The long blue bar. The yellow block. And those darn zigzag things whose images stay on your brain. These familiar Tetris shapes started a generation of video game fans. Now Nintendo is putting a new spin on the classic with [i]Tetris® DS, available March 20 exclusively for Nintendo DS™, which incorporates the use of Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection, Nintendo's wireless gaming service.

Hard-core and casual gamers alike became obsessed with the original. Tetris DS builds on that emotional attachment by combining the original game with new types of game play that could only be possible on Nintendo DS.

Each of the six modes of play features a theme based on a classic Nintendo game, such as Super Mario Bros.®, The Legend of Zelda® or Metroid®. The traditional Tetriminos (falling blocks) and line-clearing strategy remain the staples of the game, but the touch screen adds a new element of interactivity.

Some modes give players special Tetris puzzles to solve. Others feature head-to-head action between two players, or massive wireless battles between 10 DS users, even if only one player has a game card. Players also can log onto Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to compete in two- or four-player battles. Tetris DS even includes a point-based rating system based on players' battle results. Opponents can see one another's ratings, which indicate their skill levels.

Every gamer, whether competitive or casual, will find a way to reconnect with one of the most popular puzzle games in history.Press Release via Nintendo.com (http://press.nintendo.com/articles.jsp?id=8743)

Thanks to Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2006/01/10/wifi-enabled-tetris-ds-announced/) for informing me.

It's about freaking time that we get a Tetris online-enabled game for the DS. March 20th can't get here soon enough.

I hope they at least make it value-priced for $19.99 though. I mean it's Tetris, how expensive could it be to produce it when you can get it free online at like almost every game site?

Expect a friend code-trading topic for when the game is released.

Personally I would have preferred Puyo Pop Fever as the first Wifi enabled puzzle game :(. Not one to brag but I was unstoppable at that ;).

Hmm, themed Tetris world sounds interesting. Maybe they could add a feature to make a 3-d Tetris world like Pokemon Puzzle League did.

Bought.

No, seriously, I've already bought it. When the game comes in, I'm pretty much going to get it as soon as I see it.

I don't know... the last time they tried to update Tetris...

*has bad flashbacks to Tetrisphere*

Wait! I've got it! They need to port 4-player Pac-man to the DS!

I won't be truly happy until Nintendo makes an updated version WITH the original Game Boy music in it. They haven't used that music since then, and non-Russian-sounding songs don't sound right in Tetris.

i thought tetrisphere was fun... in limited exposures that is. didn't care much for the main game but those mini games where you had to drop or turn a certain block to make them all crash was entertaining enough

No Tetris can drive people crazy, it's just a sad world of blocks and dissapearing blocks that continue to appear and dissapear for eternity. In what reasons we do this is not known, there is no ending, all we keep doing is stacking and stacking without question.

I'm pretty sure there is a level of hell designed to be exactly like tetris

YAY! Another game to probably get my butt kicked by everbody else in ONLINE! Seriously though, I've been wanting this for a long time. I just hope it's at a lower price.

I love Tetrisphere. It could hurt your head sometimes but it was a lot of fun. The combos in that game put Tetris Attack to shame. It was cool to watch the blocks break around the ball.

I may consider getting this..I actually have never personally bought any form of Tetris. Although my dad brought home an NES Tetris once for me. I'm hoping to play against someone in another part of the world someday.

Well, Tetris was designed in the 80, and judging by the boxart, it was made as communist propaganda to cause Americans to become to addicted to meddle.
