In the spirit of the recent, "What live-action movie would work as cartoons" poll here comes "What cartoons would work as live-action movies?

Max Steel and Speed Racer are the only two that would be able to translate to live action and be able to pull it off. Everything else would rely too heavily on CGI and animatronics, and wouldn't look right, especially Fairly Oddparents.

G.I. Joe wouldn't feel right as live action, either for some reason. Cobra Commander and Destro in live action would be just a bit too cartoony for a movie about a military force.

I'd say Mighty Max and Jonny Quest would make the leap to live action if done properly.

I'd say Mighty Max
I'm with you with Max! Let's get 'em!

I'm sure if Fairly Oddparents was a live action movie, Timmy, Wanda and Cosmo would simply be cast by live actors. They certainly wouldnt look like the 2D versions from the show.

That would be cool. It would be cool if Jim Henson's Creature Shop could create Virgil, like they did the characters for the TMNT movies. Hopefully, they'd be able to do better make-up effects for Skull Master than was done for Skeletor in the old MotU movie. The Lava Beasts would have to be CGI, though. I couldn't imagine them being done any other way. I doubt it would ever happen, though. Mighty Max is a property that's over ten years old now and it's so obscure to everyone but us 'toon fans. Nice thought, though.

Danny Phantom might work, but I think I'd rather see Nickelodeon Studios make an animated movie instead.

The general rule is that the primary characters have to be human beings. Even then, it's a tricky sort of thing. Usually, cartoon characters are meant to be cartoon characters. Something that's done in animation for half-hour periods of time can't necessarily translate to live action for an hour and a half to two hours.

From those choices, the only one I'd care to see is G.I. JOE. That would be sweet.

And maybe SPEED RACER. Was never a fan of the cartoon, but I think there's potential for an entertaining movie.

For me, Speed Race would be the most logical choice since all of the characters are human, except for Chimp Chimp.

Captain Planet and The Planeteers would also make a great live-action movie..

Jonny Quest is LONG overdue. They're working on The Jetsons as it is, or is it in development limbo?

And I can see WB making a live action Pokemon one of these days. Just wait. It's coming.

I grew up on Speed Racer. I had a Hot Wheels knock-off of the Mach 5. I only stopped watching because my mom decided it was too violent, the only show I ever saw that got that brand. I've seen it since, and it's a horrible show, but I'd totally watch a movie.

I'm pretty sure a live-action Smurfs movie would give me nightmares.

First off, why the heck is 'Da Boom Crew' even being considered? Find me a group of people who would even be willing to subject themselves to anything new related to that show?

As for my picks, I also agree with the whole 'go with the choices that'll require little or no CGI animated characters,' which leaves us with Max Steel, Speed Racer, and G.I. Joe. Sailor Moon could work too, but I'd be against it if only for how completely screwed up the plot might end up being.

Gargoyles could work, but Goliath and company would definitely have to be CGI though. Otherwise, the production values of them gliding through the air would so scream 'cheesy to the max.' :p

They're developing a CGI movie for the Smurfs that's supposed to made as a trilogy.

The Jetsons? That would be kinda neat--- hehe.

Out of that list, Johnny Quest may do well.

I remember when MIB2 came out, there were elements of the cartoon in the film. That was interesting, though I would have loved to see them use characters like Zeeltor, or have alien agents like X.

Technically, they could do the Jetsons now if they wanted, seeing as how they've already done similar cities in A.I., The Fifth Element, and parts of the Star Wars prequels.

Even though I am going to be too old when it comes out in 2008, I'm definitely seeing it no ifs, ands, or buts..

I wouldn't mind GI Joe but something tells me it would be like the Street Fighter movie.

I think Gargoyles would work as well, there is good CGI, and it is more a story acting thing then just that. But costumed actors/actresses would work too. Its not like it would be the first time movies have made characters fly after all.

Stuff like Johnny Quest and Speed Racer would work fine, but I don't know how many would actually go to see it.

I would love to see a Justice League live action movie, using Bale and who ever is Superman in the new movie as the Batman and Superman

Thundercats and a new He-man movie would work as well.

I think the key to going with a live action movie from a toon is that the toon has to have human characters that are drawn to human type scales. Something like Fairly Odd Parents, Powerpuff girls and other CN toons just wouldn't look right with live actors because the look would be to far from the orginal sorce material.

Thinking about a LA G.I. Joe movie just causes too many LA Street Fighter movie flashbacks. :ack:

I would like to see an Ed, Edd 'n Eddy movie made by Kevin Smith (or a remote 2nd, the Farrely Bros.)

Actually, in Japan there's already a live-action Sailor Moon (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=2961).

As mentioned, there is already a live action Sailor Moon TV show in Japan, so I'm sure a movie could work.

Of that list I'd be most interested in seeing a Pokemon or Fairly Oddparents film.

Buried somewhere in my video mess is a tape of a live action Sailor Moon that appears to be one of those touring mall shows (a single set, few props, the actors yell all their lines). Several years ago, Geena Davis optioned a live-action Sailor Moon movie (she was going to play Queen Beryl): i guess the option has since lapsed.

Most of the 80s sci-fi/techno cartoons would make excellent LA movies: M.A.S.K., Galaxy Rangers, Bravestarr (particularly with a CGI 30/30 and villains).

Starlight Hillbillies. Oh my god, it'd be make such an awesome live-action movie. I'd probably get Jim Carrey to play as Pa. He'd probably do the best job.
