Well all right, I'm intrigued to see how this plays out. I might have preferred a new television season, but four films could do as well, provided that they attain the quality that the series oftentimes reached. Besides, if these are a success, I suppose it could lead into a new season. It's nice to have Futurama's legacy extended, but I must admit some skepticism about the quality of the films. Family Guy's revival has been somewhat dissapointing to me so far, so I suppose Futurama is endangered by virtue of association. I imagine that the question hinges on whether or not they can retrieve enough of their key staff or people of equal ability to put the show into proper working order. I'm reasonably certain that they will be able to bring back the voice cast, especially since everyone who did voice work on it seems so enthusiastic about the series, but getting various directors, writers, and et cetera back after a long lapse in production will be trickier.

I wonder if these will show up on Adult Swim or (*grimace*) Comedy Central at any point. I'm not averse to buying the DVDs, but I can be an awful cheapskate when I think I can get away with it.

First, LOL on the title of this thread! :zim:

Wow, this is good news! I hope there's more Leela/Fry stuff in the new episodes. And that the producers get an actual budget to work with. And this may sound wild, but I think a CGI version of Futurama would work great on the big screen (since 2D is pretty much dead I guess unless it's on TV). Thanks for the great news!

There is a Zombie Jesus, and he is indeed sweet.

Four movies could be even greater then an entire new season.
Although a new season would be nice too.

I'll be anxiously waiting for a second source to confirm this. You know, just to make sure David X. Cohen didn't start prank calling Billy West or something.

As soon as I saw the title of this thread, I had a feeling.

Maybe now the bring back Invader Zim people can have a little more to believe in.

Technically, they will be. Put them together and their hours will equal a greater length of time than the last three seasons Fox aired.

Before this my thinking was 1 movie could be almost as cool as an entire season. I don't think it's a one to one comparison though.
Four movies may be as cool as 2 and 1/3 seasons of 13 episodes. But I'll leave it to anyone with a good thermometer to check my estimation.

Well, this is a very good thing indeed. The only question is where the shows will end up.

This is good news for me because I've been a fan of this show and still am. I also hope they have some good Lela/Fry romance in these movies, they should be great. What I am hoping for is that they end up on the big screen, they would come out slower yes but think of the advertisement I'd love it. Course if they came out on DVD I wouldn't mind it, than at least I could watch them right away. I really hope this is true.

Awesome news. Let's hope we get a new season (or series?) of Futurama on TV again too. As long as the quality is the same as the show used to be, this will be great.

This is fantastic news, and if these sell well (and they damn well better!), we should get the show back as a series, in time...

If they're 90 minutes each, then each movie would be the equivalent of 4 episodes. That's 16 episodes. That's not 3 seasons. That's not even 1 season. But it is a lot.

...yay!

I think Futurama returning to TV in series form may be unlikely. The cost makes that rather prohibative. Family Guy pulled it off cause it wasnt expensive to animate. I note that fan reaction to the later episodes of season 4 weren't very strong and on the commentary for these episodes the crew did state that by then they had to seriously cut back the budgets, which made some of the flashier stuff a big no-no.

And I dont want to see Futurama done in CGI. Groening's characters never look right in 3D.

Im glad they settled on a movie series rather then a new season, it would work better. Though I do think the series got great closure on the last episode("Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings" or something like that), they still need to tie up some loose ends

You know what I was referring to. The seasons Fox showed, not the seasons Fox aired. I think they were like 14 or 15 apiece.
