This is obviously a joke, but I would be interested in a film set in the video game industry's infancy. I miss the heyday of arcades.

I miss the heyday of arcades. They're all available on compilation packs

Neo Geo will be the last one to release a collection, pretty much all the others have been ported

However I never really experianced arcades, there were never any where I live

Thanks, I have already acquired most of the memorable titles.

I don't mean just the games though, but the arcades themselves. They were like mini-Disneylands for kids - wondrous sights and sounds every which way you looked. Sure arcade games live on at places like Dave & Busters, but it's just not quite the same.

(At least the arcades around here are like that.) A far cry from my memories of the 80s and early 90s. :crying:

Also, I think it's funny to read the comments on that Pong page that's linked at the start of this thread. Everyone ranting about how stupid it is when they sound like they barely have 5 IQ points among the whole lot of them. :p

Coming this summer...
"THE BALL IS GOING THE OTHER WAY! RUN!"
Bricks fight over a giant ball and millions are affected...
"Baby, I wanna love you, but this whole Pong attack... I can't."
"NO.... I LOVVVEEEE YOUUUU! NOOO! [sob]"
PONG: THE MOVIE
Coming to a theater you... soon enough. At least before the freakin Metroid movie, if THAT ever happens.

Wow, that would rule.

Funny I had an idea for Tetris dissaster film back in the 90's. I had David Yost (Billy the Blue Ranger) pegged for the lead and he'd basically be saying stuff like "the blocks are coming!"

So the whole "gathered 'round the cabinet" doesn't hold any signifigance

The only time I experianced rows after rows of Arcade machines was usualy in places that relied on tourism and the machines were usualy out of date. There was also Sports World, where I was first introduced to Primal Rage, but other than that nothing on even a semi-regular baisis.

Bah. Not to be a spammer, but I made a comic about Pong the Movie way back on October 26th, 2003.
http://philtaco.keenspace.com/d/20031026.html

And on top of that, YEARS ago when the first Mortal Kombat movie came out, I saw a political cartoon about studios wanting to make more video game movies. They tried Pong and it put everyone to sleep.

You are my shining star.

Anyway, this seems like the compelling human drama we'd expect of a movie version of Pong to include.

You know what? I had an idea recently about a 'Story Mode' for an updated Tetris game. It's all a bunch of hooey, but entertaining hooey.

It is 1989 and you have been made Commissar of the Revolutionary Code in a la-la Soviet Union fantasy-land. You have been charged by Lenin personally to complete a secret code consisting of combinations of square blocks that will trigger world revolution. But the code has been scattered throughout the Proletariat, and you have to challenge various stereotypes throughout Mother Russia for every piece of the code before the evil Baron von Borgie beats you to it. Every level has a different Russian art style and dance tune to go with the array of colourful characters you try to outwit in split-screen multi-level fun.

Not a movie idea, specifically, but it's a story of sorts. :D

*2 Years after storyline starts*

"Yes! We completed the mission!"

*Berlin Wall breaks down*

"Aw... crap."

Tetris is the heart and soul of Mother Russia. Its downfall came when Tetris was sold off to the evil capitalist pig-dogs of Nintendo.

Now let us all dance the Babooshka!
