Reports have started popping up that alledgedly the Zeta Gundam 2-disc releases in fact sport a notable difference- more accurate subtitles. Apparently this is confirmed by both a new author and a new credit for a Re-Subtitle Supervisor.

Haha. So I may have a reason to look into them after all. OTOH, I should probably finish watch 0079 movies first...

/blasted backlog.

I'm not sure what the reaction to this is going to be. Personally, I'm annoyed but not that fussed. It would be nice if Bandai offered those of us who went and spent out for the boxset an exchange on the actual discs, especially as most information implied this was just them repackaging unsold boxset discs. I'm not sure what kind of message this sends to fans "Hey, show your support and we'll still screw you over later!"

C'mon now, when hasn't Bandai screwed over the Gundam license somehow?

That's a blanket statment. It's important to realise that there are various levels to a company. Whilst some of the mistakes are the fault of Bandai America, alot more blame can be placed on the head office. This one seems difficult to call. The original discs were personally authored by Sunrise, which I believe is a rarity. When they were released, fans complained about the bad translated subs and how often the dub dialogue was closer to the actual dialogue. These new versions of the disc sound like Bandai America tweaking the work of Bandai Japan.

:(

I only watch the dub but news like this is still something of a downer after buying expensive super perfect boxset and all :(

I had thought that Kamille's "Let's do it!" catchphrase was odd. A lot of the differences cited in that topic seem pretty marginal, though. Not yet convinced that its a big enough deal to want to repurchase the series or anything like that.

At the same time, while I'm not a sub purist I am bothered that technically I don't have a fully accurate translation because I preordered the show. That set was delayed time and again and we still got sub quality that Bandai felt the need to revise? No matter how you look at it, that's a shoddy job. For all the flak they were getting from fans over delays, I would rather that they'd put it off even longer to get it right.

Then again, at least they made the effort to improve it. But then again once more, believing that the Zeta release would be limited I and other comitted fans paid twice as much as needed for this and in return we've received an inferior product, even if marginally so.

So basically I'm not sure whether to be annoyed with their sloppiness, appreciative of their willingness to improve on a release, or simply indifferent about the subtitle differences.

Bleh.

They actually talk about the "Let's do it!" line in the F91 commetary. Apparently, Sunrise originally decided the line was to be translated as something closer to what you'd expect from the military. I think an example of the original translation would be "Amuro, Gundam, Launching!". When they went and did Zeta and F91, it was decided instead to translate it as "Let's do it!". So, say "Seabook, Gundam F91, Let's do it!". I'd have to rewatch the commentary for the specifics but I think they were looking for something a bit more 'kick butt' to the line.

Good thing I didn't get the box set. I saw it earlier this month for $90 with everything included. Will these 2 disk sets include the figures and all of the neat stuff in the big box set?

I don't know if they include snippets of the booklet, but they don't include the figures/sharpeners.

The sharpener figurines and the poster were kind of a good will gesture from Bandai for all the delays. They aren't included with the 2-disc DVD sets and I don't believe the 'Encylopedia' is either.
