bruce will be trying to locate us... Ube wanted you" Talia lied through her teeth, locking eyes with the captive. Ra's swore and then stormed out into the hall. Barbara looked away.

"Thank you Talia"

"I only did it because my father deserves better then you" Talia snapped bitterly. Barbara looked up at her with a weak smile.

"I know"

* * *

"So, would you mind running this by me again?" Dick asked as Bruce typed madly on the keyboard. "How did they meet?"

(AND THEN...)

"It was during the crime war between the last of Rupert Thorne's deputies. The city was on the verge of exploding and Barbara was resting in the Batcave while I handled patrol," Bruce began as he relayed the story to Dick.

3 years earlier

"It's just getting worse and worse, Alfred. I heard Bane might even be getting involved soon," Barbara complained to Alfred as she studied the properties of venom on the Batcomputer.

"And if he is getting involved, Ms. Gordon, you will need to be fully rested to combat him," Alfred reminded her.

"I know Alfred, but I can't sleep between this and wondering where Dick is. I mean how hard is it to write a letter," she said.

There was silence. No calm British voice reminding Barbara that they had been through worse.

Barbara turned around and away from the computer.

"Oh my God," she barely whispered.

"Your assistanse is required and mandatory," the woman said curtly.

There, standing over Alfred's unconsious body, was Talia of the Society of Shadows.

And by her stood Poison Ivy and Catwoman.

And then.........

[Sugar Daddy]

Talia says scornfully, "Your Boy Wonder isn't here to save you now, baby."

"Leave, get out of here now!"

"No can do, Barbs, got work to do, Father needs you."

"And Catwoman and I say that you should follow along."

Then Catwoman knocks Barbara out with 1 swift kick, to the forehead from behind Barbara, and they take her away with them.

Talia, as if controlled by an force outside her body, leaves a note for Bruce, saying: Sorry, Beloved.

**************************************************Bruce comes back to the cave after a night's work.

"Oh no, Alfred."

"I'm ok, sir, but Barbara's gone."

"What? How?"

"I dont know, I was knocked out from behind."

Bruce walks over to the letter sitting on the Batcomputer.

"No, Talia, you didn't."

"Talia was involved?"

"She left a note."

"That's curious."

"Kinda like the Riddler, haha."

"I hope he's not involved."

"La dee da dee dee da da!"
Tim, walking down to the Batcave on a staircase from Wayne Manor, is singing his favorite song.

"Tim, get in your gear. We are going searching for clues."

"For what?"

Batman fills him in.

Tim suprises Bruce when he says, "I know exactly where to go, let's move!"

And then....

First off, if memory serves, lasportsbiggie said earlier that this flashback was right after Dick left and it was still just Bruce and Barbara defending Gotham, but whatever. I'll just keep on going.


Batman and Robin stood over a darkened warehouse at dawn as the sun rose across the harbor. In clear vision to the Dynamic Duo, sat the largest aquatic plant greenhouse in the Western Hemisphere.

"I think it has something to do with what I found in there. Ya see, while you were on patrol, we got a call from Arkham. Poison Ivy had escaped with whereabouts unknown. I figured you were pretty busy with Thorne's guys so I took it upon myself to find her," Tim said quickly with adrenaline pumping through his veins.

"You should have called for backup Robin. Ivy can be dangerous. Besides what does this have to do with Talia and Barbara?" Batman said as he readied his bat-grappler in his hand.

"You'll see when you get inside," Robin said. He turned to see what Batman would do, but he had already swung off the building and crept in through the back entrance. Robin soon followed.

After an hourlong investigation Batman finally spoke, "Ivy was definitely here, but what does this have to do with Barbara or Talia?"

"Look in the back office," Robin barely whispered.

Batman entered the small room with a slight trepidation. He wasn't all that sure about the situation because with Talia there is always Ra's Al Ghul. That was all he needed with Dick and Barbara gone and Tim acting stranger by the minute.

However, nothing really seemed out of place in the office, but then he saw it. Upon the vine covered desk lay a green envelope sealed with a purple question. This can't be happening Batman thought.

He slowly picked up the envelope and the desk rotated to reaveal a staircase. He quickly ran down skipping many steps at a time. He couldn't believe what he saw.

And then.............

[Bud 'n Lou]

Batman recoiled from the trio of creatures--one of Ivy's most hideous manifestations yet.

The small room was poorly lit. The dim light of the upstairs was all he had to rely on. But he could still see enough to know these things were ugly.

He instinctively edged backward, away from them.

And then he felt a sudden, swift impact to the small of his back. He grunted as he was propelled to the basement floor, at the feet of the plant monsters.

He rolled away just in time to avoid being impaled by a green, spear-like limb.

Batman began to realize what was going on. He took a cold glance at Tim, who only stared back blankly. Then he turned and bound up the stairs.

Batman darted after him, but Robin had narrowly beaten him to the top and sealed the exit, leaving him in total darkness with Poison Ivy's creatures.

He could hear them climbing the stairs, making insectile clicking sounds. He tucked the envelope he found on the desk upstairs into his utility belt and prepared to face them.

AND THEN.....

[Barb Gordon]

(OT: man, this is one heck of a long flashback!)

Batman knelt down as the creatures approached. From a small compartment in his belt he pulled out a flare. He tore off the capping and instantly the stairway was incased in a bright red glow. The creatures recoiled from the flaring glow, giving Batman just enough time to dart back up the stairs. He chucked a few ball bearings down at them which exploded, blowing up the creatures. He turned to find Ivy, but she was already dashing back out of the place. As he ran after her he heard a few muffled calls. He stopped, trying to locate the sounds. He creapt toward a large cabinet to his left, batarang raised, and pulled open the cabinet door. Robin was there, bound and gagged. Batman quickly tore off the gag.
" It's Ivy!"
Robin said, gasping for breath.
"I know that."
"No, no I mean, she trapped me in here like a day ago. She talked about making up for my place or something."
Batman simply nodded as he cut the ropes from Robin's wrists and ankles. Now he knew why Robin had been acting so odd and knew where Ivy was. It was another one of her plant creatures.
"Come on."
Batman said roughly, and he raced out of the warehouse.

It feels very silly writing And Then so much...but, well.....AND THEN......

Poison Ivy stood defiantly facing him in his private conference room. They were aboard his own jumbo jet on course for a small complex in Antarctica.

"You have failed in your mission to stop the Detective and his boy partner," Ra's Al Ghul, lord of the Society of Shadows, said quietly yet firmly.

"I can still get him. I'll keep my part of the bargain so that you will restore the world's flora to it's place of honor," Ivy said desperately.

"I don't think you will. We all have our parts to play and yours has been a failure. Your reliance on Edward Nigma to distract the detective was a failure. Meanwhile, I have my own operatives in play. Bane will keep the Detective busy with Gotham's crime war, my daughter has recruited Selina Kyle into my services and Ms. Kyle in turn has brought me my mate as long as I spared her beloved from the apocolypse. She has brought to me the mate I must have as prophesied by the demon Etrigan. Barbara Gordon, descendant of the Celtic Queen of Darkness will become my beloved," the Demon said with perfect clarity.

"Are you kidding? She's one of Batman's girls. She'll never play a part in your twisted fantasy. No matter who her ancestors are," Poison Ivy said with spite feeling she had been double crossed.

"She will whether she wishes or not. I has been preordained. It is the cosmic order," Ra's said confidantly, "Ubu take her away and have her sent to the dungeon of Sector 7 when we land."

Ubu grabbed Ivy by her waist and through her over his shoulder as he walked away to the Jet's cargo bay.

Sitting by himself, Ra's began to think outloud, "With humanity's darkest hour approaching, I will stand proudly with my daughter Talia and my betrothed, Barbara, the heir to the dark throne."


Back in the present.......In the Batcave.........

"So let me get this straight," Nightwing ranted, not believing what he was hearing, "Jason Blood's alter ego told Ra's that Barbara was the heir to some dark throne and that she would rule his new earth at his side."

"Those were dark times. Ra's almost succeded that time. We almost lost the world. We almost lost Barbara," Batman said as he recalled the freakish Demon romance.

"Well how'd ya save her then?" Nightwing asked knowing ther was more to the story.

And then........

"Dick, we found out where Ra's was because Ra's airplane that he as on never made contact with any authority, which is required by international law, and he tried to stay out of radar detection, but he failed."

"That seems a little too cheesy, Bruce."

"You take what you can get Dick, you should know that."

"Whatever, keep going Bruce.

"Right, so Tim and I go to the plane and we get in. It was as if Ra's wanted visitors. There were no thugs guarding him. We went searching for Ra's, and found him in a large suite.

Flashback

"Beloved!"

"Talia, back! Detective, nice to meet you and your Wonder Boy again."

"That's Boy Wonder to you!"

"Shut up."

"Hey"

"Shut up."

"Batman, he can't talk to me like that."

"Hey kid, shut up. Anyways, Detective, it has been nce seeing you once again. Tata!"

Batman is puzzled. "Ack!" Batman goes down. "Ack!" Robin goes down.

Batman and Robin wake up in a drowsy state in 2 seats of the plane, tied up. "Batman, wake up!"

Batman answers, "What?"

"Batman, it's me, Barbara!" Barbara is tied up next to them in the plane.

"Barbara, are you ok? Where is your suit?"

"Yea, I am fine, and Ra's stole my suit, but I think Ra's is going to drop you and Robin out of the plane."

"What are you doing here then?"

"I think Ra's is forcing me to watch."

"Beloved! You cannot be killed. My father cannot go back on his word."

Talia unties Batman.

"Talia, thank you very much, but I don't think Ra's is going to be too happy about this one."

'Run, beloved, run!"

"Not without them!"

"But you don't have a choice."

"That's where you are wrong, Talia."

Batman proceeds to do the unthinkable, he knocks Talia out. He then unties Robin and Barbara.

"How are we getting out of here, Batman?" Batgirl asks.

"The same way we got here," Batman answers. "The Batwing has been waiting outside."

Tim chimes, "We don't have any time to lose, look!"

"Detective!!!!!!!!"

Batman almost cracked a smile. The 3 members of the Batman jump out of the plane thru an emergency exit, into the waiting Batwing.

"Detective!!!!!!" Ra's shouts, as his men shoot at the Batwing.

End Flashback

Dick says, "Bruce, I'm glad you found Barbara then, but what do we do now."

"I think I can answer that."

"Oh no, not now," Bruce is pissed.

"Superman. What are you doing here?"

"Dick, let me talk to Bruce. Bruce, I no we don't get along, however, this case involves me."

"How? Don't tell me one of your enemies decided to partenr up with Ra's."

"No, no, Bruce. This time it is only your psycho friend, or in this case, friends."

"What?"

"Look, you know that Ra's was involved last time, and Poison Ivy, but here's what you don't know. Bane, the Riddler and Catwoman are also involved, all 5 of them, 6 if you include Talia."

"Ok, so where do you fit in?"

"They have a hideout in Gotham, Bruce, but you would never be able to find it."

"And why is that?"

"Because their hideout is........."

Note: I don't know too much about Etrigan, so if someone wants more him in this post of mine or in future ones, I would need an explanation about him. And, in my opinion, I think the we should stick with Batman villans only in this story string, with guest characters, like I did with Superman, and if someone wanted a story with Superman villans and more of Supes, we could do another thread for a Superman story string. Basically, IMO, this thread should focus on Batman, with other character, like Superman providing help when need be.

"Their headquarters are invisible, Bruce," the last son of Krypton said calmly.

"Let me guess. You're gonna tell us that Etrigan has encased his building in some kind of invisible spell," Nightwing said said sarcastically.

"Actually, he stole the technology from my Fortress of Solitude," Superman informed his allies.

"So lets get our facts straight here. Ra's Al Ghul has kidnapped Barbara because he wants to marry her and he believes that she's the descendant of some ancient evil queen. Also, he decided to actually marry her this time without our knowing by hiding in an invisible fortress. But here's my question why would he involve the Riddler or Bane again. Thorne's crime war was over before I got back and Ivy hired the Riddler the first time," Nightwing concluded, wondering what kind of mess he had gotten himself in.

"I was wondering the same thing, "Clark"," Batman said.

"To distract me," Superman said while looking down.

"How are they distracting you," Batman asked while Superman said nothing, "How did they distract you?"

"Ra's has the Riddler hacking into all Lexcorp computer systems and.......Bane has kidnapped Lois," Superman said quietly.

"Who's Lois?" Nightwing asked.

"Lois Lane.....she's a friend," Batman answered.

"So now we have to rescue Barbara and Lois" Nightwing said as he realized that Lois was obviously more than a friend to Bruce.

Meanwhile in his private conference room in his invisible fortress

Ra's sat quietly upon his throne, in a meeting with Ubu, Catwoman, and his chief of security, Lady Shiva.

"What is the status of the Superman situation?" Ra's asked astutely while sipping his herbal tea.

"Superman was recently spotted flying over Gotham City. We lost his signal over area W4, subsection 17," reported Lady Shiva.

"Wayne Manor," Catwoman remarked.

"We must eliminate the Detective and the Kryptonian. Our safety depends on it," Ubu warned his master.

"You can't kill Batman. You promised me , Mr. Demon's Head," Catwoman shouted, leaping from her chair.

"He will survive, Ms. Kyle. Now, do you have Mr. Nigma under control?" the Demon asked.

"He's under control," Catwoman said defiantly.

"My Lord! We have an alert on the Shadow channel. Your daughter, Talia, is trying to kill the future Shadow Queen. She's trying to kill the Batgirl," Lady Shiva reported with urgency.

And Then.......................................

Ra's rushes into the area. "Talia, how dare you defy me!"

"Father, you are to good for her!"

"What has been decreed has been decreed. Go to your chambers at once!"

"Yes father," Talia answers, extremely angry at what just occurred.

"Catwoman."

"Yes, Ra's."

"What is the status on Lois Lane?"

"She is still unconscious."

Ra's smirked. "The Detective and the Kryptonian will probably want to get their ladies back, so let's have some fun at their expense."

"I'm all for it."

"Call your riddling friend. Tell him to set up The Big One!!!!"

Meanwhile, at the Batcave---
Dick is angry. "How can we find something we can't see?"

"That's the million dollar question, Dick," Superman answers.

"Simple," Bruce explains. "You don't. You lead them out."

"And how do we do that?" Dick asks.

"Get in your suit, Dick, and go with me in the Batmobile, Clark, follow us."

"Where are we going, Bruce?" Superman asks.

"We are going back to Barbara's apartment, I have an idea."

Thanks for the compliment lasportsbiggie. That last post was full of mystery wasn't it. This first part is being written from the Riddler's perspective. Well here we go again.

It was a dark night in Metropolis. I had been working through the night on Project: Big One. Catwoman hadn't called me, but an hour ago. However, I'd been working on this one ever since Ra's Al Ghul had told me about it.

For Ra's to succeed in his whole wipe out humanity plot, he had to dispense of humanity's greatest defenders. Which is where Catwoman and this Lois Lane person come into place. He had promised his little girl that he wouldn't kill the bat, but he didn't say he wouldn't wear him down until he couldn't move.

Catwoman doesn't know it yet, but she wasn't hired just to help kidnap Batgirl. Old Ra's could have done that on his own. She's Batman's weak spot so the Demon Head figured he should keep him in check.

I've hacked my way up the ladder and I now have access to all of the systems. This would include Luthor's own, hidden cloning program. I'm ready for the Big One. Within the next day, the Lois Lane and Selina Kyle clones will be up and running. As long as Superman and Batman don't know we've switched them, the clones could manipulate them at will.

But little does my new employer know, I've hidden clues in their speech patterns, but I doubt that big ol' bat will be able to solve this riddle. Oh its just delicous.

Meanwhile in the invisible fortress
(no longer in Riddler's perspective)

"So let me get this straight. Your boss still thinks I'm the Queen of Darkness. And he wants to try to marry me again. I thought tripping over my foot was bad," Barbara said as Lady Shiva and her medical attendant, Dr. Hugo Strange, stood over her.

"I don't know what you are talking about girl, but you are most assuredly the heir to the Throne of Darkness. Dr. Strange's blood screening proved it," Lady Shiva said as she checked the restraints over Barbara's wrists on the medical table.

"You realize that they'll find me and they'll rescue me right," Barbara said with a sarcastic smirk.

"Actually they won't. In fact, not even Superman could see us here," Lady Shiva assured her.

"How's that possib.....," Barbara began until Dr. Strange injected her with a halucinagenic.

"She'll lose all self control now," Dr. Strange muttered weakly in front of the dangerous assasin.

"That is pleasing. She was quite a security risk before. When she still had the drive to escape that is. Also, Dr. Strange, no matter what authorization, she uses, Talia is not to come near the Demon's betrothed," Lady Shiva briefed.

Before Dr. Strange could reply, Barbara's head swung up.

"If I'm gonna get married. Who's gonna walk me down the aisle," Barbara asked woozily.

"Our master is very entrenched in tradition. He insisted that your father walk down the aisle. Commisioner James Gordon will be arriving within the hour," Lady Shiva responded.

AND THEN...............

[Barb Gordon]

(OT: boy is this getting interesting! and quite confusing....ack,soo many villains!)

"Hmm, haven't been in this seat in ages..."
Dick said as he and Batman climbed into the Batmobile. He stole a glance at Batman, but Bruce was already starting the ignition, eyes glued ahead. Superman followed from the air as they headed for Barbara's apartment.

"G'night Commish."
Came a voice, half muffled do to a hotdog in the speaker's mouth.
"See you later, Bullock."
Commisioner Gordon replied with a nod of his head. He leaned back in his chair, removing his glasses to rub his eyes.
"Commisioner"
"Not right now please."
He said, putting his glasses back on.
I'm afraid that you don't have choice."
Came a voice from right behind him. Strong arms grabbed him, lifting him out of his chair with ease. Without a chance to retaliate, Gordon felt a needle pierce is skin, and then....darkness.

Dick let out an audible sigh, leaning back in the passenger seat.
"Anything wrong?"
"No, nothing at all. If you don't count the fact that Barbara has been kidnapped by a madman....who has imployed other nuts to help in his plan.....not to mention the fact that he plans on marrying her....and that it now involves not only us but Superman as well. So...nah, just your average night, right?"
He smirked. The car came to a sudden halt, throwing Nightwing hard against his seatbelt.
"We're here."
Batman said, a slight smirk on his face.
"You did that on purpose!."
Nightwing hissed, but Batman was already inside the building. He felt a breeze settle behind him as he got out of the car. He turned and saw Superman smiling at him, an all knowing look on his face.
"Oh shut up you."
Nightwing huffed and he and Superman followed after Batman.

At Barbara Gordon's Apartment---

Nightwing and Superman are following Bruce inside when they hear, "Woah, Superman, cool!"

Nightwing and Superman were startled. Batman, cool and collected, asked, "What took so long Robin?"

"Just doing the nightly rounds, Batman. But I was listening to your conversation over the Batcommunicator, thanks, I'm all caught up."

"Good, but next time, answer my call faster."

"Fine," Robin snapped, peeved at Bruce's insistence on reminding him about his not answering the call.

"Ok," Batman said, "the thought came to me that if they went after Barbara, what are we going to do about her father? He's going to want to know."

"Yeah," Robin said,"That's a good point, but what can we do?"

"Good question, Robin, and the answer is I don't know. We probably have to get him to believe that Barbara went away without telling him."

Nightwing, frustrated, asked"That's great, but WHY ARE WE HERE?!?!?!?"

"Calm down, Nightwing. Here's why."

Batman ripped Barbara's alarm clock from the wall. He opens it up to find a hidden camera inside.

"Batman, how did you know that?"

"Robin, I knew that because I gave Barbara her alarm clock for a gift for her new apartment, and it just occured to me that its not the same one, and Barbara would never do that."

"Batman! Look what it says on the camera!" Superman exclaims.

Everyone their says, "Oh no."

The camera had a question mark on it.

Batman's voice communicator with the police rings with a code red emergency.

"Batman here."

"Batman, Commisioner Gordon has been kidnapped! The captors were last seen entering the airport!"

"I'm on it! Out!"

"Superman, we can drive their fast enough. Can you take us there?"

"Let's go."

*****At the Airport*****
"Superman, where are they? Use your x-ray vision!" Nightwing shouts.

"The building is coated with lead, I can't!"

Batman takes charge. "Ok, we have to split up. Nightwing, go with Superman...." BOOM!!!!BOOOM!!!!BOOM!!!

3 boxes of TNT exploded at that second. Superman jumped and protected the crimefighters of Gotham with his cape.

"What was that about," Robin asks.

"I think here is our answer," Batman said.

On the door to the entrance of the terminal the 4 crimefighters were at, was a note. It read: Sorry, Detective, to lead you on this chase, but it was fun, tata. Oh, and by the way, the wedding is in 24 hours, and the bride and her father are waiting with excitement.

"Batman, that means they do have the commisioner! How!" Robin wondered.

"I don't know, but we need to find them, and fast!"

Superman whispers in Batman's ear. "Does Wayne Enterprises have any secret buildings in Gotham?"

"If we do, there secret for a reason."

"Don't screw with me, I'm serious."

"Yes, we do. Why?"

"Because they are in one of them."

"And how do you know that?"

"Simple, look at the back of the letter."

Batman turned over the letter.

"Oh no!" The back read: Courtesy of Wayne Enterprises


And then......

In the invisible fortress........

"What do you mean he's been leaving riddles all across town?" Ra's shouted with fervor at the news his closest aide had brought him.

"It is exactly as I said father. Edward Nigma has become a rogue element in our organization. He's leaving clues at key points to help my beloved find us. Also, I do believe you put Selina Kyle in charge of him," Talia said informatively as if she knew it would happen.

"Then I will place you in charge of this. Have Ms. Kyle and Mr. Nigma flown to holding cells in Panama. Have Bane oversee the transport of our new Lexcorp clones and have our technology team take care of Mr. Luthor's computers," Ra's ordered Talia. He could see in her eye that she enjoyed disposing of these insane characters.

As Talia exited, Bane entered the room carrying, between his gigantic hands, Commisioner James Gordon, gagged and all.

"It is good to see my future father-in-law in such good health. You may release him, Bane." Ra's said with a smile.

As he was sat down, Gordon glared at Ra's. Fire burned his eyes, only intensified by the words, father-in-law.

"Please ungag him, Bane," Ra's politely ordered. Bane struggled to get a good hold on the stubborn commisioner, but he eventually succeded and removed the gag.

"May I offer you anything to make you fell better, father of my betrothed?" Ra's asked not expecting an answer.

With those word Gordon sprang to life in ligthning like fashion, and ran across the room. Before Bane could react,he gave the Demon a swift kick in the gut, knocking him over.

"Well, that made me feel a whole heck of a lot better," Gordon replied.

Meanwhile in the "Wayne Enterprises secret building"...............

"I don't want to ever do that again we had to crawl through at least 15 miles of sewer tunnels to get here and even then it was hard to find," Robin said exasperated.

"Hence the "secret building"," Nightwing reminded.

Before, Robin could reply, Batman stopped the conversation, "Quiet boys we don't know what could be going on in here."

Using his x-ray vision, Superman replied, "But I do. We better get in there soon."

Before anyone could even ask for an explanation, Batman ran ahead and swung open the doors leading to a large open assembly room.

In the room on a podium stood the Riddler in mid-speech. "And as his daughter Talia has been sent to retrieve us, we must do something. Which is why I have "assembled" you all here today," Edward Nigma said trimuphantly as he addressed the army of Riddler clones.

AND THEN............

[Sugar Daddy]

"Ooh, Batman and Friends, glad to see you could join us! Get them Riddlers!"

"Let's go!" Batman shouts.

The Riddlers were not much competition. Batman, Nightwing and Robin destroyed them with Batarangs, and Superman just manhandled them.

"Edward, I thought you could do better than that."

"Oh yes, Batman, I am so sorry I dissapointed you. Sheesh!" Riddler laughed. Batman cuffs him.

"Ok, Riddler, you know the story. Where's Barbara?"

"I'll never tell!"

Batman knocks him out with one punch.

"Beloved!"

Batman, Superman, Nightwing and Robin turned to look at the other door to see Talia.

"Batman, she loves you!" Robin smirked.

"Beloved, give me the riddle boy!"

"Where is Barbara?"

"She belongs to my Father now!"

"She belongs to herself!"

"Beloved, ack!"

No one noticed Superman knock Talia out.

"I'm sorry Batman, but we have to."

"It's ok, I understand."

Nightwing asks, "What are we gonna do with her and the Riddler?

"Interrogation time," Robin says.

"Down boy," Nightwing says. "That is illegal Robin."

"I'm laughing," Robin says sarcastically.

"Seriously, though, where are we going?"

"On the next floor down, there is a floor just for occasions like these."

"What are you talking about?" Superman asks.

"I had it equipped with Batequipment."

"And did anyone else find out?" Robin asks?

"No, Barbara and myself did it together."

"Let's move!" Batman says.

At the underground floor-

Talia and the Riddler wake up tied up in chairs.

And then.............

[Barb Gordon]

"Wow"
Was all Robin said as they reached the bottom floor. Nightwing smirked.
"Yep."
He immediately opened up a box and began storing things in his compartment. Batman and Robin proceeded to do the same.
"So how can you fit so many things in just your gloves and boots?"
Robin asked as Nightwing opened mini compartment in his left boot.
"Skill."
Robin rolled his eyes.
"All right, everyone set?"
Batman asked. They nodded.
"Well, do we have any idea where to go?"
Superman asked, who'd been leaning against the wall waiting.
"No, but I know how we might be able to find out."
Batman replied. Without another word he began leading them to where they had left Talia and the Riddler tied up.

"Where are they?"
Batman said simply as he approached them.
"Like I'd tell, ha!"
The Riddler teased.
"Shut up, I wasn't asking you."
Talia stole a glance up to see that Batman had his eyes glued on her alone.
"I can't Beloved. My father, I can't let him down."
"And why not? I can't imagine that you would want Barbara to marry him. Wouldn't that move you aside. Wouldn't that make Barbara more important to your father than you?"
Batman had his eyes trained on Talia as Nightwing continued speaking, his voice low and even.
"I doubt that even you Talia would want to become second place. Just tell us where they are. Just think, without Barbara, then you'd be on top. And it wouldn't be you interfering, it'd be us."
Talia closed her eyes, slowly opening them again to look searchingly at Batman.She sighed,
"All right, I will lead you to them."
"Then let's go."
Batman sighed. He untied the rope at her feet, so that only the ropes on her hands remained.
"So where are they?"

On the Society of Shadows jet...

"My Beloved, I must continue to do my duty. I will drop yourself, Superman, Dick, and Tim off at the invisible fortress with maps underlying the underground entrance. Meanwhile, I will take Catwoman and Riddler to a holding cell in Panama. You must move quickly though. My father is prepared for every situation. he plans to proceed with this wedding. I cannot let that happen. She is unsuitable, besides she is all ready in love with Dick. She told me. Now you must go. Remember my love is with you," Talia said as she planted a kiss on Batman's cowl.

Without words, the four heroes ran out of the plane and parachute and flew to the ground below.



Meanwhile in Lexcorp World Headquarters, Metropolis

"So you've found our hackers, Dr. Pon," Lex Luthor said to the department head of MicroLuthor.

"Not exactly sir. We've found the organization that stole the computers that were used," Dr Pon informed Luthor.

"What do you mean not exactly. We have to be exact here. I've all ready lost 34 billion dollars! Whose computers hacked into ours?" Luthor shouted at the top of his lungs.

"An organization called the Society of Shadows, Mr. Luthor," Dr. Pon said nervously.

"Thank you. Now I want you to get me back my computers and then I'll make thes nuts pay for messing with Lex Luthor," Luthor said pompously.

"I don't think so," Lady Shiva said as she blasted out an airvent and crept into the room. Her and several other operatives blasted Dr. Pon with stun guns and filled them up with medication.

Lady Shiva picked up her cell phone and reported," We have subdued Luthor and his associate. They'll remember nothing from the past 48 hours. All evidence now points to Edward Nigma as having worked alone and as far as Lexcorp's concerned. We don't even exist."

"Good work," Ra's responded over the closed frequency, "I will meet you at Stonhenge. The ceremony will happen tomorrow night at mignight."

Meanwhile in the invisible fortress........

It would have been and idyllic setting if they weren't being held against their will. Barbara and her father both knew it was a hologram, but they had had little time to talk in the past few days. So they sat nervously at a fake picnic with fake food on top of a beatifully green hill.

"So this fellow thinks that you're the heir to a throne of darkness? My little girl?" Gordon asked his daughter. He hadn't realized lately how grown up she was looking. Being a cop, he was used to being everyone's hero, not the victim. This gave him a new perspective.

"Yeah. Ra's Al Ghul is just a total whack job! There's no way I'm gonna marry him. By the way, I heard about ya kicking him. that made my day," Barbara said with a smirk.

"It felt good too! That man was driving me nuts. I forgot to ask, how's your leg holding up?," he questioned while noticing that Barbara had something else on her mind.

"I'm trying to ignore it, but Daddy, there's something I need to tell you before you here it from someone else here. I don't know how to say this, but I'm Batgirl," Barbara stammered with trepidation.

"I know," he replied smugly.

"What do you mean, YOU KNOW?" she asked him with bewilderment.

Gordon laughed as he answered, "I've know for the past year. I get bored sometimes, so me and Bullock try to guess who you all are sometimes. I figured it out one night at the Batsignal." Barbara began to laugh too and soon they were both hugging, laughing, and crying sitting upon a holographic hill when all of the sudden the hill dissapeared and the holograms were gone.

They were merely in a big white room only littered with the appearence of Ra's Al Ghul and Ubu.

"We must leave, my family. It is time for the wedding of the universe," Ra's said simply before picking up his walky talky.

"Bane," the Demon said, "I want you waiting in the fortress for the Detective and the Kryptonian. Are the Lois Lane and Selina Kyle clones in place?"

"Yes sir," Bane reported.

"Then inform our guests when they arrive that if they attempt to stop my wedding, I will drop Ms. Lane and the Catwoman into a defective Lazarus pit."

AND THEN........

[Barb Gordon]

The four of them landed with barely a thud. Quickly they slunk into the shadows and began pulling out the plans. Batman fiddled with a handheld radio system to try and see if there was anyone talking inside the building.
Robin looked to his side to see Nightwing smirking as he unrolled a map.
"And what are you so happy about?"
he whispered.
"Babs loves me...I knew it!"
Nightwing whispered back, he began looking over the map. Robin rolled his eyes.
"Oh come on, it obvious with you two. Don't tell me you had doubts?"
"Shut up."
"You're kidding"
"Shh!"
Came Batman's voice and their conversation ended.
Batman glanced over at Superman.
"Hear anything?"
Superman nodded, after a few minutes of silence he nodded again.
"All right, do we know how to get in there yet?"
Nightwing gave him the thumbs up, rolling the maps back up.
"All right, then I'll explain on the way, let's go."
Nightwing took the lead this time, Robin behind him and Batman and Superman whispering to each other.

"Move!" Batman exclaims.

"Lois, Barbara!" Batman exclaims.

"Let's get them and run!" Robin screams.

"No." Batman adds coldly.

"No?!" Nightwing and Robin exclaim.

"Something doesn't seem right."

OT: uh lasportsibiggie, i kinda left the Lois and Catwoman clones in the fortress. Ra's and Barbara were all ready on their way to Stonehedge. Just thought I should let you know.

"Take a close look at their skin," Batman pointed. "When something gets cloned, it starts as an embryo. The same solvent in the Lazarus Pits that stops growth can also be used to speed it up. However, it doesn't do as good of a job. If you look at the skin, you'll notice that its texture is like that of a baby's. If these are clones, than the heat from the lazarus pits should start a counter-reaction and they should turn into babies."

"But Batman, clones are human too!" Robin cried.

"I know."

As the clones lowered into the pits, they started shrinking. Just as they started looking like babies, Nightwing jumped into the pit and opened his arms. Batman fired his grappling hook into the pit, and retrieved baby Selina. Nightwing caught Lois and hit the wall of the pit, shielding the baby from the fumes. Robin caught the baby, and Nightwing climbed out. At that moment, a dozen Society members entered the room...

"Here!" Batman shouted, as he tossed the baby to Robin.

"Oh, let me do all the dirty work," Robin complained.

"Get the Bat first!" yelled what seemed to be the commander of the Society of Shadows group. Nightwing jumped on what he identified to be the leader, and the other eleven all ran for Batman. Batman fired his grappling hook at the roof of the room, and swung up. Nightwing gave the leader a good punch, and knocked him out. He grabbed the leader, and used his grappling hook to reach the ceiling before anyone had time to react.

"I don't like your style," commented Batman. "You rush into things too much, don't think through."

"I was never good enough for you, old man. I follow the ideal of Batman better than you do. I'm only here for Barb anyway."

[BeastBoyWonder]

Superman just stood, watching the entire fiasco. He seemed to be in a daze. The tense dialogue between Batman and Nightwing brought his attention to where they were. He quickly tied up the eleven Society members. Nightwing and Batman returned to the ground. Batman pulled the mask off of the leader. It was nobody he recodnized. He looked at Superman.

"And what exactly do you think you were doing the whole time?"

"I know where they are. Follow me."

"Um, what do I do with these?" Robin was holding the babies.

[Barb Gordon]

"You watch them."
Batman said.
"But!"
"Just do it."
He said, and he and Superman and Nightwing headed off. Robin scowled before slouching down against the wall.
"Oh gee thanks...Robin the baby sitter...augh"

Superman didn't need any super powers to still feel the friction bouncing off Nightwing and Batman. He stopped abruptly and turned towards them.
"Look, before we do anything we need to be working as a team."
He looked pointedly at Batman, then Nightwing.
"And we can't do it if you two are gonna be at each other's throat."
Batman glared.
"It's none of your concern Superman."
Nightwing smirked.
"Yes it is Batman. Because if you two foul up just because you're too angry at each other. You'll be endangering Lois and Barbara's lives."
"He's right you know."
Nightwing said finally, his voice soft, and sounding tired.
Batman turned and stared at him, his glare softening.
"All right."
He said finally. Nightwing nodded, his face sporting a lop sided grin.
"Shall we continue now?"
He asked. Superman nodded and continued leading them on again.

"Our next order of business is finding out where the wedding will take place, and to stop it," said Nightwing.

"Right, we have to find where they are. We needn't be haste, even if the wedding takes place, that's not what we're intrested in. We have to stop the disaster from taking place, we won't recodnize the wedding anyway," countered Batman.

"I want to stop the wedding," whined Nightwing.

"Kids. None of you ever knew what you wanted. If I didn't take you kids in the first place, none of this would have happened."

"You also wouldn't have been aware of Ra's plot."

"Shut up. Superman, are you picking anything up?"

Batman scanned the area for clues. He didn't find anything.

"Superman, X-ray this place. I'm going to head back to the Batcave to monitor the Wayne Enterprises satellite system."

"What should me and Robin do?" asked Nightwing.

"Take care of the babies. Drop them off at a hospital or something. This is too dangerous; I don't want either of you involved in this."

"Yes boss."

Batman boarded the Batplane. Nightwing turned to Robin.

"I can get involved if I want to, this is as much my case as it is his. Whoa, what's that?"

Nightwing saw the leader of the group that was attacking them had a bulge in his pocket. He pulled a miniature stone from the leader.

"Superman's so bent on using his X-ray vision, he failed to see what was in front of him."

Nightwing broke of a piece of the stone, and gave it to Robin.

"Robin, after dropping of the babies give this to Batman for origin analysis. I'm heading to Stonehedge."

[Barb Gordon]

"But!"
"Just do it...."
He stopped, realizing that he sounded just like....him.
"Please."
he added. Robin sighed,
"All right, but what about Superman?"
"How do you think I'm getting to Stonehenge?"
Nightwing replied with a smirk.
"Fine. But it's not gonna be my fault if Batman wants to skin you alive later."
"Don't worry, I'll be fine. Just worry about yourself. I wouldn't wanna be in you shoes when you tell him."
He waved and took off down the corridor.
"Gee thanks."
Robin said, and he grabbed the babies, pocketed to stone in his utility belt and took off as well.

"Please, Superman."
Nightwing asked a moment later after he had caught up with Superman and explained what he wanted to do.
"How come I'm getting the feeling that you haven't told Batman about this....and that he wont be pleased."
Nightwing smiled.
"You know me too well. But what's the problem? He's not my...boss, you know. Besides, I know where they are now."
Superman finally conceeded.
"You know, one of the reasons I'm doing this is because I want to find Lois, and now. And I understand that you want to find Barbara just as much. Now, hold on."
And with that he grabbed Nightwing around his middle and took off.

NOTE: I'm doing this in segments so that if anyone posts while i'm posting, we can avoid confusion.

None of the Rogue's gallery was allowed to be present at the wedding. The only people present were Ra's Al Ghul, Barbara Gordon, Jim Gordon, Talia, a Society of Shadows relgious figurehead, and two guards.

"Do you, Barbara Gordon, agree to marry Ra's Al Ghul?"

"He can eat sh*t for all I care."

Talia rose. Ra's motioned for her to sit back down.

"Marry us anyway."

"But the girl...she hasn't consented."

"Bind us."

The priest sighed, and put the sacred mark on Ra's. Just as he was about to anoint Barbara, a Batarang hit the pigment used to symbolize a spiritual bond. Barbara thought "Batman."

"THE DETECTIVE! HE'S IN THIS ROOM!" yelled Ra's Al Ghul. "GUARDS, FIND HIM, AND SIEZE HIM! We won't have any interference this time!"

The guards searched the room, but Batman was nowhere to be found. Ra's looked at the priest, and screamed "It's the boy! He's -"

The priest knocked Ra's out, and took off his cloak, to reveal NIGHTWING. He looked at Barbara.

"Ugh, finally got lardface here out of the way. You okay?"

The guards rushed at Nightwing. He did a backflip, jumped over them, and gave a guard a solid punch. Before the other knew where he was, he was on the floor.

"I heard you loved me," Dick casually remarked to Barbara, as he took the bindings off her hands.

"Oh," she blushed. "I might have been saying that, as an excuse for them to let me go."

"Why do I doubt that?" queried Dick.

"My father does happen to be in - DAD!"

Jim Gordon had a sword at his neck. Talia had Jim hostage.

"Now, both of you kids put your hands up, and surrender. You, take off your suit."

"YOU RUINED MY WEDDING," cried Ra's Al Ghul, who had come back to conciousness. He was holding a gun.

Nightwing dove behind the altar.

"This is the last time you pesky meddlers will interfere with my plots. You will DIE! Get out from there, or I shoot the girl."

Nightwing came back out. Ra's waited a moment, and then shot Nightwing. Nightwing fell to the ground. He shot Dick Grayson again. Dick gave no cry of pain, just looked Barbara in the eyes. He winked, then died.

"Come with me." Ra's motioned to Talia, who had Jim Gordon. They left the room. Nightwing removed part of the wedding apparatus that he snuck under his suit behind the altar, and followed them like a shadow.

Nightwing crept slowly, making sure to keep a safe distance away from them, but close enough to be able to follow. He noticed Barbara wasn't giving them any trouble.
"atta girl."
He said to himself, smiling. He stole a quick glance at his watch, Batman should be arriving soon. It had taken a lot of convincing, but he had been able to persuade Superman to head back, away from Stonehenge. Superman hadn't wanted to leave, not when he knew Lois must be nearby, and in danger. But after explaining how he could handle things till they get back, and the fact that Batman would get there a lot sooner if Superman got him, before Superman reluctantly agree and took off...very fast. Nightwing came to a halt, crouching in the shadows as Ra's and the group suddenly came to a halt.

Ra's stopped at the power outlet. He plugged in the communicator, and asked for a priest.

"Nothing will stand in my way."

"What about flying?"

Nightwing leapt from the top of a statue, opened his arms to reveal a glider, and pummeled into Ra's Al Ghul. With one swift motion, he severed the manacles on Barbara. Ra's got back up, and pounced on Nightwing, sending him crashing to the floor. Talia wasted no time in lunging at Batgirl, but she deftly avoided the attack. Ra's ran towards the communicator, but a well-aimed Batarang from Nightwing shattered it. Batgirl threw a punch at Talia's chest, but she blocked it, and returned an unexpected kick to Batgirl. Talia reached for her sword, but Batgirl kicked it out of her hand. Both Talia and Batgirl ran for the weapon. Ra's began tearing into Nightwing. He delivered rapid punch after punch, and reached to rip Dick's mask off. Just as Talia was about to execute Batgirl...

I'm sorry if it seems like im picking your post to death, but if her leg was broke, she probably couldn't run for the weapon or kick it out of Talia's hand to begin with (unless she used a different foot for the kicking). Nightwing grabbed onto Ra's hand that was reaching for his mask.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you, now"
"And why is that? Don't want me to see who you are?"
Ra's sneered. Nightwing smirked, and let Ra's overtake him. Ra's reached for the mask and pulled.
"Father!"
Talia exclaimed in alarm as she saw him jerk and fall to the ground.
"I warned ya, but you wouldn't listen, would you?"
Nightwing said.
When Talia's attention was turned toward her father, Barbara saw her chance. She punched her hand down hard on Talia's wrist. Talia howled in pain, dropping the sword. Barbara quickly snatched it up.
"Hey look, that calvary has arrived!"
Nightwing said as he bound Ra's wrists together. Barbara turned to look where he had indicated...

"Nightwing, you have some explaining to do!" Batman screamed!

"Batman, Robin, Superman, nice to see you guys again," Nightwing said.

Batman ran over to Barbara, picked her up and said to Superman, "Go get Lois."

"I don't take commands from you, Batman," Superman told Batman, but nonetheless did what Batman suggested.

"Detective!" Batman and Nightwing turned to Ra's, who was being carried away by Talia into a hidden helicopter.

"Detective, this is not the end of the battle, you may have my love now, but you will not have her forever!"

With that, Ra's and Talia left, with all of their allies waiting in the helicopter and left to an unknown location. What they didn't realize is that Batman threw a tracer onto the helicopter.

"We will track them down later. Let's go catch up with Superman."

Nightwing, Robin, and Batman ran to where Superman is.

"Superman, how is she?"

"Batman, she is fine, but you are not going to believe what else I found!"

And then.........................

"They're files, files concerning every superhero and vigilante in the Western and Southern Hemisphere. According to these notes, it looks like he has a backup plan," Superman said curiously.

"One heck of a backup plan," Nightwing said in shock.

"I've dealt with this before. Nightwing, you take Barbara, Lois, and Commisioner Gordon back to Gotham. Superman, gather all of the superheroes you can find who are mentioned on those files, we'll need an army. I'll rescue Selina and the Riddler from Panama. I might be a while, I think Ra's left Bane to guard them. We'll all reconvene in a secure location, your Fortress of Solitude, Superman. We have to move quickly and strike fast. If Ra's was attempting to bring his bride to his side. He was preparing for the ultimate battle in war to save the planet. Well now we have to save humanity. Don't anyone argue with me. We don't have time and I know what I'm doing," Batman ordered in a calm and collected fashion.

For once no one said anything.

Later......

As Batman prepared to board the Batplane, Nightwing carried Barbara over to him. She needed to tell him something.

"Batman, I've had enought of this godforesaken unwanted vacation. That monster made me a part of this and I want to help you guys fight back," Barbara said willfully.

"Then we'll use your mind to our advantage. Barbara I want you to take the Batcomputer as your post. We're going to have an army of superheroes. You'll be our checkpoint, our coordinater, our oracle of light among the evil. We'll hook everyone up to signal devices and the computer has a direct link to the Fortress of Solitude,"

"I'm up to it," said Barbara as she no longer looked at her broken leg as something that would hold her back. It was merely a new path.

AND THEN...........

[Barb Gordon]

Back at the batcave....

"We made pretty good time back here, Batman check in yet?"
Dick asked. He laid his mask aside and pulled off the top half of his Nightwing costume.
"Nope, not yet, but he should be contacting us any minute though."
Dick stood over her, glancing at the screen. he moved to the side and leaned against the computer.
"Need anything? water? food? massage?"
He grinned suggestively. Barbara rolled her eyes.
"Maybe some water. Where's Tim?"
"Upstairs somewhere. Think he said something about homework. If we have to go save the world or something along those lines, might as well do homework on his down time."
Dick grew thoughtful and stopped talking, Barbara continued typing at the keys. After a moment or so she realized he was staring at her.
"What? Something wrong with my face?"
She inquired.
"Far from it I assure you."
He said immediately.
"It was nothing, I was just thinking. I'll go get you that water."
And he took off up the stairs leading to the manor. Barbar sighed and leaned back in her chair, still typing. She had to admit, he had a really nice pair of abs...

I'm gonna try to bring it back.

Barbara closed her eyes for a moment and rubbed them. She needed to blink more often or else her eyes would be all bloodshot.

The Crane whirred down a bit and almost went silent....

BEEP! The sudden noise made her jump a good six inches off her chair. "Oh, my...." She inhaled, exhaled and stared at the computer screen. The screen's normal color had gone to a bright red. Well, at least it wasn't the Blue Screen of Death.

Barbara didn't dare touch it. The Crane had never done that before. Dick came down the stairs with the water as promised. "What is that?"

"I was hoping you would know." Barbara rearranged her leg. "It went 'beep' and that," she indicated the screen, "came up."

Dick placed the water a good distance from the electronics and leaned over Barbara's shoulder. His arms went around her to reach the keyboard. He hit a few buttons randomly. "Nothing I've ever seen."

The two looked at each other for a moment. Their eyes locked and...

"Batgirl, come in." Dick glared at the speaker on the side of the machine. He had impeccable timing. Like always. Dick straightened up.

"Batman, have you found anything?" Barbara rearranged her leg so she could lean over the arm of her swivel chair.

"Not yet. Anything on your end?"

"Uh..yes. The Crane's screen changed color and has seemed to lock up."

Batman clenched his jaw for a second and scowled. Not red. Don't let it be red.

"Red."

"Damn."

Batman rarely swore over the communications channel like that. Dick's brow creased. "What's it mean, Batman?"

AND THEN.....

"It means were in trouble Nightwing," Batman said.

"How much trouble?" Barbara asked She'd had her own share of trouble over the past couple weeks. First, she'd broken her leg, then Ra's Al Ghul had tried to marry her and basically declared war on all of humanity's protectors, their superheroes, and he'd all ready abducted the Atom and Kyle Rayner, one of the Green Lanterns. They had had a few victories. Catwoman and Riddler had been succesfully rescued, Superman had experienced little trouble organizing our new army with Batman's aide, and we'd even been able to apprehend Bane, who'd been hired by Ra's to destroy the White House.

But even with these victories, trouble was still a problem.

"2 years ago, the Scarecrow invented a device that could pierce our brains on a global scale using microwaves," Batman explained, "I stopped him from using it and it's been held in Area 51 ever since, under Congressman Peterson's authority. If that screen is red and locked, then we've lost every human outside of the cave and myself. If Ra's has it, the war has taken a turn for the worst. All that is left to save the planet are the metahumans and u...."

"What happened?" Nightwing asked.

"His signal broke off," she stated as she tried to regain the satellite link.

BEEP! BEEP! The alarm sounded in.

As Nightwing and Barbara listened to the message, they couldn't believe their ears. They were worse off than they thought.

AND THEN.......

Now that Superman, Batman, and their superhero army are trying to stop Ra's from destroying them and the rest of the world, Barbara is kind of acting like Oracle from the comics as she can't fight as Batgirl with her broken leg.

The screen thing is something that Batman had programmed into the Batcomputer which Barbara is using to contact all of the superheroes. It would alert them to the fact that someone had stolen the dangerous mind control device created by the Scarecrow. The device, which was stolen by the Society of Shadows, will allow Ra's to control the mind of everyone on earth outside of the batcave. This wouldn't affect aliens like Superman but it would affect, say the Flash. Also, im assuming Batman has safeguarded his costume from it as he did the Batcave.

"We've lost all humans outside the cave... including Robin and Alfred" Barbara said softly. Dick gulped and turned nervously to the secret entrance. She turned to Dick. "Now what?"

And then...

"I gotta go." Dick put his NightWing suit back on and went to his bike.

"But-"

"They need me out there to help. The signal went out in one wave. Unless they send it out again, I'm safe. Don't leave the cave, and don't let anybody in."

Barbara bit her lip. She knew he was right, but he didn't need to treat her like a little kid. "I know." A pause. "Be careful."

NightWing looked back at her. He nodded. "I will." He hopped on his bike and sped out of the cave.

Barbara woke up several hours later. Man, had she need that. She looked around the cave. NightWing's bike and Batman's car were still absent. No communication since he'd left.

Barbara heard a crash upstairs in the manor. What was that? She thought of poor Tim and Alfred. She looked indecisively back and forth between the door and the computer. Barbara cursed silently as she grabbed her crutches and hobbled toward the door. She opened the safety lock and closed it behind her.

She slowly made her way up the stairs until she heard something else.

Someone was on the stairwell with her....

She brushed against it in the dark and both parties inhaled.

"Babs?"

"Tim? What happened?" Barbara took out her penlight and shown it right into Tim's face. He wasn't a zombie after all.

"I was on my way down to the cave when you two locked everything down. I've been stuck here for four freakin' hours. What happened?" Tim winced at the light and pushed her hand off to the side a little.

She explained the situation. "I gotta get something from my room." Before she could stop him, he'd stolen the key to the outer door and had unlocked it. He went upstairs into the house.

AND THEN...

I just gotta say that this is an awesome story. :) I can even imagine it as a Toonami special or a move or something. :p

Barbara sighted heavily and hobbled downstairs. She sat back down at the computer and glared at it. "Stupid machine"

"Machines are not living things Ms. Gordon" Barbara spun around to see Alfred, or rather Tim dragging Alfred into the cave. She gave him an odd look.

"Well, I figured that if the cave blocked the signal, then Alfred would be fine down here. Any word from Dick?" Tim asked.

"Dick is going to be late I'm afraid" A voice came from the shadows. The trio turned to see...

Robin blanched.
"Wha-what are you doing here!"
Gordon smiled fatherly.
"You don't think that after my finding out that my daughter was kidnapped, then being kidnapped myself and then seeing her almost marry a psycho....that I would just go on home for the rest of the night?"
Robin had to admit, he had a point.
"I'm really glad you're here Dad."
Barbara said. She already turned back in her chair to the console. the fact the her father was here was a lot to deal with, not to mention that his being here meant that he knew all their identities...but she had more important and pressing matters to worry about.
"So I'm assuming that you've been listening this whole time?"
Gordon nodded, frowning,
"It doesn't sound good, sweety. What does this mean about Batman?"
Barbara sighed,
"I really don't know. Dick went to go see what was going on out there...I'm worried, he hasn't reported back yet on anything."

Never was good at resisting temptation....

Barbara remembered her father had told her that Dick wouldn't be back for a while. "Where's Dick?"

"I don't know. I saw his bike leave town."

"I wouldn't worry about Master Dick, Miss Gordon. He has taken rather good care of himself over the past few years, whether we like or approve of it or not," Alfred spoke from where he sat on the side.

Barbara nodded, and then asked him, "Do you have any clue on how to unfreeze this? Obviously we know the mind control device has been used."

Commissioner Gordon reached over and began to fiddle with the keyboard. "I bet I can figure this out for you, hon. Give a few minutes with it." He took off his glasses and put them on the side.

That shocked Barbara a little. Her father was completely inept with computers. He hated "those damn overgrown calculators." That's why she kept the records and made police reports at the station and he didn't....He was also blind as a bat without his specs...unless he didn't need them now...

Something was very, very wrong.....

Barbara had an inspiration. "Alfred, I heard a crash upstairs before Tim came and got you. Let me see if you hurt your head."

Alfred seemed insulted. "Pardon me, Miss Gordon, but I assure you..." Barbara was now making gestures toward her father. Ah. Now he saw. "If you insist..." Alfred willingly gave in.

Barbara wheeled her swivel chair over toward Alfred and Tim. She dropped her penlight purposely. When Tim bent down to get it, she whispered in his ear, "Watch if his eyes dilate." Tim nodded. She shown the light in Alfred's eyes. They dilated properly.

Barbara turned around penlight in hand. "Daddy?"

"Yes, dear?" Commissioner Gordon turned and looked right into the penlight.

"His eyes didn't dilate at all," Tim murmured to Barbara.


AND THEN.....

[Barb Gordon]

Barbara nodded grimly, her mouth set in a thin line.
"We're going to have to surprise him, tie him up. Give me a few moments."
Tim nodded and straightened up. Barbara grimaced in pain,
"Oh ow, my leg is really starting to hurt."
Alfred looked at her in concern, but Barbara just winked at him.
"Daddy? I need a hand....ow ow ow..."
Gordon came over and bent to inspect her leg.
"Can you check...yeah, right under there."
She said, still grimacing. As Gordon bent closer to look, Barbara leaned over, clasped her hands together and hit her father across the back of the head. He crumpled to the floor. Tim came from behind and pinned the commisioner's arms behind him as Alfred went and got rope.
"Sorry daddy."
Barbara said regretfully, retrieving her father's glasses and putting them back on him.
"Hey Barbara..."
Tim asked suddenly as Alfred finished tying up Gordon.
"What?"
"Well, if the commisioner wasn't really uh...the commisioner, for the moment at least...do you think Dick is all right?"
Barbara paled.

AND THEN.....

[Batgirl]

Barbara hobbled over to her seat and put her head in her hands. Tim and Alfred had taken Jim to a 'secured' area so he could enjoy his stay at the Batcave. A hand on her shoulder caused Barbara to nearly jump ten feet off the ground.

"A little jumpy are we?" Barbara looked up into the smiling face of Nightwing. She smiled weakly and fiddled with her pen light.

"Dick... it's nice to- see you" She stammered timidly. Dick frowned.

"You alright?" Dick felt his body tense. Something was up...

"Yea, I just..." Barbara leaned hard on the light button, sending a bright ray straight into Dick's eyes.

"HEY!" Dick blinked, his eyes dilating normally and starting to tear. "That thing's bright! Watch where you're pointing it!"

"It is you!" Barbara sprang up and threw her arms around Dick's neck. He laughed and hugged her tightly.

"Who'd ya think it was? The Boogy Man?"

"It's a long story Dick" Barbara pulled back, careful to mind her leg. Dick gave her an odd look. "My dad is under his power Dick"

"Your dad?" Dick looked over to where footsteps where coming from and his eyes narrowed. He never cared for intruders.

"Hey Babs..." Tim appeared and let out a horrified gasp upon seeing Dick. Expecting the worse, Tim narrowed his eyes and charged. "GET AWAY FROM HER YOU- YOU- YOU!" Tim stuttered, not sure what else to say. "AHHHHHHHH!!!!"

"Uh oh" Dick muttered. He gingerly pushed Barbara out of harm's way and braced himself for the blow, a half smile on his face. Tim was always brave... and getting himself in over his head. Tim sprang and the two collided. Dick sucked in a deep breath and muttered, "Oooook.... here we go"

[Batgirl]

"Let her go! Let her go! Let her- whoa" Tim found himself hanging upside down and looking into Dick's sparkling blue eyes.

"Well, what do were have here?"

"Yea" Dick placed the boy onto his feet. Tim tackled him.

"ALRIGHT!!!"

Dick patted Tim on the head, slowly trying to pry the younger boy off at the same time.
"Yes, I know, you all love me"
He said with a big grin,
"Well,"
Tim said,
"I would have hated to have to of knocked you out if your mind had been taken over."
"Yeah, I bet."
"What are you doing back, Dick?"
Barbara asked as she sat back in the computer chair.
"I forgot a few things."
He said, going over to a weapons table. He loaded extra things in the hidden compartments of his gloves and boots.
"Just in case, since we don't know what to expect out there..."
His voice was dark and tense.
"Well, keep in contact with me all right?"
Barbara said, pulling up a window so that she could communicate with Nightwing while he was out of the Batcave.
"Sure thing Babs."
He put a hand on her shoulder and squeezed gently, giving her a smile as she glanced up.
"I might need a hand out there Tim, so be ready, k?"
He said, Tim nodded and Dick mounted his motorcycle, gave the thumbs up to them, and took off.

As Nightwing rode majestically out of Wayne Manor, he began thinking, which was a habit he picked up from the old man. Gordon was under the mind control, but was concious enough to manipulate the computer before getting caught...therefore the place where the signal was originating from knew that Nightwing, Robin, and Batgirl weren't under the influence of the signal...Suddenly, he sent a message to Batgirl over the intercom in his helmet.

"Barb...knock out Jim...NOW!"

"But...he might get hurt," protested Batgirl. She heard a thud behind her. Robin was standing over the posessed Commisioner.

"Already done. Anything else?"

"Yeah, I'm heading back. They're about to send another signal, because they know I'm out. Barb, get ready to trace the source and components of the signal."

Batgirl punched several keys, and Nightwing quickly walked back into the Batcave. The computer flashed red, and the three of them knew that other than Alfred, they were the only ones in posession of their minds, save the people controlling the signal.

"Okay, I'm getting a wavelength for the signal that they're sending," said Batgirl.

"Can you synthesize a material that will cancel that wavelength out?" asked Nightwing.

"Yeah, but it will take a couple hours. I sent the information to the synthesizer, its constructing two helmets now. In the meantime, anybody want anything to eat?"

TWO HOURS LATER.

A refreshed Robin and Nightwing donned the protective helmets. They jumped in the Batplane, and programmed the coordinates for the source of the signal.

"Barb, please maintain contact with us, we'll be fine."

Nightwing and Robin were sitting in the Batplane for about half an hour.

"I need to go to the bathroom," whined Robin.

"What are you, a little kid? You should have gone before we left."

"Ooohhhh, someone's doing lectures now. You remind me of someone else I know."

"Don't say it," he threatened menacingly.

"Ok, Ok, I'll shut up now."

The Batplane shuddered, and was knocked upside down. Robin looked out the window.

"It's Superman! He's attacking the Batplane. You know how to fly this thing?"

"Nope. You?"

"Me neither. I guess we're *****ed."

"Where did you learn that kind of language?"

"From you. Hey, did I tell you about the time when Bruce went missing, and Superman dressed up as Batman and we tried to find him...that was fun."

"Now's not the time for that. Oh God, he's trying to kill us."

Superman stopped pounding at the Batplane, and ripped out its engine with his laser eyes. The Batplane began making a dive, as if gravity suddenly noticed it was there. Suddenly, a green light encircled the Batplane, and the laser bounced harmlessly off of this mysterious sheild.

"What happened?" queried Nightwing.

"I dunno, some dude who looks like Shaft, except dressed in green."

"That's John Stewart, Earth's other Green Lantern." John placed the Batplane on the ground. Superman turned his gaze to John, and fired a laser blast at him. John instantly created a shield with his ring, and the laser blast bounced harmlessly. Superman flew towards John, but John created several protective spheres around him. Superman started pounding and breaking each one, but John continued to make them as fast.

"We gotta do something! Doesn't Superman have some kind of weakness?" cried Robin. Nightwing stared blankly for a moment, and then ran to the Batplane. He aimed one of the projectile launchers on the Batplane at Superman, and a small, green glowing object flew towards Superman. Superman held John by the throat, and began choking him. As soon as the object hit Superman, he instantly fell to the ground. Nightwing gave the object to Robin, and told him to stand in a particluar space.

"Bu...how did you do that? What is this thing?"

"I'll explain in a sec, I have to talk to John." Nightwing turned towards the Green Lantern. "You saved our lives."

"It's part of my job. What's going on?"

"A signal was sent across the entire Earth, and everyone except for Tim, Barbara, Alfred and I are posessed...its a long story, but it all stems from a plot by Ra's Al Ghul to wipe out the human population. How come you're not posessed?"

"Simple. I wasn't on Earth."

"Well, they know we're here, so we'd better get moving. What should we do about the guy in tights?"

(2 things-sorry i havent added to the story in a while, and also, my knowledge of gl is from the jl cartoon, 1 ep of the jla comic, and i couldve sworn he was in the superfriends reruns i saw, anyways, here goes)

Green Lantern answers, "I can keep Superman at bay for a while, what with my ring and the krypotonite."

Robin shouts, "That's what that is!"

Nightwing commands, "Shut up!"

GL continues, "As I was saying, I can keep Superman out of commission for a while. But we have other work to do."

Nightwing responds, "Yea, but we have no idea where Ra's is, or what to look for."

GL responds, "How about looking for Batman?"

Robin asks, "How did you know he was missing?"

GL replies, "Like the infamous Batman would let someone else fly the Batplane."

Robin chuckles, then says, "Ok seriously, where do we look for Batman?"

Nightwing talks to Oracle through his communicator, "Could you find Batman's last known coordinates?"

"Yes," Oracle responds. "And your not going to believe this, but the last place place I can trace where he was is......"


And then............

(I've been waiting for the right place to bring our villains back into play so here goes nothing.)

"He's in the invisible fortress," Oracle responded with a bewildered tone.

"But I thought we wasted that place," Robin complained.

"We did," Nightwing responded quietly.

"Then why the heck did Ra's Al Ghul go back?" Robin asked as the Batplane experienced a bout of turbulence.

Meanwhile in the invisible fortress....

Batman lay, tied up to a large metal table by thick copper cables. His utility belt was removed and his face badly bruised. He'd spent the last few weeks chasing the Demon around the globe and it had all come back to this.

"If you keep me here, they'll find me. But you know that all ready, don't you?" Batman barked at his immortal captor.

"It won't matter. We're going to rebroadcast the next signal within hours. I've studied Professor Crane's work with and without the device exstensively. At the press of a button, the metahumans will battle each other to death and all of humanity will fear itself so fiercely that they'll all commit suicide to escape. Lady Shiva has taken my daughter to a secure stronghold and when this business is done, I will retrieve my beloved from your Batcave," Ra's cryptically informed the Dark Knight.

"MASS SUICIDE!" Batman hollered,"you're sick! I'll stop you if it takes my last dying breath!"

"Sadly, detective, that statement may very well ring true."


Back in the Batcave.....

"I can't believe all of this," Barbara complained outloud, "it's just getting worse and worse." She stared blankly at the computer screen. Flash, Captain Marvel, and Steel were destroying capital cities across the globe. Also, Lexcorp's, Wayne Enterprises', and the New York Stock Exchange's computer mainframes had all been hacked into. Furthermore, Barbara worried about Dick and Tim out there trying to fight the good fight. Especially with Bruce gone, there had to be more she could do.

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

"Oh my god," Barbara cried out. There was an intruder in the cave. She turned around to see none other than the Joker standing over her and her broken leg.

Alright. In summary:


Barbara broke her leg falling down a flight of stair. Batgirl is out of commission, so (I assume from peterparker05's latest post)Batgirl responds to the name Oracle as well. This is temporary.

Al Ghul finds out that Barbara is supposedly a descendant of an evil but powerful queen and decides to kidnap her and make her his bride. To distract Batman and Superman, he kidnaps Lois and Catwoman (who tried to make a deal) as well. They are held at Al Ghul's invisible fortess

Nightwing saves Barb. Lois and Catwoman are thrown into the Lazarus pit and become babies. They are left at a hospital. I assume they are returned to normal. The fortress is basically destroyed by the Batclan and Superman.

Since Al Ghul is still on the loose, Barbara stays in the Batcave to do research as Oracle as Batman, Superman et. al. go after Al Ghul.

Dick stops in. When he goes upstairs to get her a glass of water, the Crane, Batman's supercomputer, freezes up and shows a red screen.

Batman calls in and explains that the red screen is a signal that a mind control device has been used on the entire planet. Only the people and the Batcave and himself are protected. Barb and Dick assume that they've lost Alfred. Suddenly the transmission is cut off.

They lock down the cave. Nightwing goes out to help. A few hours later, Barbara hears a crash upstairs and opens the interior security door. Tim comes flying out, saying that he got caught in between security doors and had been stuck in there for four hours. He is not a happy camper.

Barb tells him everything. He goes back upstairs before Barb and stop him. He returns with Alfred; the mind control device sent out one wave that got everybody but them. Once Alfred was protected, the control was broken. No communication with Batman or Nightwing has been established.

Commissioner Gordon enters the cave to announce Dick won't be returning for awhile. After observing some strange behavior, Barbara decides her father isn't "there". She tests her theory on Alfred, whose eyes dilated like Tim's when she shown a light in them. When Gordon looks into the light, his eyes don't dilate.

Barbara and Tim restrain Gordon. Nightwing returns and is fine. After he leaves again, he turns around and has Batgirl and Robin knock out Gordon. Batgirl synthesizes a material that will protect Nightwing and Robin from the mind controller; another wave will shortly go out.

Nightwing and Robin fly in the Batplane for awhile, then Superman attacks them; he's been affected too. John Stewart, one of Earth's two Green Laterns, is able to save them. He was off earth at the time of the first wave.

Everybody goes back to the cave. They trace Batman's signal to the invisible fortress.

Batman and Al Ghul have their standard "I'm going to cleanse the world--Not if I can help it, you sick psycho" banter.


Back at the cave, Barbara is alone; Alfred is temporarily upstairs or taking a nap (not for long...hint hint, people). She witnesses several Marvel and DC heros demolishing the cities. The major computers in the country have been hacked into.

The intruder alarm goes off....and the Joker appears.....

John Stewart enclosed the Joker in a box, using his powers as the Green Lantern. The Green Lantern, Nightwing and Robin came down to the Joker and Nightwing screamed:

"How dare you try to touch her! You....."

"Nightwing, calm down!" GL said.

"Right, right. Joker, how did you find this place, and why aren't you under the spell?"

"Didn't Batsy teach you anything? I'll never tell...."

"Oh yes you will!" Robin screamed. He then proceeded to run at the Joker, but was stopped by GL, who said, "Stop. This won't solve anything. Here's what we need to do."

And then.......

"And that is?" Barbara folded her arms across her chest, unimpressed. Talia leaned down and pressed, alt, esc, control and enter at the same time. Barbara's eyebrow went up. "Huh?"
Suddenly the screen of the computer flashed back to normal. Talia grinned. "But-"

"I could not allow father to marry you. And my Beloved is in trouble... I had no choice" Talia looked down.

"Even if it meant going against your father?"

"I do it because I love my father"

"I understand Talia... Thank you"

"There's one final thing..." Talia pulled out a bottle filled with green liquid. It opened with a hiss and Talia poured it over the woman's leg. It bubbled and sizzled. A warm sensation came over her leg. Barbara's eyes widened.

"What?" Talia threw away the crutches and pulled Barbara to her feet. To her surprize, Barbara could walk. Talia smiled.

"The healing powers of the Pit work wonders... Now, get the men and suit up. My Beloved awaits..."

He asked Nightwing, giving him a look that he should look behind him. Nightwing raised an eyebrow and glanced over his shoulder. he did a double take.

"Calm down Nightwing, everything is fine. Thanks to Talia, we know what to do, and how to get Batman, and stop Ra's."
"You're kidding, right?"
Talia shook her head.
"I would never let anything happen to my beloved. My father has him, and I know where, let me take you to him."
Nightwing looked unconvinced,
"How come this feels so much like a set-up?"
He blinked,
"Barb...where is your cast?"
"Talia healed my leg for me....we can trust her, all right?"
Nightwing sighed uneasily.
"It's not like we have much of a choice....Robin, GL and I couldn't really think of anything anyways."
He glanced at Talia,
"Well? What do you have in mind?"

Two motorcycles and the Batmobile roared down the empty streets of Gotham. Above them a green streak lit the sky. Nightwing glanced over to the Batmobile and spoke over the link.

"So we just walk in?"

"I programmed the computer so that Father will still think that every one is under his control. I was sent to bring the rest of you under control and bring Batgirl to him. If you do as I told you, and act under his command, he will know nothing until it's too late"

"And what if he shines a bright light into our eyes? Then what?" The link was silent. Dick sighed irritably. "Talia?"

"He won't... Trust me" With that the communication was closed and the Batmobile gunned ahead. The two motorcycles did the same. He had been right. They didn't had a choice.

[Barb Gordon]

Nightwing sighed to himself as he shut off the ignition to his bike. Talia and Barbara were already getting out of the Batmobile, and Robin was getting of his own bike. Green Lantern had not come along just in case things went awry, there would still be someone to try a last ditch effort rescue.
"Can you hear me all right?"
Nightwing asked over the hidden mouthpeice.
"Loud and clear....good luck."
Green Lantern said on the other end. Nightwing removed his helmet and joined the others. Talia held up a walkie talkie,
"Father, we are here. I have them."
With that the two doors opened and Talia led them inside. They entered the building, Barbara in front with her hands "bound" with rope, Nightwing and Robin next, and Talia bringing up the rear.
"Open the door servant."
Talia said loudly to Nightwing. He grabbed the handle in front of them and pushed...

Ra's smiled cruelly as the captives entered. Barbara shot him a glare full of scorn and contempt. The two guards stood still.

"Welcome Beloved"

"Kiss my-"

"Silence!" Talia gabbed her hard in the back. Dick was just barely able to surpress his grin. "You will respect your Master"

"Talia, take the captives and let us be... It's time she learns to respect me" Ra's stood and strode towards Barbara. She held her ground.

"Yes Father. Follow me slaves" Talia signaled towards the door. The trio passed into the hall and the door clicked shut. Then they began a full run. "We don't have much time"

"Why? Babs can hold him off" Robin replied casually. Talia turned to him and sucked in her breath.

"It's not Barbara I'm worried about. This place is crawling with guards. She will be the perfect distraction... until Ube gets ahold of her. By that time we must have Bruce or something horrible could happen to her"

"Well then, what are we waiting for?" Dick quipped as the three rounded the next corner. Talia slowed, then grabbed his arm.

"In here!"

As clarification, those were "clones" of Lois and Catwoman, and the baby thing was to prevent them from dying (because Batman's morals require him to save them), and also to keep them from interfering with the plot.

"Ok, ok, what now!" Dick comments.

"Here's the plan: Save beloved, save your girl, and stop my father."

"No duh!" Robin says.

Talia says,"I'll ignore that. Anyways, can you 2 think of anything to do execute my part of the plan?"

Robin jumps and says,"I've got it. Follow me. You'll catch on."

Robin proceeds to run out of the side room back towards the room Ra's and Barbara are in.

"What are you doing?!" Nightwing demands.

"Calm down buddy, this is the beginning of the end!" Robin answers calmly.

"And how is that, Boy Wonder?"

"Guess who's already in there?" Robin asked, pointing to the room holding Ra's and Barbara?"

"Who?" Talia and Nighting ask puzzled.

"Superman."

"What? How?" Talia and Nightwing scream.

And then.............

[Batgirl]

"You know, I would like to be 'saved' at some point" Bruce said flately. Talia and Nightwing turned to see Bruce tied to a table. Dick turned grinned wickedly. Bruce glowered at him.

"My, my, how the tables have turned" Dick casually storde over. Bruce glared at him.

"Shut up and untie me"

"Only if you ask nicely" Dick loved the thought of Bruce squirming.

"DICK!" Bruce roared angerily. Dick sighed loudly.

"Oh fine. Be that way..." Dick went to work. Talia looked at him, them out to where Robin had disappeared. He had vanished around the corner after the latest news.

"He's coming back and is bringing Barbara with him!" Talia exclaimed. Dick stopped what he was doing and turned to see it for himself.

"RICHARD!"

"Ok, ok, I'm going back now?...See?" Dick gave a sigh of disgust and went back to work. Barbara and Tim sped into the room and slammed the door, breathing hard. Several moments later Bruce was untied. Talia gave Barbara an odd look.

"What's wrong?"

"Wrong? Oh nothing's wrong? What makes you think something's wrong?" Barbara asked quickly, her eyes wide. "We're only being persued by about- oh I don't know, about FORTY GUARDS!"

At that moment fists began to pound on the door and loud shouts came from the outside. The gruop turned and looked at each other silently.

Suddenly the knocking stopped and loud shouts came from the other side of the door. Barbara looked at the door with a perplexed look on her face.

"Open it!" Bruce thundered. Barbara nodded and the door opened. Superman, Flash and Green Latern were standing over a pile of fallen thugs. Tim smiled.

"Alright!"

i have no idea how to end this...it seems like everything is pretty much wrapped up. If we're doing Animated continuity, we can't have Barbara and Dick hook up though (although i would love to see that happen).

"Not 'alright' yet, Robin." Nightwing reached into his utility belt and whipped out his penlight light and shot it into the eyes of Superman and the Flash.

Superman's eyes dilated. "Welcome back," Batman said. Flash's eyes shut and remained so. He rubbed them.

"Good to be back. We need to find that signal generator before Ras's men wake up."

"What did you do with Al Ghul?" Batman asked as he kept a close eye on the Flash, whose hands still were covering his eyes.

"He and Ube are stuck behind some debris in the hall. We don't have much time before they clear it." Superman turned to go down the hallway.

GL stopped him silently and pointed at the Flash. Batman calmly walked over. "What are you doing?" he coldly asked him.

"Checking my eyelids for light leaks. What do you think? That hurt."

"Open them." Flash shook his head. "I said OPEN THEM." Batman put a firm choke hold on the fellow JL'er and lifted him slightly off the floor and away from him. If he was still under Al Ghul's control...

"They're open! They're open!" The Flash finally squawked. The pupils were dilated. False alarm. Batman released him. "You could say sorry," he mumbled. Batman paid him no attention.

Barbara turned to GL. "You put the material inside his suit and attached it to yourself and Superman." He nodded and pointed to the bits of it that were attached to the back of his ears.

"C'mon, he said we didn't have much time." Robin impatiently waited by the door.

Nightwing nodded. "Half of us has to keep Al Ghul from calling on the rest of his men, and the other half has to destroy the machine."

"Not just the machine. This entire facility. I don't want to worry about what other toys Al Ghul has here." Batman looked over at Superman, Barbara, and GL. "Come with me. The rest of you keep Al Ghul and his men occupied."

The group divided in half, and Nightwing managed to steal a kiss from Barbara before he lead Robin down the hall. The Flash remained for a moment. Batman stared at their departing backs before turning around.

As Batman walked past GL and the Flash, he hissed, "Get them out if something happens. Don't even think of coming back for me." With a nod, Flash caught up to Robin and Nightwing.

The Joker sulked in his cell. Somebody was actually crazier than he was, not to mention they were worth more of Batman's time and attention. Well, time to up that ante. He demonically grinned as he slipped out a glass cutter. He severed his bonds and cut through his transparent prison. They should really keep strait jackets around here for guests, he mused.

The Joker soaked in the Batcave for a moment before giggling and running toward the Batcomputer. This was going to be fun.....

Nightwing and Robin looked at each other and grinned. Flash looked back to make sure that the coast was clear, then a wide grin spread across his face. They were looking at the pile of rubble where Ra's and Ube were buried.

"This is going to be fun..."

The Joker laughed wildly as he began to hit buttons on the computer. Each time he did large bold letters spelling AXCESS DENIED appeared. After a while he began to kick the machine.

"Stupid computer!!!" He gave a final kick and turned to go elsewhere. Suddenly the computer started to make noises.

"Intruder alert. Intruder alert"

"Stupid piece of-" He turned to see Batman standing before him. He grinned darkly. "Why, hello there"

Batman just glared coldly. The Joker laughed. "What's the matter? Surprized to see me?"

Batman just stared. Then he raised his palm and beckoned Joker to attack. Joker ran forward, fist curled and ready to go. He swung once- twice, each time missing. Batman pushed Joker back then gave a hard upper cut. Joker staggered back. Batman's eyes narrowed and then he slammed his fist into the Joker's nose. He fell to the ground stunned. He looked up to see that Batman had disappeared. He growled.

"Go figure... what's the matter? Too afraid to fight?!" At that moment all went black for the Joker as a large tray came down on his head. Batman knelt down to make sure he would stay out. After that was assured, he smiled and took a role of duck tape out from behind him.

"Dreadful creature" A soft accented voice said from within the cowl. He chuckled softly as he added a gag. "No wonder Master Bruce dislikes him so..."

Barbara bit her lip and stared at the device. She looked between the Dark Knight and the man of Steel, then back at the device.

"What now?"

Superman and Batman were puzzled.

"Look," she said. "I can take care of this, no sweat. But once I do, we are gonna have a problem."

Batman, the detective that he is, asked"A)How did you figure this out? And B)What's the problem."

"Batman, it's simple, it is just a regular power machine. But our problem is what it's hooked up to. If the machine is turned off, we have 30 minutes to get out of here before the place explodes."

And then......

[Barb Gordon]

"So, what was with that kiss back there? You two an item or something?"
Flash asked slyly as he, Nightwing and Robin raced down the hall. Nightwing cleared his throat,
"or something..."
He said quietly. Flash grinned,
"So..."
He continued,
"Since you're not an item. Does that mean I can ask her out?"
He ducked just in time as Nightwing's fist came flying at his head. Flash laughed,
"That's what I thought. "Or something" he says....Robin, you really need to help this guy out with his girl issues."
Robin snickered.
"I do not have 'girl issues'. And shut up Robin."
Nightwing retorted sullenly. They slowed to a halt.
"Is this where Ra's and Ube are?"
Nightwing asked, Flash nodded. Cautiously the three of them slipped in and looked around for Ra's and Ube.
"Flash, Robin, keep a watch on the door, just in case Ra's has gotten hold of his men."
"Sure thing!"
Flash quipped with a salute. Nightwing ignored him.
'Where are they?'
Nightwing though as he scanned the room. He saw some fallen debris that looked like it might be holding something trapped against a wall. Carefully he approached it.
"So the Detective sends his children to do his work does he?"
He heard a cold, steady voice ask him. Nightwing turned and saw Ra's and Ube free of the debris.
"You rescued the Detective, hurt my guards, stole my wife and have...almost....ruined all my plans. Prepare to die!"
With that and a snap of his figures, Ra's sent Ube to deal with Nightwing.
Meanwhile Robin and Flash were scouting for Ra's guards.
"You're being paged."
Flash pointed out, pointing to a flashing red light on Robin's utility belt. Robin snatched up the receiver.
"Robin here, what's up?"
"It's Batman, Barbara has figured out what to do about the machine. We need you three back here."
"Bats is gonna have to wait."
Flash said, gesturing to a group of guards rounding the corner.
"Uh....we have a few guys to deal with before we can Batman--"
Robin began. He heard noises behind him and saw Nightwing and Ube advancing on each other.
"Uh oh."

All seems to be quite on the home front, so....


"What is it, Robin?" Batman snapped into his radio.

"Nightwing and Ube are about to go for each other's throats. There are guards coming from all over the place." Several grunts were heard. Batman and Barbara froze for a moment as GL and Superman looked on. "Got 'em." Robin was alright...for the moment.

"Where's Al Ghul?"

"Uh...."

"Send the Flash after him."

"Aye, sair!" came the obnoxious imitation Scottish accent.

Zip!

CRASH! "Robin?"

Barbara frowned. "They got the radio. It's broken. Until Nightwing is available, we can't contact them."

"Go help them," Batman told Superman. "I'll keep an eye on the tracers."

Superman nodded, and with a blink of an eye, he was gone.

The Green Latern looked at the schematic he had pulled from the files in the computer. The way the machine was assembled, if he pulled the right junction out of line, there was no way it would go off until they programmed it.

If he didn't yank the connection it at the right point, they'd have less than five minutes to get out...not to mention the fact that the electrical shock would kill him.

Batman and Barbara were busy working on the tracers and other solutions to their dilema. "I'm going to make sure nobody gets in, alright?"

Without waiting for a response, John Stewart strode out of the room and down the hall in the opposite direction of the battle that raged on.

[Batgirl]

Barbara worked like mad, hoping that they would be able to set and reprogram the thing before they were overwhelmed. The computer beeped and she grinned.

"I'm in!"

"Ok, set the darn thing and let's go" Bruce said impatiently. Barbara frowned and a worried look crosed her face.

"What about the buildings surrounding this area?" Bruce frowned. "What if there are some people haning around? Them what?"

"Do it. Leave the people to me" Barbara nodded and did as she was told. With in a few moments the Computer screen was blinking.

"Destruction Sequence Activiated. Te minus ten minutes to detanation" A large timer appeared. Barbara sprang to her feet.

"Alert the others and let's go"

Nightwing narrowed his eyes,
"No Flash."
He said, Flash halted just as he was about to sprint for Ra's.
"Come again?"
"He's mine."
Came the low, growl-like response. Flash shrugged,
"Sure. So would you like me to take care of Baldy then?"
Nightwing smirked,
"Be my guest."
Flash grinned, already racing for the big and bald one.
"So you think you can take me, young Detective?"
Ra's asked, almost mockingly. Nightwing took slow, measured steps towards the ancient man. He shook his head,
"I don't think I can, I know it."
"Well, you certainly do have a sense of humor. Something that I don't see much in your mentor."
"Yeah, he needs to work on that."
Nightwing lunged as he spoke, getting in a quick jab to Ra's mid section before backflipping away.
"You're quick, I'll give you that. But you have no idea what you have gotten yourself into!"
Came Ra's cold response. Before Nightwing knew what had happened, he was pinned to the ground. He should have remembered, even though Ra's was old, the Lazarus Pit gave him incredible strength.
"Let's see who you really are."
Ra's hissed, grabbing at his mask. Nightwing smirked,
"Not tonight I'm afraid."
He said, right as he electrocuted Ra's. Nightwing somersaulted out of reach and got up.
"A new feature I've added, like it?"
"A bit weak."
Nightwing shrugged at the response,
"Well, that happens when you're as old as you are."
"Stop playing games, boy. Or are you afraid to fight?"
Nightwing glared,
"I'm certainly not afraid of you."
He and Ra's both rushed forward, each exchanging a punch. Ra's was able to get him in a neck hold, trying to suffocate the masked vigilante. Nightwing relaxed his body, crouched as much as he could and jabbed his elbow into the other man's rib cage as hard as he could. He heard bones crack and Ra's loosened his hold enough for Nightwing to be able to break free and yank him down to the floor.

GL heard the destruction warning go off in his area. Hmmm, so much for a complicated solution. 10 minutes? He had thought it was 30...

He began to double back down the cramped hallways, but a glow from a room a bit further down caught his eye. To look or not to look, that is the question.

John Stewart gave up the debate and darted down the hall to investigate. He stopped dead in his tracks out side the door.

I'm personally not sure. I was thinking maybe each person on this story could tie off a loose end. If the majority says yes, so will I.

If you get a go, peterparker05, then you have to remember and tie up everything including:

* Gordon in Batcave
* Joker in the Batcave
* the clones of Catwoman and Lois Lane (what happens when they grow up? how do the women feel about being "mothers"? how long do they live?)
* what is floating in the glass jars
* somebody retrieves GL
* how everybody gets out of the building
* the aftereffects, if any, on the world and their perception of the heroes

Just a reminder; we've left a lot of them so far.

Nightwing looked down and at the unconscious old man. Robin walked over, careful to keep his distance, cautiously looking at him from behind his 'brother'.

"I suppose we have to make sure that when this thing goes up he's safe"

"Unfortunately" Dick replied sourly. Although being a hero had it's perks, there were times where a moral obligation was a pain. At that moment Barbara and Bruce came racing through the door- Superman following in tow.

"This place is gonna blow in five minutes! Let's go!" Bruce shouted. A moment later a computer voice announced it over the speaker. Superman picked up Ra's. And soon the heros were watching from a safe distance away. Ra's was bound, as was his faithful servant, most of his men had escaped. Barbara and Dick were talking and Tim was looking around casually.

"This should be interesting... an invisble building blowing up" Flash remarked, a huge grin plastered across his face. His twinkling eyes were looked on Barbara. Tim snickered.

"I wouldn't. Nightwing is rather touchy when it comes to her- but if you want to- be my guest" Flash grinned even wider and strode up to the two. Tim shook his head, barely able to contain a laugh. Suddenly something caught his attention. He turned to Superman. "Where's the Green Latern?"

"What?!" Clark looked around, his eyes wide. At that moment, a huge fireball lit the sky. Clark stared at it in horror. "JON!!!!!"

Ok, let's wrap it up. I have a thing about story strings I start- or revive in the case of Returning the favor- I don't like to finish. I don't feel comfortable doing that yet... So, any body who's up for closure go for it. As stated before (thanks GS) here's what needs to be done:
* Gordon in Batcave- no longer under control

* Joker in the Batcave- unconscoius and wrapped up in duck tape (heehee, I loved GA issue 1, can you tell?)

Barb Gordon: Barbara's eyes widened in horror "Oh my god, where's Talia?!" She exclaimed. Everyone else's eyes grew wide in sudden realization.
"Thanks for your concern..." A voice said from behind them. They all turned and saw Batman appear carrying an unconscious Talia in his arms. "But we're fine. She went looking for her father, but I got her out just in time."

Batman laid her gently beside her father, but not before tying up her hands. At that moment the ground rumbled and suddenly, seemingly out of thing air, a giant explosion occured as the invisible bulding blew up.

Barb Gordon: "Cool." murmered Flash, shading his eyes as he watched the explosions. Explosions were pretty common to Barbara and Nightwing, but this was something a bit different, considering the building that was exploding was invisble, save the fact that it was now covered in flames.

"You all right?" Nightwing said after a while. Barbara nodded. Nightwing smiled, continuing to hold her hand in his. In all the commotion they had reached for each other's hands as they dashed out of the building...and he wasn't about to remind her that they were still holding hands, because then she would probably let go.

Batgirl: Suddenly something caught Robin's attention. He turned to Superman. "Where's the Green Latern?"

"What?!" Clark looked around, his eyes wide. At that moment, a huge fireball lit the sky. Clark stared at it in horror. "JON!!!!!"

The Guitar Slayer: Batman scowled. Damn, why hadn't he noticed GL's absence?

The building's main section was gone. All the vehicles had been taken with it; it was no issue, since Superman and Flash could get them home. An annex, who innards were partially exposed, was still intact...but not for long. The Flash sniffed the air. "Gas...guys we got a gas leak. This place is gonna go." The Flash went to grab Barbara (and Nightwing too) to rush to safety. He never got to them.

A silencer went off. Its bullet whizzed past Superman and Robin before lodging firmly in Flash's leg. He yelped in agony and went down. Barbara and Nightwing caught him right before he hit the dirt. A second, different gun went off. Superman stepped in front of it...as the gunman intended.

The Man of Steel doubled over and gasped. Kryptonite headed bullet...! With a flick of his wrist, Robin chucked a Batarang at the bullets' source. He nailed three gunmen, the third about to fire at Batman.

"I got 'em." Robin's pride disappeared as he stared at the fallen heroes. "Flash, any chance?"

"Sorry, kid." Wally looked up at the boy.

Nightwing spoke up. "We need to turn off that gas pipe in less than 7 minutes or we're all dead." The gas would reach to the raging fire and then...

"Where's Batman?" Barbara looked around.

Robin had sickening realization. Like Kirk realizing Spock had gone to restore warp power... "Oh, God, Bruce..." his mind whispered.

The Boy Wonder turned toward his allies. His voice had an underlying steel now. "We gotta get the Flash out of here. One of you stay with me. We have to get the bullet out of Superman before it kills him."

Nightwing flicked open his boot knife. "That was too eager, man," the Flash observed in his irritating tone.

"Remember who has the knife, buddy." That shut the Flash's yap. Superman was unconscious as the Nightwing and Robin went to work on him. Barbara began to help the limping Flash away from the sight as fast as they could hobble.

T-minus 5 minutes
Batman's cape trailed behind him as he entered the building's jagged opening. The gas smell was getting stronger. He took one last deep breath and held it. He ran down the hallway.

"JOHN!" he bellowed.

"In here." Batman walked into the room. Before he could say a word, the Green Latern held up a hand. "I can't leave them."

"What--" Batman was puzzled for a moment. Then he looked behind GL.

Babies. There were babies behind him. Identical ones. "Clones..." So Ra's had had practice.

"Can you identify the DNA sample I was able to call up?" John pointed to the screen. Bruce's brain hit the panic button immediately.

With one glance, Batman's heart rate went down significantly. It wasn't his DNA. "Ra's knows he won't get a willing heir from me. He's cloning himself. And insuring his lineage, no matter how many mistakes he might make later." There had to at 5 of the little things. They were fully developed people...it would be murder to leave them.

"I ran a check through the library before you blew it up. They are now full term. It'll take two minutes to 'deliver them.' You find the gas leak and seal it. It'll buy us enough time to get every one of them out."

Batman nodded. He picked up his radio. Nobody was answering. He left a message on it. He then went toward the source of the leak.

T-minus 4:15

"Done?"
"Yeah."
"Wake up, Kal."

Superman opened his eyes. He felt much better. "Kryptonite?"

"Yup."

"Let's go. Where are--?"

"Batman went back for GL, Barb and the Flash are limping away."

"Let's pick them up. I'm good to go." Superman jumped to his feet. Hey, what's that flashing red light on the radio?"

"Message from Batman." Nightwing picked up the radio and pressed the button to play it.

GL and batman managed to deliver the babies.

"John, I have nothing to carry them with."

"I'm on it."

A ray of green energy surrounded the babies, and then batman and the green lantern. The Green Lantern flew Batman out of the premises.

Batgirl was carrying a limping Flash. Suddenly, an explosion knocked a piece of invisible machinery onto their heads. Barbara was crushed under the piece, but the Flash was able to run out in time. In a flash, the Flash grabbed an electrical cord and spun his arms to create a magnet. The piece of machinery instantly flew off of Barbara. She was relatively unhurt, but unconcious.

Superman flew in carrying Nightwing.

"Superman, Batgirl needs medical attention fast, she suffered a pretty bad hit."

"I'm on it. Take care of yourselves."

Superman flew Barbara away, seeking a hospital.

"Sh*t man, we're together in action again. This is so freakin fun!" exclaimed the Flash.

"Except we're mature now."

"We are?"

"Yeah."

"My bad. Hey, my metabolism's pretty fast, so my wound's gonna heal soon, and then i can jet us out of here. Until then, it REALLY hurts to use my leg."

"O.K., lets get out of here as fast as possible."

Nightwing picked up the Flash, and headed towards the door. A shadowy figure blocked them.

"Going somewhere?" queried a vengeful Ra's Al Ghul.

"Yeah, actually we were," replied the Flash.

"If you moved your FAT ASS out of the way, mug!" yelled Nightwing. Dick and Wally laughed.

Ra's released a snake from his pouch. It slithered towards Dick, but Wally spun his body and moved his arms, creating a mesmerizing shape. The snake transfixed its eyes on the Flash, and Dick hit it with a Batarang.

"I don't have antidote like Batman," said Nightwing.

"Hey Nightwing..." started Flash.

"Yeah?"

"Can I hit on your girl?"

"She's not my girl, and no."

Ra's was not in the mood for dialogue. His only goal was to kill Nightwing, who foiled his most elaborate plan ever...

Nightwing picked up the limp snake and chucked it as far as he could.
"She's going to be all right?"
He asked Flash,
"huh, oh, Barbara? yeah, I think she'll be fine. And Supes will be able to find a hospital quick enough."
Nightwing nodded.
"So, there's no chance of me hitting on her?"
"no"
"But if she's not your girl, then what does it matter?"
Nightwing glared, which made Flash burst into laughter.
"Ahem"
Came another voice. They turned back towards Ra's.
"What do you want old man?"
Flash asked hotly.
"You I don't care about. But he"
He said, narrowing his eyes at Nightwing,
"Have some unfinished business to attend to."
Nightwing glared back. Flash shrugged,
"You going to do it?"
He asked Nightwing,
"Absolutely."
Flash rolled his eyes,
"Fine fine, be my guest. But, uh, right now? as if things were tight enough as it is....."
he trailed off, seeing that Nightwing and Ra's were already preparing to go at each other. He took a few steps back to give them room.

"We only have a couple minutes, so hurry up," said the Flash.

"I won't take that long," said Ra's as he lunged towards Nightwing. Nightwing dodged the blow, and hit Ra's Al Ghul, knocking him to the ground. A dull thud emanated from the region that he fell on. Ra's felt an invisible pipe. He picked it up, and flung the pipe into Nightwing's chest before he could blink. Nightwing crashed to the floor, stunned by the severity of the blow that was inflicted upon him. Ra's moved towards him, but Nightwing fired a restraining device that wrapped around Ra's, making him unable to move his legs. He tripped and fell to the ground as well. He started to flail, and then he realized he couldn't get out of his bindings.

Ra's ripped off the amulet dangling on the necklace that was on his neck. He broke it open, and swollowed the contents. Before their very eyes, Ra's transformed into a horrible monster. His face resembled that of a snake, complete with flicking toungue and venomous fangs. His body turned green, and wings sprouted out of his back. The size of his muscles grew twelve times, and his entire body enlarged. Claws creeped out of his hands and feet. The bindings around his legs easily broke.

"YOU MADE ME USE THE POTION!! FOR THIS, YOU WILL DIE!!" screamed an enraged Ra's.

Note: If we want to keep this animated continuity, like it seems to be for the most part, we should remember to restore Ra's Al Ghul to his original state for Batman Beyond (this is assuming it is before Return of the Joker, but after Justice League has started, which is what most of the posts seem to present as the timeframe)...the antidote could possibly be in the other part of the amulet. He should escape.

"Well, since we have about fifteen seconds left, we should get out of here. I guess we'll catch you later, um, Big Guy," the Flash calmly stated. There was nothing but a faint scar on the Flash's leg. Before the monster could bat an eyelid, he scooped up Nightwing and ran out the door.

The invisible building exploded.

"I guess that takes care of that mug," said the Flash.

"Yeah, he was getting pretty creepy near the end. Everyone safe?"

"It seems like it. All we have to do is regroup with the others."

The green monster broke out of the rubble, opened its wings, and headed straight for Nightwing. The Flash picked up Nightwing, and started running. Within the next second, the Flash would have easily outrun the monster, but Ra's extended his tongue and grabbed them both. The Flash continued to run, but simply dug a ditch in the ground.

Nightwing electrified his glove, and hit the monster's tongue. Ra's immediatly withdrew it. The Flash hit the monster, and then began to run circles around it. The monster's attention was focused on the Flash, and it gave Nightwing a chance to plan an attack.

Nightwing flung an electrified Nightarang at the monster. The monster attempted to block it with its claws, but it sunk deep into its skin. Ra's let out a yelp of pain.

"Flash, get out of the way!"

Nightwing flung an explosive Batarang that bruce lent him at the monster. Not knowing the special property of the Batarang, it flicked its tongue at it to catch it. The Batarang exploded, leaving Ra's weakened. The Flash was mesmerized by the explosion. Ra's noticed this, and gave him a solid slash across the chest. The Flash, in searing pain, fell down. Ra's flew towards Nightwing, and bit into his leg.

"Uh-oh, that can't be good," he said.

Nightwing flipped over the monster. Ra's turned around, only to get punched in the face. It barely fazed him. Ra's grabbed Nightwing, and bit him again, this time in the arm.

"I want you to have a nice...slow...painful...yes, very painful...DEATH. Death comes to all mortals, and thanks to the Detective, you both recieve a death, and recieve it early," blabbered an insane Ra's Al Ghul.

"You're wacko," said Nightwing, as he punched Ra's hard across the face. Ra's was starting to fall to the ground, when Nightwing punched Ra's in the back with his hand. Unknown to Ra's, that punch delivered a small tracer into the hide of his skin.

"Ah, back to normal!" the Flash said happily as he got up. Nightwing fell over, the venom starting to take effect.

"Well, looks like we gotta get you outta here," said the Flash.

"batcave," Nightwing mumbled out before fainting.

The monster began to fly towards Nightwing. The Flash picked Dick up, and ran at top speed towards Gotham City. The monster couldn't keep track of where Flash went.

"Wait a minute, where's the batcave?"

Just then, the batmobile pulled up next to the Flash.

"Need a lift?" asked Batgirl.

"Dick needs help, and FAST! He's poisioned, get him to the batcave."

Without another word, Batgirl threw Nightwing in the car and drove to the Batcave. The Flash didn't follow.

Nightwing regained conciousness. He saw Bruce, Barbara, Alfred, Tim, and Wally standing over him.

"Oh my god you're okay!" cried Barbara.

"Its good to see you're feeling better, Master Dick," said Alfred.

"Haha...he said 'Master Dick'," laughed Wally.

"Nice to see you again," said Tim.

"The Flash told us what happened. You acted admirably, Dick. You very worthy of being your own superhero. You demonstrated use of both your brain, and your physical strength. There is not much more I can teach you." said Batman. There was a gleam of pride in his eyes.

"Um...thanks, I guess. THE TRACER!"

"Tracer?" everyone asked.

"Yeah, I put a tracer on Ra's Al Ghul. We need to catch him, otherwise this whole mess could start again."

Ra's Al Ghul drank the other half of the amulet. He returned to human form, with a few more scratches than he had before. He was also naked.

OT: To get this story near its end, I'm going to try to dispose of Ra's al Ghul (Batman Beyond fans should pick up on where I've sent him to). Don't foget we still have the Joker somewhere in the Batcave. I'm still laughing about the scene where Alfred took out the Joker.

In the Batmobile en route to the invisible fortress ruins....

"Are you sure we can handle this creep by ourselves, Batman?" Batgirl asked nervously from her passenger side chair. After all that the Demon's Head had put her through, she had reasons to be apprehensive.

"We can handle him," Batman said curtly, "Besides Superman, Green Lantern, and the Flash are rescuing the superheroes Ra's kidnapped, Robin is taking the Selina Kyle, Lois Lane, and Ra's al Ghul clones to Dr. Leslie Thompkins, and Nightwing has his hands full trying to take your father home."

Bagirl squirmed in her chair at the reminder of what had happened to her father. It had been wonderful. For the first time in years, she had been completely honest with him. He knew she was Batgirl and there were no more secrets. However, apparently his recovery from Ra's al Ghul's brain control had wiped out his memory of the last 2 weeks. "What's Dr. Thompkins going to do with the babies?" Batgirl asked while trying to change the subject.

"She's going to work with the Wayne Foundation to find them adoptive parents," Batman responded, "get ready to apprehend him. We're almost there."

Meanwhile, outside the invisible fortress ruins..............

Ra's al Ghul stood in front of the invisible ruins. As they had begun to lay as waste, their true form had been revealed. Kryptonian architecture and technology were impressive as ever, even in their crispy state. Draping a cloth around his waist was the least he could do to hold his dignity in front of this ruined structural masterpiece. However, at this odd moment, a large bohemian creature leapt from a nearby building and onto the ground in front of him. Its red eyes gleemed like magma and his skin had a yellow color that could make the greatest of Olympians sick to their stomach.

Ra's al Ghul, ruler of the Society of Shadows, stood before Etrigan, corrupted demon of the blood.

"I delivered to thee, Queen of the Dark
And though acted with a whimsy and lark.
You wasted a chance to be so great
And now it is your destiny to fade.
On this day, punish you I must
Fore you have betrayed sacred bonds, trust.
The Devil himself has given me power
While your punishment shall be the bud of its flower.
So at this time, I shall send you away
To give you a chance another day.
Now you live in present's disgrace
But you shall awake in future's face.
To pay your debt, your vicous fine
You will return at the Apocolypse of '09," Etrigan bellowed out with the full force of his otherworldly voice. Smoke seeped from under his finger nails and consumed Ra's al Ghul in all of its power. Fore, as Ra's al Ghul had failed to make Barbara Gordon, the heir to the Throne of Darkness, his bride, he must now be punished. However, Etrigan has given him a fighting chance. Instead of destroying the Immortal One, he has sent him into the future, into the year 2009. Ra's al Ghul may never return to the present, but he will return in what will become know as the Apocolypse of '09.

The Flash laid back, reading a porn magazine. He looked around him, and saw the last surviving species of many alien races. He had raced to the Fortress of Soltitude hours ago, waiting for the other heroes to arive. Suddenly, a Batarang flew towards the magazine, and shredded it into two neat pieces.

"We have kids coming...you're a bad influence," said Nightwing. The Flash laughed. All of the heroes who assisted stopping Ra's Al Ghul entered the room. This was Nightwing's first chance to see Batman in a while, and he had a few questions.

"The babies...?" asked Nightwing.

"Leslie had them sent to Europe for adoption. As you know, the personalities of people are based partially on genetics and partially on the environment they were raised in. Twenty years from now, the clones will look similar to the originals, but will be their own people. The clones of Ra's Al Ghul were all sent to the same home, and will grow up being treated like quintuplets."

"The Joker..."

"In Arkham, where he belongs."

"And Ra's..."

"Dissapeared. As we were nearing the location of the tracer, it dissapeared on our scanner. All that was left was an aura of smoke."

"That's impossible. He dissapeared without a trace!? If he found the tracer, he could have left it somewhere...its VERY difficult to destroy; it would be much easier to just mislead us. Did you get a sample of the smoke?"

"Yes, I analyzed its composition on the Batcomputer, but it didn't return anything. I recodnized the stench, though."

Batman gave Nightwing a look, and Nightwing knew that he didn't want to say any more about the subject.

I liked your entry except for the fact that Flash was smoking a joint. I just don't see him doing it. I know you have artistice liscense or whatever, but I don't think it was really necesarry.

EDIT: There! I liked the scene with Nightwing stopping the Flash from doing something bad before Robin comes in, and this is more plausible for a flirtyboy like Flash.

all patched up again, i think. I also added more clarity as to why the Flash was there before the others, and set up Nightwing asking the questions of Batman so we have a reason to know what's going on.

OT: I don't know whether this will satisfy all of those who have been following this story string through it's long tenure, but here it is. My attempt to end our little saga. I've reread every single entry and this is what I've come up with. Enjoy.

In the Batcave........

Robin sat in front of the Batcomputer. The chair was too large for him and he seemed dwarfed as he used the hi-tech machinery to channel surf the different newstations.

"This is Summer Gleason reporting from the base of the newly discovered wreckage of a building most did not know to exist. Four days ago, a mysterious explosion appeared to take place in thin air, but a ravaged building was revealed. Det. Renee Montoya of the GCPD had this to say...."

"So that's why I had to call Mr. Lucious Fox and tell him to dispatch Wayne Enterprises cleanup crews," Alfred remarked as he dusted off the Batcycle.

"Yep. In fact, I think that building was made in outerspace. At least I think that's what Superman said," Robin piped in.

"This is Angela Chen reporting from the Lexcorp pavillion in Metropolis where Superman, the Flash, the Atom, and the Green Lanterns, John Stewart & Kyle Rayner, are holding a press conference. Many feel this is to reassure the public after last week's mental invasion by the crime cartel known as the Society of Shadows. Superman is now approaching the podium......"

"We did it Al. We saved the world. I got to hang out with the big guys and we beat a bunch of the bad guys. I even got a couple of souveniers," Robin smirked.

"Ah yes..souveniers. I saw that in your bedroom. I must insist that you return the Flash's magazine to him," Alfred reminded.

"You're not gonna tell Bruce are you?" Robin whined. Alfred merely looked towards the Batcomputer with his own smirk.

"This is Jack Ryder reporting from GCPD headquarters. A spokesman for the police stated that Arkham Asylum would use the money made by the Riddler's brief stint as a toy maker to pay for the damage Edward Nigma did to LexCorp to avoid a high class lawsuit. In other news, sources say that the hitman known as Bane is still at large and dangerous......"

"Ahh dang. Now I'm depressed again. Bane's still out there. That guy really gives me the creeps," Robin complained.

"As he does us all Master Tim," Alfred said.

"Hey ya know what would really make me feel better. If you told me how you pretended to be Batman and took out the Joker again," Robin piped up.

"This would make the seventh time, Master Tim," Alfred complained.

Atop of GCPD headquarters........

Batman and Commisioner James Gordon stood atop one of the most recognized buildings in all of Gotham City and while there, they stood beside its greatest symbol. The light eminating from the Batsignal lit up the whole roof and then some. It was at nights like this that everything seemed to be coming to an end yet there was always unfinished business.

"I can't believe I've lost days worth of memories all because of one of the Scarecrow's devices. And to think, he wasn't even involved in this little scheme," Commisioner Gordon remarked.

"I know the feeling. Like you've lost part of your life," Batman grimly retorted.

"You never told me what exactly happened to the Joker. How he got in you hideout in the first place," Commisioner Gordon reminded.

"Ra's Al Ghul knows my other identity and used the mind control device to tell the Joker. The knowledge seems to have left him. He seems to be back to normal, if you can even use that term to describe the Joker," Batman explained.

"Then why do you sound like he has the most powerful weapon in the universe in that screwed up head of his," Commisioner Gordon retorted.

In a sacred temple in Persia......

"Dr. Strange, you shall continue to bioscan the temple's catacombs for his lifesigns. We won't give up on him yet," Lady Shiva ordered. She, Dr. Hugo Strange, and Talia sat at a large stone table in middle of a grand sacrificial hall. Even though the temple was thousands of years old, it still had its majestic perks. Some even believed it had been patroned by King Arthur during search for the Holy Grail.

"And when we find him we shall have revenge upon the Dark Knight. The one who did this to us," Dr. Strange laughed.

"Exactly. And Talia we're going to need you to....." Lady Shiva began untill she was swiftly interrupted.

"We will do no such thing. My father has vanished and his so-called queen has left for good. Leave my beloved alone. Leave me alone. Leave my FATHER alone! I have had enough of you all," Talia screamed.

On the roof of an abandoned warehouse in Gotham City.......

It felt good for her to be back in her old costume. She hadn't been able to wear it in so long. Barbara felt strong. She felt empowered. She felt like Batgirl.

Nightwing didn't mind seeing her wearing skintight costume again either. That enerjetic spunk she had about her came out in spades when she was Batgirl. To put it frankly, he thought it made her look sexy. No, wait, she deserved better than sexy. After all that she had been through, she looked gorgeously beautiful.

"It's nice to be back on patrol again," she remarked.

"You never realize how much you miss untill it's gone," Nightwing said and then realized what he said. What he had reminded her of, how much they had missed each other while he was gone.

With the old memories brought up, there was an uneasy silence. A silence that hurt all too much.

"So do you really love me?" Nightwing asked, breaking the tension.

"I refuse to answ... Hey! Is that who I think it is down there," Batgirl said while staring at the alley below.

"Bane," Nightwing said as he squinted his eyes.

"Let's get him," Batgirl whispered as she began to run for the edge of the roof. However, she hadn't walked in so long that she didn't quite notice loose brick in front of her. As she tripped and began to fall on the roof's surface, she thought she was going to have to relive the events of the past few weeks all over again.

Then Nightwing swooped down and grabbed her in his arms, stopping her fall. He then pulled her closer.

"Maybe you need some time off before we go after him," Nightwing teased.

"No thanks. I've had enough of unwanted vacations," she said.

Then they looked to each other's eyes and knew it to be true. Their lips embraced in an eternal, passionate kiss on a cool Gotham night.

Wow, it's all over. That was a blast and a half. Nice "souveniers" for Robin :D, great conversation between Bats and Gordon, the Talia scene is excellent (finally, she is free), and I think you pleased a lot of Nightwing-Batgirl fans with that last scene.
