I believe where this man was also appear on a Simpson episode where Homer where vice-president of the proprety of Springfield :yakko:

Truly sad news. Yet another great animator I wish I could have met. :(

And yes, there was a character in the Simpsons named Ray Patterson. In the episode where Homer was put in charge of collecting Springfield's garbage, Ray Patterson was the garbage manager he replaced. Don't know if the reference was coincidental or intentional though.
