Well today I`m going out to get some items for my two week old PS2. Any suggestion on what store is the best bet for me? As in good, cheap to reasonable prices and a good return policy?

I've had a lot of luck with eBay and Amazon :). Since they supply import games as well, I can get stuff before it's out here too. They pretty much always come through in the best of conditions.
I like to try Kelkoo which will find me the best mainstream prices as well.

gamestop and ebgames has cheap used games and you could buy a one year warranty for a dollar...I bought "Freedom Fighter" for just 14 dollars...

Stick to online. Most of the big retailers are pulling out the video game market. Most of the speciality stores try too hard to sell used copies.

How? I don't see any evidence of that, they promote videogames regularly in their weekly flyers.

Have you tried gaming forums? Obversiolly its not a store, but you can get games pretty cheap there.
eBay is always a good place to find games that people sell a bit cheaper than in stores, especially older games.
For actual stores, Target usually has a few marked down games at release date, and Toys R Us, I believe, has pretty good deals on used games.

Admittedly, I do most of my "New Release" shopping at Target, due to my discount. Also, Target tends to have games on sale in the first week, along with occassionally pulling something nice like X-Men Legends 2: Rise Of Apocalypse for $24 last week.
Toys R Us has their massive $10 sale right now, but it's mostly been picked over. You can potentially find a copy of Geist, and if you're incredibly lucky, Resident Evil 4 for GCN; two mature GCN games that are well worth $10. In fact, check your local TRU anyway; they're closing 72 stores, and some have already begun 10% off on all games.
Media Play- Going out of business. Everything should be 40% off now, but it might be picked over. You CAN find a good deal if you really dig (Pac-Pix, SNK VS Capcom, Sudeki for me).
Gamestop and Rhino are good for used games. Gamestop has a "Buy Two Get One" sale what seems like one weekend every month, and if you're a member, you save 10% on top. Rhino has the true classics all the way back to the NES, and some surprising stuff like an SNES 2, Neo Geo Pocket Color, etc. This is the haven for true oddities.
Best Buy has a good selection of current titles, and occassionally do good coupons. I regularly buy products there.

Heres my order (best to worst),it also really depends on the game too.
The good:
Ebay\Half\Amazon (Watch out for the scratches!)
Slackers (Good prices and such)
EBGames (Used games are occasionaly scratched but work quite well!)
The Bad:
Gamexchange (They're okay)
Gametrader (Atleast you can buy accesories there!)
Gamestop (DO NOT SHOP THERE AT ANY COST)
The Ugly:
Can't think of any at the moment. (Uuuhhh,I've gotta go)

For used games, I've had better experience with Microplay than EB. Did Microplay become purely Canadian? It's been ages since I've heard anyone mention it.
Hate to be the one to say it, but...wal-mart for new games. I actually don't buy new games much anymore unless I go to EB with trade-in credit, but wal-mart usually matches my local best buy pretty well.

I'd say Gamestop/EB (same company now), is your best bet for selection and price since they have a large section of used games as well as new.
Best Buy, Target, Toys R Us, and online stores are also good.

KB doesn't sell games anymore. These liquidation sales usually happen when stores want to eliminate the stock.

KB really isn't a major retailer like Bestbuy and such

KB Toys is a major toy retailer (second behind Toys R Us). Major toy retailers are major video game retailers.
I suspect that Toys R Us wants out of the video game business, the way they are selling 2005 games at firesale prices.

I think you have that backwards. You state that major toy retailers are also major video game retailers, but then reason that Toys R Us is trying to get out of the video game business? That makes no sense.
In reality, KB is cutting back on their games, but not eliminating them (at least not at all stores). Toys R Us' sale is just clearance of excess inventory.
Anyway, I look at game stores in tiers, in descending order of what's best to buy from:
Tier I - Small, locally-owned game stores. Unfortunately, these are a dying breed, but I support them if I can, as should every gamer.
Tier II - Game specialty store chains that don't jerk you around too much. This encompasses most Gamestop/EB clones that are not Gamestop or EB (for me, locally, this is a chain called GameCrazy).
Tier III - Major retail chains (Target, Best Buy, etc). These tend to have decent selections and good deals.
Tier IV - Gamestop/EB. Sorry, but if I'm buying a new game, I don't want it to have been been opened and handled by a thousand grubby fingers.
