Yes, computers do suck when it comes to backwards compatability, don't they?
I'll start: Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire. The game is coming up on it's tenth birthday, and gives a fair amount of nostalgia from playing it in my childhood days.
The game had a few great vehicle levels (The Swoop Biker race, Hoth, Asteroid Field, Skyhook) but was mostly about going on-foot as Dash Rendar, with assistance from droid compadre Leebo. These levels would span from Hoth's Echo Base to the Empire's base at Gall to Coruscant's Sewers.
Tell me one other game that let's you run around in Coruscant's sewers.
There were a variety of enemies, weapons, and bosses. The bosses were awesome. You fought Boba Fett! BOBA FETT.
edit- also, flying with Rogue Squadron in the first and last levels was fun.
At least I have a laptop that can play it, and an N64 version.
So what about you?

I never managed to finish the original Tomb Raider before my computer died.
A bunch of the Lucasarts games probably dont run properly anymore, including the underrated Yoda Stories.
thank god for scummvm (http://www.scummvm.org/) though. I just played through sam and max again this week and it didn't need to config the soundcard, which gave me so much trouble when i first bought it.

the underrated Yoda Stories.
Agreed- Yoda Stories was awesome. It's a shame they don't bring THAT back.
Also, Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight. I really liked it for some reason. Maybe the lightsaber.

I would have listed Space Quest IV but there is a fan made patch that fixes most of the problems on that disc.
So instead... almost every pre-1994 Sierra title.

In January 2004 I decided to permenantly delete OS 9 from my computer. It was giving me a heap o' troubles, so I trashed it and bravely set foot into OS X-only territory.
Only problem was, I could no longer play a ton of Classic-only games. Stuff like the You Don't Know Jack series, Tomb Raider 1-4, Star Wars Ep. I Racer, Oregon Trail, Quake III (yes, there is an X version available; I'm talking about the demo), Wolfenstein 3D, Nanosaur (hey don't laugh- it's better than the really bad sequel), Bugdom, those downloadable CN games like Brak's Bean Chomper, Valkyrie, Star Trek Elite Force, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire 2nd Edition, I could go on and on.
It was the best of times (more OS stability), it was the worst of times (lots of games, gone).

Eh, Classic works just fine for me? It always has... I've been using OS X since 10.1, and have never had any problems with it. I keep it around for little freeware games from a while ago, like Beam Wars...

I keep it around for little freeware games from a while ago, like Beam Wars... Well for one thing I was tired of having to maintain two operating systems on one computer. There was nothing technically wrong with Classic itself (though a few apps didn't work in Classic); it was when I booted into OS 9 itself that I had problems. The darn thing would frequently freeze up or hang, and there were even times when I would try to boot back into OS X and the computer wouldn't recognize the startup folder.

Well you don't really need to "maintain" OS 9, though... Unless you like to boot into it? Classic just works as a layer, so I dunno why it was giving you so much trouble, not that I'm doubting you. Maybe try re-installing Classic? I kinda miss using OS 9 for some things... And like you said, some stuff just doesn't work in Classic.

Dark Forces.
My first video game. Oh how I miss it. I still remember that when I first played it the sound didn't work. It was still fairly new when I first played it, and I cheated up and down with the game. Stress needing relief? Kill Imperials! Bad grades? Kill Imperials! Just plain bored? GUESS.
I also adored DFII, as it still carried some of the spirit of the original but with extra-crunchy Jedi goodness. Jedi Outcast just didn't do that for me, feeling like it was depending too much on techology and not enough actual fun Star Wars shooting. I have liked it slightly better, but I still loathe multiplayer.
I still miss the old "Dark Forces" title, and I hate the fact that it became less Dark Forces and more Jedi Knight, although they were good, a DF series could've been better.

Dark Forces was insane! It was the first FPS I ever played. I literally stood in awe when I saw the hologram blueprints for the death star during the first level. No FPS has even come close to the greatness of Dark Forces in my opinion.

I always thought Mysteries of the Sith was more fun than the original game, especially the first level where you defend the rebel base.

Good memories! I remember the Death Star hologram too! That was just...so incredibly cool. It felt like they were doing their all in the first couple, and then it suddenly became just another Jedi game, and don't even get me started on the absolutely absurd lightsaber controls.

Ah, I remember that droid guy! Oddly enough, I've forgotten his name, but none the matter. Classic. He was so evil, yet at the same time I almost felt bad when he died. And I liked Yun. Yun equalled awesome. He died for Kyle, and suddenly it was like LucasArts forgot about him.
And, to end on a sad note, I never got to play Mysteries of the Sith.

Also, I really hope they come out with a collected DF series (including the Jedi Knights) on the Xbox 360 or something.
Lord of the Realms 2. It's a great strategy game.
Also, Doom and Dark Forces. Great early starters of the shooter genre.
As for Jedi Knight, it stills runs on my PC. :D

I actually hope they don't. 2D games seem to age fine when it comes to compilation sets, but 3D games get horribly reamed because their polygon counts are inadvertently compared to modern games. I love the Dark Forces games, but there's no way they could be as fun as when I first played them.
The droid was 8t88 btw. and the line was "touching...when someone desires information, they come to me." :D

Lego Island Two was a lot of fun, but now for some reason it won't work anymore. It probably got scratched, and that sucks. It's a really good game. Oh, and I can't get my old Goosebumps game to work either, I really wanted to play it because you can beat it in about an hour, but it never gets old.

Have you tried out Thief: Deadly Shadows? There has been alot of favorable reviews for it and it's new enough that it will run on modern systems. A way to get your Thief fix.

I agree with everyone when it comes to mentioniong the Dark Forces games, but I actually preferred the Jedi Knight games as they were the first games which really made you feel like a Jedi, something that people had wanted to be for a really long time. I also miss all the old Sierra adventure games like Police Quest and the Gabriel Knight series which is probabbly the greatest adventuer series ever made.
