Here's another topic from me concerning: Dick Grayson and Tim Drake. What do you like about them, what don't you like?Who do you think made, or makes the better Robin, why or why not?
Dick created the Robin persona due to his mom calling him her little robin when in the circus. How would you feel to see someone else come and assume your role with your name which holds special meaning for you?

Personally I liked Dick Grayson better as Robin because it looked weird to see Batman working with a 12 year old as a partner. As for someone using a special family name of mine, I would be very unhappy.

Little kids don't have the necessary muscle to kick ass. The only conceivable way for Tim Drake to successfully win all those fights would be to hit all the criminals squarely in the genitals.

are you talking about just the animated series? I didn't care much for Tim in the Cartoon. Now in the comics he's awesome. One of my favorites. But in TNBA he's a little... I don't know...I just don't care of him. But as far as a 12 year old... Dick was once a 12 year old Sidekick that grew up. When the Animated series started, it was like 5 or so years after they teamed up, I believe. SO ther age thing doesn't bother me.

Dick Grayson is ROBIN..no doubt about that

Tim Drake is my fave though, cuz he added the "comical relief" to the show, sorta like what The Flash is doing for Justice League.

I've never cared for Tim as Robin. He's okay, but if you ask me he should have assumed another persona and not just taken over as Robin, you know? Like Batboy or something.

The age thing kinda bothers me, but not too much. I imagine him as being like fifteen, not twelve (in the animated series they never mentioned his age). I think they need him to ad sarcastic youthful spunk to the equation, as Dick seems to have matured.

As far as the animated series is concerned, I don't think they needed to fix what wasn't broken in the first place. Even if they were trying to comply with DC history, seeing Dick and Bruce at each other's throats just hurts me too much. I don't find it funny at all. Firstly, Dick looked better as Robin. He was built, his costume actually didn't look like a goofy sidekick outfit, and even his spiky hair didn't bug me. He had a great personality, an interesting love/hate relationship with Batgirl amd Barbara and was a perfect addition to the show.

Tim on the other hand, was very unbelieveable. He just waltzed off the streets, had only one training session with Bruce that we got to see, and then started up with the backflips. At least in Gotham Adventures, we've been getting to see him training. I never believed that he could do any of those things, and seeing him do them only took away from Dick. If a ten year-old with no experience can do what took Dick seven years of intense training to accomplish, then what's so special about their abilities? Dick was realistic, Tim wasn't. I did like Tim's (unexplained new) costume, with the black, red and yellow, but his "comic relief" lines only made me dislike him even more. What gives him the right to be Robin? Just because his father was murdered? Bruce just lead a totally stranger into his home, gave him an outfit and put up with him! At least we got to see a serious emotional attachement between Dick and Bruce from the day they met, but Bruce never even seemed to like Tim. Oh, and the whole fact that both sidekicks (Robin and Batgirl) we used so often for "comic relief" really made them both seem like young, incompetant fools. Batgirl was supposed to be what...21? She acted like she was 16! "As if!" That drove me nuts! She seems older in B:TAS than in TNBA!

As for Nightwing...I can't say I like him as much as Robin. I didn't even get the toy. I won't support a story that seperates Dick and Babs (who do love one another), supports Babs and Bruce as a match (um..lolita?) and turns Dick against Bruce when they should all be fighting side-by-side, and Dick and Babs should be together. I understand that Dick needed to grow up, but he didn't have to grow away .....

To me Dick Grayson is the first best Robin.

However, I still believe the best version of Dick is TAS both of Robin and Nightwing.

Obviously, Dick Grayson was wearing Tim Drakes costume and hairstyle so we have the comics version of Tim to thank for finally giving us a Robin with pants. :p

Jason Todd I never liked but I find what they did to him with that vote to be evenmore loathsome and shamefull and a true example of how nihilistic comics were becoming in the post DKR era.

TAS Tim Drake had some of Jason Todds aspect only he was much much more likable and I love the costume they designed for him.

I really wish we could get to see Dick Grayson as Robin when he was 10 years old right after the events of Robins Rekoning.

Hmm.

ANIMATED SERIES.
Here Dick is better as Robin. I DONT like this Tim, because in the Series, Tim is just the NAME of his comic book counter part. However, his attitude, his origin, is more that of Jason Todd! And as you can see hardly, (still) anyone likes that character. That's why when Tim came to the Series, I was so dissapointed that this little runt, was around the elite team. And I was also made, because anyone who watches the show alone, will hear the name Tim Drake, and automatically thik of that runt. And it feels like it tarnisehs the Tim Drake of the Comic books.

THE COMICS
Tim Drake is the Better Robin. Dick was great, but Dick in the long run, was TOO much like Bruce. Never fully excepting his role, and wanting more control. That's natural. Dick is a better Nightwing than he was a Robin. Nightwing was his destiny, Dick is not just a Side kick, he's his own super power. That's like Wonder women not having her own book, and just showing up in issues of Superman.
Tim Drake is a greater Robin, because he knows his limits. Which is also a bad thing, but better for Batman. And Tim....He's WAAY smarter than Dick was at that age. He's a real detective, very similar to that of Batman, and know one had to teach him. That is his gift. And Tim is very mature, almost too mature. And he has trained very hard, but his techniques are controled, and not Flamboyant. His skil lacks charisma, he only does enough to get the job done. He'll use the same move over and over agin if it works. In some way's, and with more years to come of physical training, I see HIM as the heir to the throne, hopefully he grows to 6'2", Dick did'nt. (LOL! when Nightwing, Filled in for Batman, Comissioner Gordon New he was a fake, he even said "the real Batman is several inches taller"). But Batman is'nt going anywhere.

Well, as many here know, I don't care the Robin character at all. I prefer the lone Batman to the "dynamic duo" Batman. But, there was one Robin I liked in all the animated and mainstream continuity - Tim Drake from the cartoon. I always found Dick Grayson incredibly annoying, obnoxious, and whiney - in both the mainstream and animated comics and the show. Everytime he'd show up on the show, I wanted to just reach into my TV and smack him around. My favorite Robin story in any of the incarnations is Death in the Family. THe first two Tim Drake Robin mini-series in the comics were good, but the characteer quickly lost my interest after that. I didn't find myself ever really liking any of the Robins until the animated Tim Drake came along. He didn't look as ridiculous in that silly costume, and I just liked his attitude.

I like both Robins to be honest. Neither one really ticked me off or anything.

Dick Grayson made a good Robin. "TAS" interpretted him nicely. i wuz happy that Bruce Timm & co. didn't give him the original "Robin" costume from the comics. He had his moments being Batman's kid sidekick. His transition into Nightwing wuz a nice touch to keep up with mainstream comics.

Tim Drake wuz also a pretty good Robin. To me, Robin was really just a dorky, smart-ass kid, not a late teenager that Dick Grayson wuz when we saw him as Robin. The official site says he's 13, which is like "intro" teen. That'z pretty understandable, considerin' a 13 year-old isn't much a of a weakling (you shoulda seen my gr. 8 football team). His wisecracks, IMO, weren't THAT annoying. they were ok, since he wuz a smart-ass kid. It's a shame that his career as Robin came to a freaky end...

In the animated continuity, I like DG more than Tim, but I would rather see Batman working without Robin and see DG as Nightwing. I'd rather have there be no consistent sidekick, which is one of the complaints I have against TNBA, and why I think that the limited appearances of DG in BTAS were better. Tim is too small, and to me, he doesn't make a credible sidekick. I also disliked the wisecracks.

If we're talking about comics, I still prefer DG, but I like Tim okay.
