"The Father, the Son and the Holy Fonz" Episode #422.
When Peter's dad visits the Griffins, he tries to impose his religious beliefs on the family.

Maybe they'll show it when he is done. (crosses fingers this is true). This is the same speech he's been giving for 2 weeks. If the majority of American's didn't watch the first 3 times, I'm not sure what makes him think were going to watch it now.

Okay, there's a perfect example. I didn't like that Desperate Housewives jab very much, just like I didn't like The Simpsons' FG & AD jab last week. (Though I do have to say it wasn't quite as bad.)
Also hated that they used the Vaudeville guys AGAIN. They shouldn't be recurring... definitely not.
But, the rest of it is going relatively well.

Definitely a lot of irritating gags in this one... And few laugh-out-louds. I particularly liked the properly outrageous The View cutaway... Most of the rest of it was pretty disposable. Mostly misses.

That started out as a fairly strong episode. The Adventures of Aquaman and Gay Jaws were long, but still really funny and Peter's recitation of the opening narration of Quantum Leap to explain Jesus was hilarious, but the rest of it generally failed to amuse me. I didn't enjoy that Madonna gag at all. It makes sense for an episode about religious idiocy mentioning her, but they didn't go after her ridiculous Kabbalah nonsense at all, instead going for a whole array of irritating nonsense.
But it was better than the President's address, which, for one thing, didn't make fun of The View.

Wow they didn't do something mean to/leave out Meg during the credits!
I only saw the last 10 minutes of it, but I thought I was going to miss the whole thing, so it was good. The Happy Days jokes were pretty funny, and I was surprised to see Francis again.

I think that the Aquaman and ending scene bits went on for longer than they should have. The Aquaman bit would have been better if it were just fifteen seconds or so. I don't know what it is that the writers find funny about gags that last longer than needed.
The Sesame Street and Paula Abdul video bits were classic. Also, the immigrants in Lois' uterus was great. The Opposites Attract video is one of the greatest videos of all time. :)
I'm surprised they didn't leave Meg out of the end bit. Watching Peter smack her one hard in the middle act was totally unexpected.

Liked: Stewie's jab at Desperate housewives, Kathy Bates gag (Short 'n Sweet, Just the way I like 'em) Face-off, Peter thowing away mormon wives, TV Announcer gag (funny 'cause it's true), Quantum Jesus, "Picture Lindsay Lohan Naked, doing a crabwalk", "1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12" gag (Surprised they used the actual audio), "I'm dressed like a cat!".
Disliked: Jaws 5, Barbershop guy (AGAIN!!?), Stewie on helium,
Overall: Great jokes, Good plot, I give this one a Four... out of Five.

This was a fine episodes. It's nice to see Francis Griffin again although not as good as his last episode. It seemed to drag at times. The gags were not as good as they usually are, which is unfortunate. :(

One thing's for sure: Bush's approval rating will definitely be facing a drop thanks to him having his Address to the Nation around the time that people should be watching Family Guy and Desperate Housewives. :mad:

-Stewie daring people to change it for Desperate Housewives for five seconds

-Stewie getting stuck in the Sesame Street pinball machine (yes, I sang along to the pinball song)

I enjoyed this episode. Maybe a couple jokes fell flat or ran on too long (Aquaman and Madonna did, but I thought Jaws was hilarious), but overall, it was really funny.
I also liked the Happy Days references. I remember that episode where Fonzie was blind and fixed his bike. Now, as for fixing Mr. Cunningham...wow.
The Stewie subplot was okay. He didn't want a black doctor but he got one anyway (even though they didn't do anything with that).
The Aaron Neville thing made me laugh too.

We were hit with an ice storm today, so they put this permanent crawl at the bottom of the screen, even during the commercials. They even cut out the promo ads for Family Guy and American Dad so they could put in short messages telling you to "WATCH FOX NEWS FOR THE LATEST ON THE STORM!" I record those for historical purposes....they never wind up on DVDs.
Anyway, you can probably tell where I laughed the loudest at this episode by which moment I chose to screencap. Peter in the Opposites Attract video was a very close second. Add to that the whole idea of basing a church around the Fonz and you got a winner for me. %^$# my affiliate.
What was the Office Space reference? You have to tell me because I've never seen the movie.

GREAT episode! Though seriously- Bush's speech should've been during the Simpsons..that way, that half hour bloc would've actually been enjoyable and uplifting to me for the first time in like 7 years, instead of having his speech pre-empt Family Guy.
Anyway, THIS is classic Family Guy- the goods: the stuff we know Seth MacFarlane does best.
Loved the Paula Abdul bit...and PLEASE tell me that really WAS Sherman Hemsley- cause he rules :D

Yeah. It was the same guy. I'm not sure whether or not it was the same voice though. But I agree, Lois's dad gets quite a bit of airtime, so Peter's dad should as well.
Highlights of this ep, the spoof of "Sesame Street's" pinball number count, "Happy Days" theme for the ending credits. (It's been awhile since there was a tag ending in an episode though I wish they would have used the more familiar "Happy Days" theme rather than "Rock Around the Clock." Just my opinion.)
What I didn't like were that the TV show parodies at the beginning. I thought they lasted a bit long. By the way, did anybody actually switch to "Desperate Housewives" when Stewie gave us five seconds to do it? I thought about it, but I wasn't sure he'd really stop for five seconds.

A very boring episode and it felt like they were pulling too many gags from S1 and S2 out of their asses to slide in between the many pop culture references that over 80% of the auidence didn't understand. The Office Space gag was great, but we didn't need to hear over a minute conversation about being smarter than Madonna. They couldn't think of any other celeberity Peter was smarter than?

WHEN was this and AD on? Where I live there was the football game going on 7:00 and 7:30, the Simpsons at 8:00, The War At Home at 8:30 and at 9:00 there was Fox special news report with Bush giving a speech on current affairs which I stopped watching at about 9:15 (all of which I'm sure was on national tv and not just on my station).
Did FG just start late after the Bush speech and I had just missed it and AD?
EDIT: Never mind, I risked spoiling myself by reading the first few posts to see if anyone commented on it. So, ironically, by ignoring the President, I screwed myself, huh? We can't escape his grasp, even when we don't pay attention to him! Huh, I wonder if the smilie sticking its tongue out would be appropriate or not.
Anyway, sounds like a great episode from what little I spoiled myself over, will have to catch it on AS next week.

I liked the joke with the View ladies as clucking hens.
I liked the "Quantum Jesus" joke.
I really liked the appearance by Lumbergh. I had actually been talking about that at work earlier in the day (I was teasing my boss a little by saying some of the stuff he said like Lumbergh).
I absolutely loved the Sesame Street pinball gag. I remember that bit from watching the show when I was little.
And hey, nothing's funnier than the idea of Peter starting a church devoted to the Fonz.

Well, Paula Abdul's name was in the "Guest Star" credits at the end of the episode, so I'm guessing that they re-created the video (after all, Family Guy did recreate the animation style for the "Take on Me" video when they spoofed it last season).

They didn't recreate is as much as they did just cut clips from the video and do their own stuff in between or draw Chris into certain parts. I already compared the two and they clearly used original footage at certain parts.

To be honest, I hated Peter's father in "Holy Crap". But this episode put him in a whole new light when they showed him worshipping the Fonz. I liked that.
I also liked the Sesame Street pinball scene and other parts involving Stewie in the bubble ball. For some reason I thought that there'd be a Katamari reference but that was probably my dreaming. :shrug:
I give it a 4/5.

In the movie Office Space, Bill Lumbergh was one of the main upper managers. He was ALWAYS seen with coffee mug in hand, and said "great" and "thanks" when talking to people, BEFORE they agreed to ANYTHING at all. He always spoke in that droning way, and never seemed to be doing any work whatsoever.
"Peter, I'm gonna to have to go ahead and ask you to come in on Saturday, great, thanks." *sips mug*
It's to the point, that Peter (the main character) hears a rumor his girlfriend once slept with him, and he pictured Lumbergh having sex with his coffee mug still in his hand going "Move a little the left, great."
I recomend Office Space to ANYBODY with a job, it's a great movie, and there's a scene where they beat down a crappy copier. I KNOW everybody posting has wanted to do that at LEAST once.
And I would like to report that I am dead. Yes. I DIED laughing at the Aaron Neville gag. Clearly, I am not really dead, but I had a good 6 minutes of laughing fits. I mean pure, literal ROFL banging my fist laughter. It was worse than the "Cheeky Bastard" bit in the season opener. It became hard to breathe, and my throat became a bit sore, but somehow I made it out alive. So I rewound the tape and laughed some more.
It took a friend to remind me who Aaron Neville was, but if you ever hear "I don't know much, but I know I love you" that's him. And he DOES love extending his notes.
The ONE thing I was wondering about was The View knock. I unfortunitly caught a few minutes of Mad TV a couple of weeks ago, and they did a skit with The View and occasionaly a farmer would come out, and they'd all act like chickens while he was out. I know Family Guys takes longer to make, so is it pure coinsidence, or did Mad see an early draft and do something similar?
My other favorite bit was the Pinball bit. That was ALWAYS my favorite part of Sesame Street. I LOVED watching that. AND an Office Space joke? This episode rocked. Hard.

What the hell? The Vaudeville Guy? No, I thought we were clear on this, no more Vaudeville Guy. Why all the hatred for Vaudeville Guy? He's one of my favorite characters.
Anyway, the episode was awesome.
EDIT: Almost forgot:
Peter in the Paula Abdul video is the greatest cutway in all of Family Guy, next to Chris in Take on Me.

I just check this again today, and it seems Family Guy Talkbacks always get the most people on Sundays. Wonder why that is....anyway.
This episode and most episodes since "PTV" have really rewarded the fans with what they ask for and love, and really has shown that the show is still tops. A few gags that are miss, but these last 5 episodes have really been worth getting, and have great rerun value. Make me forget about "Jungle Love" really. ;)

No one on here mentioned it, and unless you're like 40 and up, you don't know who he is. I'm 27 but my parents are fans of his, so you know..by association.Actually, he's pretty popular. He did the amazing grace song on that Katrina Red Cross commercial.

I know it is, but you think with the Simpsons getting atleast a million more viewers on Sunday, that thread would have like 8 pages, and it never does, save "The Italian Bob", and that was really thanks to the Family Guy/AD Joke/shot.
I just have always found that weird. But yes, I am aware of Family Guy's popularity.

But The Simpsons is just so old now. Most of us are tired of it or have grown to dislike it. You may have noticed the Toon Zone group is a lot more critical of these shows...

People we know you all love FG to the end, that everything FG does is funny, and the simpsons is the evil one, But I don't care, At least I'm odjective enough to see the horrible in each show. I'm a very liberal fan of shows, even if it is my favorite, I'm brave enough to dislike it, The simpsons have for too long, but hey if it gives fox money and ratings(That's all that matters to the business) it will stay.
Back on topic: This is the first time I fully hated an FG episode, The worst ever I ever seen. Some jokes were funny, but as always they dragged them to the ground. The Aquaman joke, was funny as first, but as always they keep it on and on. I liked the Steroids part.
I seen almost all FG episodes, of all I seen this was the worst. For the first time I wanted to turn off my tv after the first 16 mins.
BTW, can anyone tell me the title of the song used at the end of the show?

That million extra viewers is in a demographic that doesn't post here.

Very cool episode. Missed the begining but caught most of the funny jokes, like the Sesame Street pinball(ahh memories), Quantum Jesus, Paula Abdul, and the Church of the Fonz'.
