View Full Version : Well, I'll be gone for a week too....

I'll be gone for a week starting this Saturday (June 9) and ending the next. It's only a week...but watch me miss something on CN! With my luck they'll run "Hobby Horse Laughs" or "Africa Squeaks", maybe even "Mexican Boarders.". I'm scheduled to recieve the result of a trade (thanks, Happyheathen!) on Saturday, so it looks like I'll have to wait a week to see it. It's not that bad though. Out of one weeklong volunteer job (a nature center) and into a weeklong semi-volunteer job (helping with my Boy scout troop's summer camp). 90+ degree weather, scorpions in the tent and the smell of Mexican Juniper and caliche dust....here I come! I love it. really.

BYE MATTHEW! have some fun, it's nice of you to volunteer to help a nature center.

90+ degree weather
I wouldn't mind some more 60s-70s weather here, I'm sick of the cold, but it's going to be in the 80s by Monday, HOORAY!

scorpions in the tent and the smell of Mexican Juniper and caliche dust
I'd die in that, really.

Well, my description was of course exaggerated a little (except the heat, last year it reached 105 one day.) It's actually fun, really. I like the Texas outdoors, acquired taste, perhaps.Except when it's like last year here in Fort Wort.

Jack, did you say you're sick of the...COLD?!? Boy, the grass is always greener on the other weather pattern, lemme tell you. Let's give your city 90 straight days without rain in hot weather, an overpopulation of skunks and dozens of grass fires, top that all off with a majority of those 90 days being around 100 degrees, with lake and river levels plunging way below normal and the possibility of water rationing on the horizon, and I'll take the cold. deal? Actually, that was the story last year. And in all my life I have never smelled anything like that drought...it's an indescribable smell that only those few months here had. A friend of mine on the school football team (I was the water boy, we all had it rough with that weather) called it "skunk haze", and I think that's a pretty acurate description. It's sweat, dead grass, skunk, and fire. It's never smelled that way around here before or since. Jack, can I switch weather patterns with you?

Oh, Happyheathen, maybe we Texans IS a little different, but what about...umm...CALIFORNIANS? You guys were part of Mexico once too ya know. Common origin...and just remember which state is bigger, has a president from it (like it or not), and supplies oil and beef to millions? heheheh...Say, this is soundin' like war of the states around here!
Gotlucky64: Nah, you don't wanna take my place. All I do is just edit messages and move them around, and I don't need to do that very often. However, maybe if you asked Brian or someone to let you moderate for a week, I don't mind. That's beyond my control and business, to tell you the truth, but I wouldn't mind.

Actually matthew I would love to have that happen. You know why? Because in my school we can'nt go on message boards because they have "smut" if I tell my teacher that I am one of the people who works there, he'll let me in.And editting messages? That sounds like fun!
I WANNA BE A BIG SHOT!
So please can I be moderator?

Yeah, we just have that yearly dead fish smell here (complete with dead fish, don't walk barefoot on the beach...) and constant rain when my sister and her three kids were up here, stranding them inside (thank you CN for keeping them somewhat busy), but that will all soon change, hopefully. I generally like where I live, nice people, pretty surroundings, mediochre weather.

I can't stand extremely hot weather either, so sorry Matthew, you're still stuck in Texas with my uncle Chuck...

And you can have my OK about Gotlucky being a default moderator.

I'm not particularly proud of the last CA president (RR, for those who forget easily), but I'd really like to exclude the LBJ's and Bushies from the list of possibles...

Uh, if WE was to be a separate nation (movies, TV, produce, tourism, silicon products, etc.), we'd be the 6th largest economy in the friggin' WORLD - who's bigger? Louder, please?

And your air quality - you do know that TX rates as the most polluted state in the US? - no joke - watch your health - the DFW metro area is ground zero for air pollution (it and L.A. are about a tie)

buena suerta

There are plenty of opinions on that subject. ;)
My take is that the two traditional parties offered weak candidates and Jesse was extremely effective in reaching people who weren't happy with politicians in general.

Meanwhile we all sit and watch to see whether gotlucky64 will getlucky...

I'm willing to share ideas about the site and to contribute some avatars from time to time but I'd be inclined to let you administer the site. This summer looks like it's going to be extremely busy with lots of commitments at home and work so I wouldn't be a very reliable partner right now...
