If a thread is on the first page of thge forum is it fair game to "bump"?

How about the second? The third? Etc.?

A thread should never be "bumped" just for the sake of bumping it. Whether a thread can be resurrected by adding actual comments and discussion to the thread depends on the individual forums at Toon Zone. Some of the forums frown upon it and instead prefer you to start a new thread, while other forums don't mind as long as you bump the thread for good reason.

You see a intreging thread. It's not locked and people were not spamming in it. It just grew less popular as time went on. You feel that you can really add something, and start up a good intelectual conversation with your fellow Toonzonians. But what's the rule for posting on threads?

as willie c. said, if you can add meaningful conversation to the thread, then go ahead and bump it. just don't bump a thread by saying "omg! this thread needs more conversation! *bump*" or something similar

*side note...
usually anything more than a year old, i wouldn't bump

If you are very uncertain, or concerned, PM a mod of the particular forum you are frequenting. Generally, as threads ask members to check the first few pages of a forum before asking a "popular question" (and avoid duplicating a recent topic of, say, that month), it seems sensible to assume that anything within that first set of forum pages is fair go.

Personally, as I recently mentioned at DCAF, I'm against responding to very old threads because topics can be so old that members who originally debated 10 months ago may have changed their opinion by now. One ends up arguing against opinions which may not be current and could misrepresent a members current ideology. If it's recent, say in a month of so, that topic will be fresh enough that all members who took part probably haven't had any change of heart.

I only say this as I've seen legitimately bumped threads (as opposed to "bump" threads) which have had opinions I'd grown out of.. and really didn't want them paraded... :P

But yes, check with the forum mods if uncertain. I personally think it's just a matter of courtesy and common sense.

Anyhow, just some ideas to chew on if you are looking for perspective on this!
