What Cartoon Network shows use computer software to color the drawings, and which ones actually use cels? I can usually tell, but I've never really examined the CCs. I'm sure the early episodes of Dexter's Lab use cels, and that some Powerpuff Girls episodes use cels. Courage the Cowardly Dog obviously uses computers, and I think Sheep in the Big City does too.

Oh I can't remember the title exactly, but it was something along the lines of "Cartoonz" or "iCartoon"....its this software package (cost $700+ I think) that lets you do 2D or 3D animation. I also heard they use 3D Studio Max to create some scenes and even some CCF characters simply by "squishing" the 3D model flat.

The two major packages are R.E.T.A.S. and SoftImage.

Dexter's new season was done in Softimage, I believe. Some Toonami/WB Toonami shows and Justice League are done in RETAS.

The characters in CCF aren't 3d, but use a technology called "FilmBox". FilmBox stores all of the characters and animations, including all of the lip flaps. Then, the team has a voice actor speak into a microphone, and FilmBox animates the lip flaps IN REAL-TIME.

If they want to stick in other animations, all they have to do is press certain keyboard keys during the recording, like, say, pressing the letter V would have Dexter shoot his arms up in the air. And etcetera.

If they wanted to, they could actually have live shows using Filmbox, as it generates the animations and voice recognition as the words are spoken and keys are pressed. Noone's done that yet, although the JBVO Weekend came close.

Wasn't the Great International Toon-In that was done several years back advertised as being live? It had the character named Moxy voiced by Bobcat Goldthwait. Was that done using this software, or something older?
