DreamWorks' Shrek, which is already playing in a whopping 3,661 theaters, will expand to a record 3,715 this Friday.
DreamWorks executives say the distribution strategy for the film, which has earned more than $153M domestically, is aimed at grabbing as much box-office green as possible, not just a mere mention in exhibitors' record books.
Its latest expansion is very sizable for a picture in its fourth week of wide release. The move means Shrek will surpass a record set by Paramount's "Mission: Impossible 2," which debuted last year in 3,669 theaters.
Glad to see this movie taking off. Take that, Pearl Harbor!
