I think the Internet should be a wonderful place for indie animated series; release an episode every week, then once a season or a story arc is done, collected them for DVD. Much like what Red vs Blue did. This would also bring back the Original Animated Video (OAV) eras of the 1980's & 90's, except this time using digital delivery right to your computer. And not just Flash animated work, like Happy Tree Friends. Other kinds of animated works like traditional hand drawn works, 2D stuff, 3D works, stop motion, and so on.

This thought came when I came across some video podcasts, and I'm thinking, why not have these indie animated stuff and OAV released the same way as video podcasts are done? You'll have your audience watch your episode on their PC, iPod, PSP and so on anywhere anytime.

There's a lot of examples to follow from on how these podcasts are done; Pure Pwnage; and Red vs Blue.

Also webcomics, where comics are displayed every week for free, and at a certain time be collected into books or ebooks for sale. For webcomics to be released as books there are channels like Lulu.com (http://www.lulu.com/) & Comixpress (http://www.comixpress.com/) that can handle the printing for cheap. Could this be done for your animated works?

The thing is OAVs aren't dead, they're waiting to be delivered from the Internet into your iPod.

It's not really a new idea, I understand, but I thought we might discuss this.

What do you think?

Hope to get word from Matt Wilson considering his position on "Webtoons"
