View Full Version : Well I'm a bit Concerned over Guilty Gear:DS

Looking at the screens it's what I originaly thought how it would play out. Insted of horizontal stages they are vertical stages with platforms on them. However that's not really the main issue, it's just that they really seemed to have marred the ingame character. They made them so small that they don't even have facial features, and I mean they are tiny and this is what the GBA version did as well. I'm also wondering what they plan to do with the controls, the DS has the same number of buttons for controlling games as the PSP, but the PSP has shown it can fix the controls to compensate effectively(i.e. Darkstalkers). The vertical fighting could very well pose a problem in a sense as well. First off there is a big break between screens, many of the moves are fast paced so having a blind spot would be a severe handicap. Second the GBA guilty gear had a old D-pad and that was one of the faults when pulling off moves IIRC, it did not do the whole diagonal button command well, you also couldn't slide your thumb over easily like you can on a PS2 Controller or use an analog stick(or a arcade stick or pad if you had the option). The DS uses the same design in a D-pad as well, and being that it uses both screens for the fighting action(no HUD). Also if a move requires a down arrow and you don't execute it fast enough, you could accidentaly drop down a level on the stage. I'm thinking the stylus won't really be a part of the character move execution and could end up being an obstruction in fast paced matches.

Gigan, we get it. You doubt anything the DS can do. Despite owning one, you do not appreciate it. And you prefer your PSP.

GGDS was ALWAYS intened to be vertical, ala Sonic Rush. Honestly, quit worrying about the DS, you seem like you don't appreciate it very much. PSP has a bland port of GGXX, so have fun with that...

There's a very easy answer to this supposed concern: Don't buy it.

If it's bad themn I won't buy it
But I was looking forward to the portable guilty gear games, PSP already got GGXX in Japan and Judgement is making it to the states. I'm a fan of the series, I've got the three PS2 games. I'd like to see increased popularity in the series, so having a non-worthwhile installation may waver any attention.

Jeez you guys, all he was doing was presenting his problems with the game's described layout and wanted to spawn a discussion on how it could/couldn't work. Just because he has voiced problems with the DS and a preference for the PSP, doesn't mean everything he says about a DS game is just masked slander. Owning a DS does not revoke your rights to voice problems with it or its games. This was uncalled for.
If you guys don't have anything to say on the subject, DONT POST.
There isn't any need to make this personal, and I don't think he had an ulterior motive.
Anyhow, back on topic:
I think that, while I hate games that split the gameplay between screens (seeing as there seems to be a disorienting blind spot between the screens that troubles me at times), I'm pretty sure that GG:DS will turn out okay, if not pretty good (for a side-scrolling action brawler as opposed to a full on fighting game).
Though for some reason the character models are dissapointing. I don't see why the DS can't handle relatively detailed 2D character sprites (at LEAST on par with the PSX Guilty Gear).

I have no animosity toward Artimus... In fact, I think he's a very cool poster. I was just referring to his previous thoughts on the DS, that's all. Remember, this is a forum, so things can sometimes get heated and seem like they're out of control, when in fact they are fine.
