Will fans of the animated DC shows like me ever get to see Superman TAS released on DVD like Batman TAS is going to be later this year? or does this whole world revolve around the bat?

The Batman/Superman Movie: World's Finest will supposedly determine whether or not more STAS DVDs will be released. Last Son of Krypton (VHS released in 1997) is supposedly the next release, if WF does good.

I hope we see more flyboy...er...Superman, too. I think that Superman would benefit from the DVD format becuase most of the episodes had these grant scale type feel.

Here is a crazy thought: if we get more Batman on DVD and then more Superman on DVD, maybe we will get more Batman Beyond on DVD!

a grant scale type fee?

I can only hope.
Now, if any of Bruce Timm's work needs commentary tracks, it's Superman. Sandwiched between the runaway popularity of Batman: The Animated Series and the WB-friendly Batman Beyond, Superman came off as the ignored middle child. I'd love to hear the thought processes that went into redesigning Superman's world from practically scratch.

Oops - I meant to say Grand Scale - becuase the show did have that epic feel. I'd love to see some feautettes and the like on this. This series was definatly ignored.

Well, it sure seemed that way to me! Everytime Timm does an interview it's "Batman this" or "Batman Beyond that." And, whenever he does talk about Superman, it's always about either Darkseid or Legacy.
Not only should they do the Superman DVDs, they should also do a follow-up to the Batman: Animated book. It will have to share space with Batman Beyond and Justice League, but maybe we'd get some genuine insight into their creation of Superman's [non-New Gods] supporting cast and villains.

I agree, I'd love to see a follow-up book to Batman Animated. Even if they focus on the JL, you could still cover the previous series that led up it. A few chapters on superman, episode guide, etc.... Same with batman beyond. (with a small recap of BTAS to start it off!)

Here's an interesting fact. I'm not sure if it was Dini or Timm - but one of them wanted WB to release the "Darkseid Saga" on VHS, which would include the 8 episodes featuring or relating to Darkseid. I think they were: "Tools of the Trade", "Apokolips...Now", "Little Girl Lost", "Father's Day", "and Legacy". Although it's a theme set...it sounds sorta cool....

STAS rules. I also hate the way it gets ignored, with everyone saying that BTAS was God's gift to animation fans (well, okay, we wouldn't have STAS without it and it is pretty cool, but ya get my point). Just put out Last Son of Krypton on DVD, have cool extra features like on the upcoming BTAS DVD, and I won't whine. Well, maybe just a little... :D

I owuld love to have LAST SON OF KRYPTON on DVD. I'd be happy with that - and I'm hoping that WORLD'S FINEST will lead into that DVD. With WF determining if we get more STAS DVDs...I wanna see more.
Besides - these DVDs give me a great chance to get rid of the VHSes I already have.

I'm not really surprised those sites ignored you. I've asked time and time again for help, sent them info, and asked for help on a previous petition and got turned down at every turn, except for animationondvd.com

They've linked to some of my petitions before, but I know the webmaster really well. I'm basically his "news guy" for any Batman animated news, and he's linked to a couple of my petiions once or twice for a favor.

I signed the petition as well, back a few days ago.
I totally agree with you guys on the "middle child" references to Superman. For some reason, the series is largely ignored.
Personally, I'd rank the Superman series above BTAS and TNBA. Any episode of STAS (aside from the likes of "Superman's Pal") would outrank any number of BTAS or TNBA episodes. Obviously there are exceptions, i.e. "Oer the Edge" and "Never Fear", that would outrank some average STAS episodes, but the "average" BTAS/TNBA episodes are usually less entertaining to me than the "average" STAS eps. Of course, we're talking about two series' that are far above average in terms of quality, but STAS does have an edge on BTAS in my opinion.
It seems that the "extra effort" Dini & Timm always say they had to put into STAS paid off.
I loved the Darkseid episodes, and if we only got Last Son of Krypton and those eight episodes on DVD, I'd be pretty happy. Then again, those "average" season two eps like "The Late Mr. Kent" would be very nice as well. Season 3 had it's moments, but the new animation company they were using didn't seem up to par, and Supes looked different for some reason. I think it was the brighter blue color on the suit.
Anyway, I can't wait for the STAS, BTAS, JL and/or any other DC-WB DVDs we get.
Later,
Randy H
