What secrets do you think have been the most elusive in the history of videogames? I'm talking about a secret room, or a hidden character, or a secret code. Something like that. Which ones have been hidden so well that it has taken years after the games have been released for them to have been found?
It seems like nowadays with the internet most secrets are found within months after the games have been released. But, I remember there was one secret that wasn't found for years and years after its release. In The Legend of Zelda:Link's Awakening I accidentally found Chris Hooligan's secret room about a year or so after the game was released. I just dropped into the pyramid to fight Ganon and somehow I found myself in the hidden room. I must have been one of the first persons to find it. I had no idea how I did it and couldn't find any info on the hidden room in any magazines or strategy guides. When I started to use the internet, I still couldn't find anyone who had heard of the secret room. Finally, after...must have been 6 to 10 years after the game was first released, people finally began to figure out exactly how to find the secret room. That has to have been one of the best kept secrets in a videogame ever.
So, anyone else know of any really well kept secrets in videogames?

Banjo-Kazooie had a bunch of hidden eggs around different parts of the game. The actual codes for those eggs weren't known until long after the sequel came out. About 3-4 years.

So, anyone else know of any really well kept secrets in videogames?Hooligan's room isn't a secret, it's just a random thing, it's supposed to show up in random SNES cartridges once in a full moon or something. I think he won a nintendo contest and he got that apperance in Zelda. Now that I think about what kinda lame award is that? Getting your name mentioned in a room that rarely shos up? Way to go nintendo   . Anyhoo one of the biggest secrets was in crono trigger(The ultimate time-traveling RPG for the SNES:) ): Where in the hell was schala? I've heard there was a way to find her but I never found out :(

For me it was the Super Mario Bros.3 code where you can find an extra Magic Whistle in Level 1 Stage 3 where you land on a white panel(And you can't be the small mario) hold down and then you'll fall right behind the background and you run forward and you'll end up in an shop like area where you get the magic whistle.
It's kinda hard for me to know it but not be able to explain it by words.

I'd say the one of the biggest secrets in a Nintendo game is the Arwing in Ocarina of Time. Heck, that wasn't found until just this year! 8 years after the game was originally released!

Not much of a secret now, but the Insomniac Museum in Ratchet&Clank:Going Commando was a pretty awesome secret, even if it wasn't a "best kept" one.

That was, indeed, a very well-hidden secret.

No, there is a definite way to get to Chris Hooligan's secret room. It's actually rather easy once you know how. http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/snes/file/zelda_link_to_post_chris_houlihan.txt

That's interesting, but is a Gameshark code really a secret? I mean, Gameshark goes into the game's code and can find code that is not used in the final game. I mean, I'm not sure a Gameshark code would qualify as a secret. When I talk about secrets I'm talking about things that were put in the game by the developers with the intention that a player would eventually find them, not some leftover code that can only be accessed by hacking into the game. I mean, I really wouldn't consider the Grand Theft Auto "hot coffee" to be a secret, its just a way to hack into the game and find a mini-game that wasn't taken out of the code.
By the way, I can't get the link to the video to work.

That was, indeed, a very well-hidden secret.that is one of the coolest things i have ever seen, though i agree with master moron that i wouldn't call that a secret since it is unlocked by using a game shark. now, if you unlock it by hitting a random spot with your boomerang, or step on a switch hidden inside a hidden door, etc, then i'd consider it to be a nice, clever secret

The Ability to play as the Evil Green Ranger in the Power Rangers fighting game for Genesis
I've done it a few times, but never seen it documented, but he can even fight the Zords.

I've searched online, but I've never found anything about being able to play Sonic's version of the Marble Garden boss as Knuckles with Tails in Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Anyone else know how?

On Sonic 2 using Game Genie you can go to an unfinished level called the hidden palace zone. But, the graphics are all glitchy so its not like you'll actually get any enjoyment out of playing it. Besides, this is a way to hack into code that they forgot to delete with Game Genie. It isn't a secret.
There's also a Sonic 2 beta rom where you can play a version of Hidden Palace that actually has all the graphics. You can also play in another later deleted zone called the Wood Zone. Unfortunately, neither level was completed, and you can't actually finish the levels.

You just use the debug code to go through the walls and go to the area where you normally fight Sonic's boss. That's not very well hidden at all. As long as you know the debug code its rather obvious. Though, now that you mention it, I think it did take a while for the debug code for Sonic 3 and Knuckles to surface, at least a year I think.

The Ability to play as the Evil Green Ranger in the Power Rangers fighting game for Genesis
I've done it a few times, but never seen it documented, but he can even fight the Zords. According to GAMEFAQS.com you have to press A+B+C on the second controller at the Banpresto screen and you'll hear a noise and then the evil green ranger will be playable in versus mode.
