I saw this one ad yesterday evening about Tenchi, and it said weekdays at 5. I'm like what the heck?!?
*5 minutes later*
I just checked the CN schedule, and yes, they will start Tenchi at 5 PM on weekdays, starting this coming Monday, December 31 (tomorrow).
Zoids will be moved to an early morning timeslot (6:30 AM). It will be broadcasted on weekdays.

One more puzzling thing:
From December 31 to January 16, they will show "Tenchi Muyo". From January 17 onwards, they will show "Tenchi Universe".

Yay! Ding-Dong, Zoids is dead! And Tenchi is coming back! Now all they need to do is replace Batman Beyond with Outlaw Star, and Toonami will be back to the all-anime greatness it once was. I mean, I have nothing against Batman Beyond, but to me, it just seems better when Toonami is all anime shows.

What would I do without BB?
Notice that there are no ads on CN regarding BB, which means that they are satisfied with the amount of viewers it has.
As for Zoids, well there was an ad every hour or so, which meant that nobody watched it.
Also, they have started airing a few DBZ ads here and there, which means that people are getting tired of watching the same old episodes over and over again, so attendance is down. Hopeuflly there will be new episodes ASAP.
And then, after they finish the Buu Saga, they can replay all of DBZ from the start, and can work on DBGT in the meantime. That gives them nearly a year to work on it.

Ahh geez, if they get rid of BB, those BB fans are gonna be all over you guys and the forums...
Have they aired any of the Tenchi movies yet?

Evil Dr. Reef - What they should do is put "Outlaw Star" in place of one of the DBZ episodes.
Leaping Larry Jojo - No, they haven't, even when they aired all of the "Sailor Moon", "Batman", "Superman" and "Gundam Wing" movies while the shows were on hiatus. Seeing those movies would be so very cool.

That's good to hear, I wonder if they're going to air the Tenchi movies?

If they do, they should redub the entire Saiya-jin saga and skip the whole landing on the fake Namek filler crap. They should be working on Dragonball more then GT, because without Dragonball, there is no DBZ.

Oh...goody...Tenchi...
Sorry, I'm just not a big fan of the series and would rather see Zoids stay on Toonami.
I have a question, does anyone know if Toonami will be getting any NEW programs this spring? I'm not talking about new episodes of current shows like Dragonball & Dragonball Z, but shows that have never been on the Network before. Maybe a WB series that's no longer on or perhaps a new anime series?

Two things. First, some people actually like Zoids. I know I do. At first I didn't think it was that great, but after continuing to give it a chance I found it to be highly entertaining, fun robot show.
Don't look at me like that. I like robot shows. Especially shows with giant fighting robots. The serious ones, the wacky ones. I just eat them up. I think it might have something to do with my childhood in the '80's. :)
And second, Toonami isn't about anime. It's about action 'toons. It doesn't matter if they come from North America, or Japan, or Europe, or anywhere else. As such Batman Beyond has every right to be there (and I believe the ratings say so too).
At any rate I take it you started watching Toonami around the time the line-up was DBZ, Gundam Wing, Sailor Moon and either Tenchi or Ronin Warriors (I forget which).

Well I believe the new season for Dragonball starts around February. And it looks like the final season of DBZ will start airing some time between then and September.
But new shows... Hmmm...
I believe they still have the broadcast rights to Pilot Candidate (aka Candidate for Goddess) which they announced back in June, they just haven't aired it yet.
G Gundam is currently in the process of being dubbed, so that will probably be on the block by the end of the year.
There's about a 99.99999999999999% chance of a show called Yu Yu Hakusho appearing on the block in '02.
Judging by the fact that when Zoids (actually the show that aired on Toonami and will be moving 6:30 am slot is Zoids/Zero) was airing on Toonami CN's website was advertising the original Zoids. That show is defiantly a possible to air.
I'm not sure what that status of CN's relationship with Sony (owners of shows like: Men in Black, Big Guy and Rusty, Max Steel and a bunch of others) is right now but it seemed like a few months ago they were trying to build something with them. You may or may not see some of their shows on the block next year.
Of course these are just guesstimates based on recent actions by William’s Street (the creative team behind the block). Acquisitions for 2002 haven't been announced yet, but I'll bet you good money there will be several new shows for the upcoming year.

Which will be cut and will have the ending, opening, and all its music taken away. Why did Funimation have to get the rights? :(

I'm glad they're bringing Tenchi back because I like the series (except Tenchi in Tokyo...*shudders* >.<), but I really wish they would show the movies to give some variety. They kept playing the same ones over and over again. Isn't there a second OAV and the Pretty Sammy OAV they could've shown? Or are those not dubbed yet? I really don't know a whole lot about the series except for what was on Toonami. I hear they're finally going to conclude the 1st OAV, but that will be a LONG time before that ever gets over here...Anyway, even though I liked Tenchi, I just got sick of watching it over and over again....

Yay! Tenchi's coming back! No more Zoids! I can watch Toonami all the way through again! :D :D :D :) :) :) I love Tenchi... Tenchi Muyo and Tenchi Universe that is. Tenchi in Tokyo scares me. ~shudder~
And nothing against DBZ (it's a good show) but can't they replace one of the episodes? Two episodes in a row and on the weekends is overdoing it a bit. I really think they should make Toonami 3 hours and put Batman and/or Superman in at the end along with Sailor Moon, Big O, or Outlaw Star and replace one episode of DBZ w/ S.M. Big O or O.S.
(I'm rambling off topic, aren't I? ehem... what was the topic again? oh yeah... Tenchi!)
Seeing the Tenchi movies would be awesome. I'd get to see all my fave charries again! (~glomps ryo oki plushy~)
Ah yes... that's my two bits for now... ta ta....

Actually I think most, if not all the original music for YYH will be there. Funi left most of it in for Dragonball, and I believe they left the original music in for Blue Gender, and I hear they're going to leave the original music in for all the Lupin stuff they acquired. I believe they only continued to make their own for DBZ because the Saban dub didn't have it, and "well if it wasn't there when they got there hands on it, why should they change anything?" I suspect that DBGT will also have the Funi music. But the rest of their releases should have the original music.
At least Funi's making some efforts to improve.
As for the editing, well it's going to be on network TV, what did you expect?

Actually there are already two OVA's. The first one has Kagato, the second one has Dr. Clay. They're currently working on the third OVA (and a Galaxy Police TV series). The third OVA supposedly ends Chapter One of the Tenchi OVA story.
I also believe they have no interest in showing the Pretty Sammy OVA or series. I haven't seen them myself but from what I understand there's just not enough action to justify it on Toonami.

I agree, DBZ needs to go back to what it was when it first started on Toonami, just another action show. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy it but enough is enough.
As far as Sailor Moon goes I don't think they have the right to the TV series anymore. A shame really.
And the Tenchi movies? Well they don't have the rights to them at the moment. I think Sci-Fi's rights to air them just expired but no one's picked them up yet. As far at the movies go. I believe the first one is the only one they could show, what with editing and all.

I've never watched Tenchi before, and I liked Zoids, but oh well, I guess it must be pretty good if everyone's so excited about it.
Besides, I've already seen all of Zoids.
As for reducing the prestige of DBZ, well that's impossible because it's the most watched show on their block and people are obsessed with it so much that they even watch the same episodes over on the weekends. So Toonami is profiting through DBZ and, to the best of my knowledge, they have no intention of ever removing the Dragonball series from the 5-7 block.
They said that right after they finish with DBZ, they will start on DBGT. Is DBGT as long as DBZ?

eh, I never got into Tenchi...I'd rather have Reboot...>=D
To the best of my knowledge, DNGT is not as long as DBZ....mainly cause it wasn't as popular in Japan...
I guess there is a point when people stop believeing that...oh THIS time we're fighting the ultimate evil of the universe...that last ultimate evil wasn't anywhere THIS strong...

DBZ is something like 250 episodes long, DBGT is something like 67 episodes long. And yes it wasn't that popular in Japan. I hear it's not that great until episode 23 then it gets better. Oh well Funi will either dub it in one chunk or divide it in to two "seasons".
But when will they get started dubbing DBGT? Who knows? They've got Dragon Ball to continue, DBZ to finish, they're currently working on Blue Gender & YYH, oh and they've also got the Lupin III movies to do. I'd say you won't even see DBGT on CN until late 2003 or early 2004, especially if CN doesn't air the final season of DBZ until September.
As for my comments about DBZ, don't get me wrong, I like the show. I'd just want the days back when it was just another show and CN wasn't milking it for all it's worth.

I believe they can still air Sailor Moon, but since they've aired the same 4 seasons a bazillion times, they're probably figuring out what to do with the final season. My bet is that it will eventually air it in a very bizarre manner.
What's wrong with the Tenchi movies? So the second one has implied incestuous leanings and the third one has a bit of sex, but other than those, I don't see anything particularly wrong with them.

Well, it will be good if they do. Now all they need to do is keep the script at least 90% in tact, they can't get away with stupid lines on a show like this.

Close, it's 65 episodes long, but your right, the first half of GT is pretty much crap. It will most likely be two "seasons", they gotta milk it for all its worth remember. Then they have to finsh the other eight movies (Movie 5 will be out by then) along with YYH, Blue Gender, and Lupin III. Jeez, they have alot of work to do.

All I know is that CN (and Toonami specifically) no longer have the broadcast rights to Sailor Moon outside of the movies. I don't know why. It might have something to do with the difficulty they had last year trying to get the movies, there were some unknown "differences" between Cloverway and CN that no one wants to talk about when CN was trying to get the rights to air the movies the first time around. From that CN just might not want to deal with Cloverway at the moment, so that when the broadcast rights expired for the TV series CN may have decided not to renew.
There's also the possibility that they didn't like the ratings it was getting. I don't know what the exact numbers were but I remember hearing that while the ratings were good, they just weren't what CN was expecting. If you look at the sizes of the established fanbases of Toonami shows DB/Z obviously has the largest, followed by Gundam, followed by Batman/Beyond & Superman (which also seems to have a higher average age then the targeted Toonami demographic, one of the reasons Batman and Superman will be returning to CN from 11pm - Midnight). Then comes Sailor Moon, which I think is tied with Reboot. The rest of the fanbases follow.
As for Stars, I don't think Cloverway has even finished dubbing it yet. And if you're referring to the Starlights I believe they plan on having them be women all the time. Now correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the original SM manga have the Starlights as women and it was some executive that decided to have them be men that transform into women? I'm asking because I haven't read the SM manga. It would be interesting if NA got something right that some idiotic Japanese suit messed up in the first place.
What's wrong with the Tenchi movies? So the second one has implied incestuous leanings and the third one has a bit of sex, but other than those, I don't see anything particularly wrong with them.
Well since I've only seen the first one, I don't really know. But I suspect that the implied incestuous leanings just make CN to nervous. And from what I've been told the sex scene in the other is a major plot issue and if it were cut (and a lot of people who have seen the movie can't think of a way to edit around it) it would mess up the entire plot.
Well, it will be good if they do. Now all they need to do is keep the script at least 90% in tact, they can't get away with stupid lines on a show like this. As far as I know most of the script is intact, along with the scripts from the other series Funi is working on. At least the company is trying to improve.

I know, they've got a ton to work on, and they'll be doing a bunch of it at the same time. I've got to wonder, between all this voice work and his cigarettes, how much longer can Chris Sabat's voice hold out?
But still from what I hear they are trying to improve, plus BG is supposedly not only their best dub to date voice wise (very few complaints from fans) but the script if very close to the original.

In the UK, we didn't even get to see all of Tenchi in Tokyo, I think we got about 10-15 episodes then CN stopped it.
Hopefully we'll get MSG, 08th, 0080 and 0083 next year. And as for DragonBall, I have no clue. CN UK now air they AB dub of DBZ, so it's uncertain if we'll get DB

I believe that the ratings when SM was at its peak was higher than that of your typical Gundam show (first GW run excepted).
That said, I do believe the ratings nosedived after SuperS finished its course.
As for Stars...I think the manga implied that they weren't so much men or women, but neither. They were supposed to be somewhat asexual, even though one of them had a crush on Sailor Moon.
Also, the last episode. Can you say "10 minutes of digital swimsuit?" ;)
But the Senshi casualty-o-rama in the last 6 episodes make this at least a good viewing for the curious.

AB are a European company. They have the European rights to DB/Z/GT, so they decided to start using them. There dub for the UK uses Ocean voices, FUNi scripts and MegaMan music. Obviously, this cheeses off alot of UK fans because AB kept the original music in all the other DBZ dubs they did for Europe.
The AB dub starts at the ep where Goku shows off Instantaneous Movement.

Man, that has got to suck. Well the music and scripts at least. I wouldn't mind it if Funi still used Ocean for the NA DBZ. But the reason I suspect you're getting the canned '80s arcade music is the same reason we're still getting it. The original music wasn't there when the new company got their hands on it "so why should they put it in?".
The AB dub starts at the ep where Goku shows off Instantaneous Movement. So you guys get silly-bad music and the Ocean voices for two seasons, then you get the crappy-bad music and the Funi voices, and then it changes again and you get more crappy-bad music and the ocean voices back? That's just... ugh.
And why we're on the topic of CN UK's Toonami, what's up with your announcer? I've seen clips of UK's Toonami's commercials over at the Digital Arsenal. Now I hear you guys got a different Gundam Wing dub then we did, but GunDAM? Heh.

Yep, we have the new TOM.
In the DBZ dub. Characters say "I will destroy you" whilst the FUNi versions "I will kill you" and people don't die, they 'go'. An example of this: FUNi "It's true, you really are dead!" AB "It's true, you really are gone!"
I'm also annoyed with how CN UK handled Endless Waltz. The first showing of it (10:30 am on a Saturday) cut out all scenes before the title card for parts 2 and 3. They then repeated it the next day at 10:30 pm, with no cuts. If it was scenes with bad content I could understand but that was just stupid

Different countries say things dif ways. It's like Jumanji, American's say it more like Jumunji. When I say Gundam though, I pronounce it more as 'Gundum'.

I can understand different pronunciations for different countries. What I can't understand is that if the UK's Toonami had the rights to a series that pronounced it one way, then why did they have an announcer that said it another way? That's just being sloppy.

Well, the teasers (which had a scene from episode one and ended with a schematic of Tallgeese II) said it like they do in the show. Then there was another (For G Wing returning to 5pm) which had a woman (who sounded VERY much like Relena) saying it as they do in the show. The announcer who says it as GunDAM is one who CN UK use when they do trailers which focus on advertising the action side of series.

GunDAAM is how they pronounce it in Japanese, because I say a video clip of the opening song/clip for Mobile Suit Gundam, and that Japanese guy was singing: ... bla bla bla ... (japanese stuff i don't understand) ... bla bla bla Goondaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaam!
IMO the American dub opening was way better, een though it was a dub. It had the warlike aspects that the Japanese one didn't have. The Japanese one had the White Base crew dancing and running around with a green background, and Amuro Ray was raising his hands and making ballerina movements, and there was this emotional music, and it looked like a dance show rather than a war story.
I'd like a full replay of the Gundam series, in the CORRECT ORDER, from MS Gundam, on to whatever comes later. That could be on the 5:00 PM timeslot.
Then, I'd like Dragonball/Z/GT for an hour (2 episodes).
Finally, I'd like a non-anime cartoon, namely, some form of Batman.
PS- I watched the first episode of Tenchi today and it sucked! It's nothing entertaining, barely any humor, and I've heard its all romance. Oh well, I guess I should watch some more and then form my opinion.

I like "Fly, Gundam, Fly". It's cool in a cheesey, I-started-a-large-mecha-franchise kindof way.
Was it the first ep of Tenchi Muyo? If it was, trust me, it gets better. The first ep is kind of slow, but from ep 2 onwards it's much better. The romance is where the comedy lies.

I know, they've got a ton to work on, and they'll be doing a bunch of it at the same time. I've got to wonder, between all this voice work and his cigarettes, how much longer can Chris Sabat's voice hold out?
That's one of the problems, DB/Z/GT has TONS of characters, there really shouldn't be one person who does most of the voices. We know they have the money to hire more people, yet they don't.
As far as I know most of the script is intact, along with the scripts from the other series Funi is working on. At least the company is trying to improve.
They're going to have to try really hard to get me to think of them as a GOOD company. When YYH come out, I don't want to hear Hiei say that he just sent a Youkai (Demon) to the "next diminsion".

Vegetainsane: That's funny, because in the Japanese opening theme for Turn A Gundam, the word is distinctly pronounced "Gundum."
I also disagree about the Toonami MSG opening being better. The show is an artifact, and the cheesy opening theme reflects its age and historical importance. It should be kept.

I rather like the japanese opening myself. Sure, it's a bit corny, but didn't all shows made around it's time period have a cheesy opening?

And I'm going to disagree with LLJ. The original opening of MSG had me rolling on the floor. The new opening that Toonami (along with the promos) did actually got me excited for the show. It made me want to watch the series.
I understand that the original opening is a product of it's time, but in this day and age it just comes off as baaaaaaad. But I still love the show.

Funny, every sub I've ever seen for a Gundam series had the Japanese VA's saying "Gundum" not "GunDAM".
As for Tenchi, yes it does get better, but then I loved it from the start. Still, you might want to give it another shot.

No way! This show comes from the era of Gatchaman and what-have-you 70s anime shows, where cheesy themes were the norm. They make you laugh? So what, they rocked! How could you hate 70s anime themes? The 70s Devilman, for instance...
"Devilmaan! Devil-chop! Devil-kick!"
Oh yeah. The only thing missing from the original Gundam's theme song is a Japanese guy saying, "Coo, man!" :D

Yup, I currently have the Gundam X subbed dvd(bootleg, yeah yeah :) ) and the Japanese VAs pronounce it "Gundum" also if anyone has the GW DVDs, switch it over to Japanese w/ subs and you'll hear it there as well...

Yep, we got the edited version of G Wing in the afternoon run, they only ran the "uncut" version at midnight. And it was "The Great Destroyer" in both versions. The major difference was things like "Destroy" in the afternoon, but "Death" at midnight.
Huh? Are you in the US, Obsession? If so, you're incorrect. They did use 'destroy' and 'Great Destroyer' in the afternoon, & 'death' in the evening. But they did say 'God of Death' in Midnight Run as well. I remember this distinctly, for one specific reason: the episode where Duo comes back with the rebuilt Deatscythe after escaping the lunar base. You see several enemy mobile suits in space, then the Deathscythe comes out of nowhere, slicing them to bits. The next shot is a cut to Duo in the cockpit. In the afternoon version, he shouts:
"The Great Destroyer is back again!"
whereas on the Midnight Run he said:
"The God of Death is back from Hell!"
Ahhh... I miss the MR version. :)

I missed the first episode, but I've been watching Tenchi Muyo since then, and I'm enjoying it. I've seen the odd episode of Tenchi Universe here and there, but never the whole series, so this is kinda starting over for me. Personally, I like it. There's lots of innuendo and I love the sniping insults between Aieka and Ryoko. I'd just like to see an uncut version on Adult Swim or something.

Yes, I'm in the US, west coast even. It's just been so long since I've seen the uncut version which ran at Midnight. I guess my memory is just playing tricks on me. Maybe it's time for me to hobble off to the CNX old folks home and join JC...
...speaking of whom, I think we need to convince him to start posting here.

I can't see why CN had to edit that part. Bad/naughty seem the same to me.

That entire scene was so heavily edited, it was funny. From the 'digital swimsuits' on Ryoko & Aeika, to the dialog changes, it was pretty bad how hard they were trying to mask the sexual content of that scene. Not to mention their 'tea'. :p

I don't think many children know what sake is. I never tried it though, too lazy to walk to the store anyway.

Maybe they could have called it wine instead of tea. Of course, it's easier for kids to think that people are drinking tea out of the cups they were using.
Good sake is a wonderful companion to a good Japanese steakhouse meal. Of course, as long as you stretch out the time it takes to drink the bottle (or you're not driving). :)

Tenchi is simply the best show on Toonami right now....Its something refreshing...We've had NOTHING but crazy action since it left the block, We need some comedic action!!
...and "Tea" ... Heh...How can you get drunk off of tea?? HMMM?

How can you get drunk off of tea??
I've mentioned this before but simply prefix the word "tea" with "Long Island Iced" and you'll understand how they get drunk :)

A few points:
As someone else has already stated: The OAV series - the one CN generically refers to as "Tenchi Muyo" - is comprised of the two seasons of the "Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ouki" OAV series, a.k.a. OAVs 1 and 2. OAV season 1 contains episodes 1 through 7 and the Mihoshi Space Special (MSS was never broadcast, of course). OAV season 2 contains episodes 8 through 13 plus a 6 minute mini episode that CN never aired called "Here Comes Jurai": Part 2.
The Pretty Sammy OAV series (which is not associated with the OAV series CN is currently running) only has 3 episodes to it. I personallly don't think it's Toonami material but, if Sailormoon and Card Captors can get some airtime on Toonami then why not? *shrugs*
The Pretty Sammy television series is 26 episodes long but has never been dubbed for English audiences. It's doubtful it'll be dubbed anytime soon.
The movies? Sci Fi still owns the airing rights to the first Movie, "Tenchi Muyo In Love" (TMiL). The second movie, "Manatsu no Eva" ("Daughter of Darkness") and the third movie, TMiL2, would both have to be edited for broadcast on Toonami, moreso than the first movie. Personally, neither of the last two movies are worth their weight in edits.
Yes, they are going to conclude the the OAV series, "Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ouki". The third season of the OAV is being produced in japan right now along with another television series called "Galaxy Police" (GXP) which will also be in the OAV timeline. I assume that because the official web site, http://tenchi-web.com , (site in Japanese) is only giving out news for GXP, GXP will probably be released before the last season of the OAV series.
And finally, since Pioneer apparently no longer owns the distribution rights to the "Tenchi Muyo!" franchise, I have absolutely no idea when or even if it will ever be 'officially' subtitled or dubbed in English. Hopefully, a good company like Bandai will pick it up for us.

They need something like Ranma 1/2 or Pretty Sammy. Half of Toonami is made up of Dragonball episodes. I already get my fill of Dragonball on the International Channel.

With 65+ episodes...thats like 3 or more months on Cartoon Network...I think you'll catch one of the series.
