I guess this is to build up heat for the Royal Rumble. And Perhaps Mania. I hope its at least entertaining because Shaq is an entertaining athlete.

Of course part of me thinks this is retalition for TNA doing the whole BaseBrawl business (and getting lots of publicity for that.)

That's the best news story I've ever read.

That's definately one of the funniest things I've heard in a while.

http://www.wwe.com/content/media/touts/splash/images/2032318Now that's cool. I'll look forward to the footage (looks like one of those "hardcore" plastic chairs too :p ). That will make this more interesting. Is this supposed to building towards something particular at the Rumble?

Of course part of me thinks this is retalition for TNA doing the whole BaseBrawl business (and getting lots of publicity for that.)While the most recent example, athletes from other sports getting involved in wrestling is not the least bit unique. Both WWE and WCW have done it many times before. I'd say Lawrence Taylor vs. Bam Bam Bigelow at WrestleMania XI is probably the most notable. I'd hardly call this a response. And if it is, Shaq tops just about any current pro athlete you could get including whoever that was from the White Sox and the Demon back at his other job.

Dave Meltzer with the realistic update about this whole Shaq/Carlito business.

--WWE got Shaquille O'Neal to do an angle with Carlito yesterday. After the Miami Heat's loss to the Phoenix Suns at the American Airlines Arena (where Rumble is coming from), Carlito (who lives in Miami) started yelling at Jason Williams and O'Neal hit him with a chair. Carlito vs. Shaq would be a multimillion dollar angle for both Mania, and Carlito's career, but it's not happening. The Heat have a road game on Sunday, so Shaq can't follow up at the Rumble. They are also on the road playing a game at the same time as Mania.

Too bad. This would've been great TV and probably better than whatever celebrity crap that the WWE will do.

I wonder if the WWE thought about if Shaq would show up at the Rumble or Mania. If not then this is poor timing on the WWE's part.

Unless this was to build up Carlito as a big-time heel.

EDIT: Video now up:

it was basically one of those "Superstar at a social function" pieces till Shaq showed up. Pretty funny actually.

Well the video is up now and I must say I am significantly less than impressed. I don't know if it was the "video" format, but it was a lot cooler when I was just told about it rather than shown it.

Shaq's chairshot looked more like a chair-tap, with Carlito selling it majorly. WTF is the point of this if they can't continue the storyline, unless they drag it out to Summerslam that is. No way in hell Shaq does a PPV that isn't one of the big 4.

The story was also on Sportscenter. One of the anchors called wrestling as real as the monsters under his bed. I know wrestling is fake, but what happened was quite entertaining.

Shaq's gonna win the Rumble.

The meida onslaught has begun. Sportscenter aired the clip as part of their top 10 (worst?) Plays of the week. The anchor Scott Van Pelt said Shaq is on the road to Wrestlemania. I'll give him points for that and not making a lame joke about it.

I think I like that better than the regular video.Ditto, as one of the people hiding that they never took Shaq Diesel back despite not really listening to it, I loved this. :p I say Shaq "rocked" Carlito, "doc."

Don't give them any ideas.....

if this was wcw, then that probably WOULD happen .....

wonder what the motivation behind doing this is, i mean if he's not going to show up anymore on the program, i have to agree this is to get publicity

Sirlemming, that is most certainly a Shaqtastic YTMND.

I have a weird feeling this will lead to Carlito-Shaq at WrestleMania 22.

Edit: Nevermind, I just read that part about Shaq's schedule. Oh well, I can dream, can't I?
