A lot of gamers are "concerned" about Nintendo Revolution's lack of third party support. Actually, I think they lack of support by established publishers such as EA, THQ, Midway etc. If that is the case, how come no one ever thought of independent publishers providing third party support for Nintendo Revolution? Would Nintendo rely on independents to make games for the Rev?

The first two for sure. I don't think Nintendo will be in any trouble.

Isn't to early to even talk about lack of 3rd party support when Revolution will be released many months from now.

The way Nintendo can gain the upper hand, is if they allow the average Joe to develop for it. Perhaps openly release the console's SDK's, yet maintaining control on what can and can't be done for it. This would definately appeal to all the techy's out there, and if they release a lot of good homebrew software for it, that'll attract regular gamers too. Perhaps some retro gamers looking to play ports of old PC games.
It probably won't happen, but for Nintendo I believe it would be a positive thing.

Perhaps, They can do a Steam-like download service for Independent games. Like, it gets approved by Nintendo, they get 10% of the cut. lol, but seriously, I think that's a good idea. Nintendo: Independent Download Service (Nintendo IDS). :p

Oh yah I forgot about the download service for a second. Nintendo could sign applications once that homebrew developers have finished their software so that it can only run after being signed. This would stop people making illegal software, like viruses and such. Once signed, it'd be distributed via download through the system. Easy! Well, I'm sure it's not as simple as that.

Nintendo would have to steal them away from Xbox Live Arcade.

A lot of Japanese independent developers may jump over to Nintendo's platform simply due to the expense of developing for the PS3.

Nintendo products must be pretty cheap and easy to develop software for. One company I can recall off the top of my head, based in France, has only made 2 games in the past, one of which never got released and the other was hardly impressive (simple puzzle game), though to be fair, the one that didn't get released looked incredible for a phone game. But they are making a detective-style game for Nintendo DS right now.
I feel Nintendo could use their good reputation, to gain an edge in the market by releasing SDK's to developers openly, then signing applications for use on their systems. It has been done before on a lesser known console. I came across a BETA copy of Tomb Raider 2 for it actually, and it will not run unless the device has been cracked to allow unsigned software (which mine is).
This console happened to have it's SDK up for download on the website free of charge. Nintendo could try the same.
