Has Adult Swim announced or hinted at any new new anime series appearing on AS? I didn't hear them announce any new anime aquistions alongside thier comedy shows.

Gun x Sword eh? Looks like something AS would air and there's another main character who looks like Spike.
Of course when they say it's heading to cable that could mean anything from premium channels, CN, G4, AZN and now even IFC. But since Geneon has had some good play on AS lately I think they may go with AS for this one.

...anything from premium channels, CN, G4, AZN and now even IFC.IFC is airing anime?
Anyway, I don't see G4 picking up many if any more anime acquisitions, honestly. They're rapidly trying to move from geek stuff to more... mainstream geek stuff like Star Trek (or rather, they're trying to be Spike TV). I doubt they'd put much more money into keeping Anime Unleashed fresh anymore.

I could definetly see Gun x Sword airing on Adult Swim, as its story is along the lines of Bebop and Trigun, which is why most ppl dismiss it after a few eps, but if you watch the whole way through its an excellent series and has one of the best anime endings i've seen in a long time :)
Coming soon?

If G4 wanted to pick up a good, wierd 15 min show, they should have gone for Sexy Commando Gaiden Sugoiyo!! Masarusan. Now THAT is a good show.
Cromartie? It's...so...blah.
Now, COLORFUL, that was GREAT. But then they canned it. Not even on OnDemand!! It was hilarious...and so true.

Oh how I miss you, TechTV...
I thought Gungrave was a lot more "fresh" than Last Exile... Especially when comparing the really "Blah" ending in Last Exile and the "...Wow..." ending of Gungrave. That and the former's characters seemed a lot less sympathetic(or at least developed and understandable) than the latter's.
But I could see GunXSword coming due to how similar it functions to Trigun and sometimes Cowboy Bebop, although I dunno if people would be tired of those kind of shows yet. Of course, Monster would be a great addition, but that's also depending upon if people watch it, and the fact that it's STILL unlicensed. I suppose companies see it as too much of a gamble with the length.

Gungrave didn't come along until the merger. I believe it's first episodes ran when Last Exile's last episodes did.
I'll take a random stab...
Trinity Blood replaces GitS 2nd Gig
Gun X Sword replaces Champloo
BECK replaces FMA (is the subbed show)
Possibly another ADV show could replace EVA
And something completely out of nowhere comes along sometime in the year

If memory serves, AS usually tends to keep new acquisitions under wraps until Upfronts (which happen around March) or Comic-Con (around July). Of course if they make really a big acquisition they may go ahead and announce it (as they did with Evangelion). But hopefully we'll get some news on future shows in a couple months or so.
And about the sub project... I was a bit surprised to see the subs during the late night repeats of the Miyazaki films on TCM. I wonder if one of those is the secret sub project...
herbkir
01-13-2006, 12:52 PM
TCM is doing all the Miyazaki/Ghibli films that way, showing the dub version in the early runs and the subbed version in the late runs. Since the subs are running on TCM, and AS' general policy is to seek exclusives where possible, I doubt any of them are the secret AS sub project. (^_*)

Nope. The first twelve R.O.D TV and Gungrave came after the first twelve episodes of Last Exile. After R.O.D and Gungrave, they aired the last twelve Last Exile episodes, followed by the last of R.O.D and Gungrave.
As for AS and anime, I think Trinity Blood might get picked up. AS doesn't seem to like the dark, brooding stuff as much nowdays.
Even though it's old, I could see them taking a chance on Macross after Eva finishes up. One of the Burn Up series would fit their current mood.
I could see City Hunter as the subtitled anime. I hope so, as BECK sounds boring.
Maybe Hare + Guu? I've never seen it, so I don't know if it would fit.
Personaly, I don't see the anime block surviving '06.

well Champloo ends in feb, FMA in APril, GITS in May and Eva in april or may so yeah by June there not going to have any new anime. but i think they'll anounce something. don't forget Kim Manning did say there was a possiblity of them airing toonami shows uncut like Naruto. my dream though would be if William Street got the rights to Kenshin
Andrew T. Hingson

I caculated everything by the week (because I have that can of time)
Champloo ends in early March, FMA ends in late March, EVA ends in April and GitS 2nd Gig ends in early June. This is of course if they don't push things back at all.
The talk about airing uncut Toonami shows on AS pretty much said not now but maybe some day. But since they can show DBZ uncut on Toonami I say... what's the point? If they were going to air Naruto uncut on Adult Swim it wouldn't be until years from now.
It'd be nice to see Kenshin uncut but honestly we just need to let it go. CN has no interest in buying it again.
Despite their "threats" I'm sure AS will pick up at least 3 new anime series this year if not 4 or 5.

I also remember watching Fushigi Yuugi, yes it's been that long for me, and Tenchi Muyo and plenty of others every night of the week at 11 p.m. That was the time of the hour everyday for me. Eureka 7, now that Bandai's PR for it says it's going to a premiere network, is highly likely for CN now in my opinion, and it's probably a 50/50 split as to whether that means AS or Toonami. IFC is airing anime?
Anyway, I don't see G4 picking up many if any more anime acquisitions, honestly. They're rapidly trying to move from geek stuff to more... mainstream geek stuff like Star Trek (or rather, they're trying to be Spike TV). I doubt they'd put much more money into keeping Anime Unleashed fresh anymore.
Since Comcast has the rights to one of the new "Tenchi" series, "GPX", why don't they show it on Anime Unleashed as well as on its Anime Selects VOD service? It seems to me that it would make a lot of sense, as earlier "Tenchi" series picked up a lot of fans from their CN and AZN showings, and "GPX" would seem to fit the Spike TV wanna-be Barbed Wire Biscuit block.
I could definetly see Gun x Sword airing on Adult Swim, as its story is along the lines of Bebop and Trigun, which is why most ppl dismiss it after a few eps, but if you watch the whole way through its an excellent series and has one of the best anime endings i've seen in a long time :)
I guess I'd like to see it.
It starts with a "Ble" and ends with a "ach". At least that's what a lot of folks hope.
Personally, after what happened to "Yu Yu Hakasho", if I invested a hefty chunk of change in getting the rights to "Bleach", I would not allow CN to touch my investment without an air-tight contract to run the show straight through all the episodes at least once before they would yank it off the air, or move it to the wee hours of the morning, or do something else to make the audience lose interest. If CN wouldn't agree, well, they aren't the only late-night anime market.
One more thing, what ever happened to The International Channel!?
The network is still airing, it's just that it's undergone a total format change and become AZN now (and it just moved from basic to digital in my area, unfortunately). Also, while it does show anime, it's been showing the same TV shows and movies over and over the past few months.
Actually guys, with it's past record, I'd expect shows from Adult Swim On Demand to be on Adult Swim more than anything y'all are suggesting.
Scryed and a few others were on ASOD before they got aired on the network.
That means Arjuna, Argent Soma, Yukikaze, and a few others will probably be added sooner or later.
I liked "Scryed", and I would like to see the others you named come to AS as well. However, there is one ASOD alumni you didn't name that I would really like to see on AS, and that's "Jubei Chan the Ninja Girl", in fact I'd like them to pick up the rights to "Jubei 2", and the "Carried by the Wind" series that shares some similarities and creative lineage to "Jubei Chan". If AS is stubborn about not allowing "Kodacha" on AS, at the very least they could offer us a sop by airing "Jubei Chan", which has the same creator and some strong resemblence to "Kodacha".
Eureka 7, now that Bandai's PR for it says it's going to a premiere network, is highly likely for CN now in my opinion, and it's probably a 50/50 split as to whether that means AS or Toonami. Since it's not Bandai/Sunrise, but Bandai/Bones, no. It could save mecha in America, but Sunrise doesn't get anything out of it.
And I second Duke on Kodocha for primetime. It's a kids' show that happens to respect the intelligence of children, and as such makes it pretty enjoyable for all ages. Probably why CN doesn't touch it too -- they seem to think kids like pedantic stuff like Ben 10 and My Gym Partner is a Monkey, and they seem to hate stuff that isn't narrowly geared to the demographics they want.

I guess I should have said CN rather than AS, but my main point was that if CN insists on being closed-minded about not touching "Kodocha" with a 10-foot pole, the least they can do is air something similar that probably would appeal to that narrow demographic, and that they're already airing on AS VOD.
And I imagine "Sunrise" would certainly benefit, if "Eureka 7" dispelled the notion that mecha shows are ratings poison in America. (On the other hand, I suppose it is just as possible Bandai might come to the conclusion that collaborating with anybody except Sunrise is the key to succeeding in America).

However, Jubei-chan would probably the clunkiest dub they'd ever run on AS. I mean yeah, it's an excellent show otherwise, but Canadian dub studios just don't seem to get really listenable results out of 13 episodes series. Arjuna is the same way. As such, I could see why AS would pass over Jubei-chan on the basis of listenability alone.

Eh, Eureka 7 is so different from the majority of Sunrise mecha shows that it wouldn't necessarily lead to Gundam getting another shot. Eureka 7 would boost the fortunes of Eva-like mech shows like Fafner and Rahxephon more than anything Gundam-like, if it helped anything at all. It's a got a style that's really it's own, so it might not boosting anything but Bandai and Bones bottom line.

Visually and storywise? It's definitely a level over the first series, not that the first one was bad. It's just that if the first one was good, J2 is freakin' awesome. Great fights, great humor and great execution all the way around.
Dub-wise? Same voice cast. The extra years of experience they've gotten has helped, but it's still not a particularly great cast for the purpose. It's congruent atleast with one though so I guess that's a positive.

Comic-Con used to be near the end of May, but now it's been pushed back to July. It's by far the biggest convention in the nation (if not the world), so any major announcements will definately come from there or the Upfront. Now that it's here, everyone wants it off.
I think it'd be funny if people cried to replace Eva and they did...
...wait for it...
With REIGN.
If they can afford to rebuy the rights.
That's because people actually SAW IT and were like "...oh."
I couldn't get as far in my second viewing of Eva as I did my first viewing...
