This is old news, but I felt like talking about it since it was a stupid mistake on Sony's part.

Being a fan of graffiti ar****s, Sony had no right to pay people to tag up local territories of other aritsts. I've seen a couple of pictures floating around the net of the PSP graffiti on top of other great art work by professional artists. As you can see other people have now tagged all over the PSP ads making their own witty comments or gestures. I don't have a problem with people that use graffiti in rural areas which look dull and boring or have been abandoned all together.
Sony should've spread the work out more rather than keeping a bunch of characters together in noticable areas to those that are against graffiti. Most of all they should've kept them away from other people's work rather than going over a few artist's work to promote the console. It was a creative idea and would've even worked better as billboards. At least I now know from reference never to try this method of advertizment in the near future unless I play it smart.
edit: I can't say artist? Is that a bad word in the animation community?

That is the funniest article I have read so far in the year, and it's only about 5 days into the year. I especially like the poem one.

Graffiti is art?
In the right places yes
In the worng places it can be a coded message that shouts out an order to kill someone

I think you misspelled "artists" the first time...I think you switched the first "s" and the second "t", making the middle of the word a mild vulgarity...
On the PSP graffiti, it was a bad idea...hopefully Sony will get that.

Why bother those TV ads are the best gaming ads I've seen in years!
Especially the cheese one. "PSP it's like cheese you can listen to outside". Sounds like something from Bo-Bobo.

To me, the images send the message that if I get a PSP, I'll end up a stoner.
The idea itself isn't too revolutionary, as it's not all that different from posters, except of course that you can Photoshop posters and replace them when damaged. Graffiti is just begging to be defaced and sure enough, it seems real mini-terrorists weren't too happy about the commercial demon trespassing on their turf.
Man I hate Sony -_-.

I'm not sure about that.
Y'know, Genesis does what Nintendon't.

Except Bobobo can make it funny. PSP just makes it sound idiotic.

Encourages children to do the same?? So, if Sony put posters up like a well-behaved company would have, would children do that as well?

Remember Jet Grind Radio/Jet Set Radio Future/Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas? Those games (well, at least the Radio ones) had disclaimers saying "DO NOT GRAFFITI" at the beginning.

"If done properly, Graffiti is art, not a crime."
At least, that's what people say.

Graffiti is an art. Just not a conglomerate marketing tool that has to be shown in a densely populated area.

Debatable if it's just art, many taggers are just minor leagues for gang recruitments.
It's very circumstancial

It's very easy to see what's art and what's not when it comes to graffiti. If it makes you think "Hmm, that's clever/pretty/interesting" then it's art, because art is of course just a creation designed to stimulate the senses in a positive way. If it's just swearing done in 10 seconds with a red spray can, you just think "What a sad-ass".
But what of advertising graffiti? Personally I don't see it as art because it's not what the artists wanted to draw. It lacks self expression.

It would qualify as Graphic Design if it's an add
But Warhol did do Cambell Soup cans, so if something uses a commercial product it doesn't automaticly disqualify it as art. Which in a similar way could be applied to the grafitti. They took the theme of the PSP and did their own interpitation of it, it's not one identical mass produced add.
