"Bloody Mary" Episode #914.
Stan is embarrassed in front of his friends when his dad is arrested for drunk driving. Are we going to go two episodes in a row without intense social commentary?

...Not likely, but one can hope :p

A statue of the Virgin Mary spewing blood out her back end is undeniably offensive.

...Yet for some reason very VERY hilarious.

Is Alcholics Anonymous really like this?

Funny AND Endearing!

Also, gotta love the lines:
"Kid, do you you know how the 12-Step Plan works?"
"Yeah, and I know how a cult works. I was in charge of one."
SLAM!

Continuity AND calling it out on cults! :p

In the end, this was quite a good way to end the batch of episodes. Now to make the obligatory list of the episodes from best to worst.

1. Free Willzyx
2. Bloody Mary
3. Follow that Egg
4. Trapped in the Closet
5. Marjorine
6. Two Days Before the Day After Tomorrow
7. Ginger Kids

i liked the beggining with the karate school, the bloody mary was funny at first, then meh  overall another lacking episode I definitely agree with you here. This episode and the "Trapped in the Closet" episode were the two weakest episode of this batch. Personally, it would have been better if Trey and Matt ended the batch with another Xmas episode instead of a stinker.

Where the hell was Kenny? He was in the background of the classroom but that's in. No Kenny equals no funny. This episode gets a D-. The only reason that it doesn't get an F is that I agree with the creators that alcoholics need to man up and have a beer.

I wouldn't know about AA, but my Dad is in Narcotis Anoymous (NA) and they're sort of similar with the 12 step program and having heavy faith in god despite the fact it's not a real relgion. So like other SP plots it's based on realistic views but a bit overreacted (well Stan's Dad was the real over-reactor here, but that makes sense considering his character nowadays).

This was an alright episode. The virgin mary plot did seem like kind of a waste though. I mean I'm sure there was a much better way to get Randy to have a "miracle" happen to him, but hey whatever. At least the ending was still good. It feels like it came from some movie but I don't know exactly which one.

Nice to see Trey taking a much-deserved swipe at AA. All the abstinence-based programs (Sexaholics, Gamblers, Overeaters) are centered around denial of personal responsibility ("I have a disease") and the futility of moderation.

There's a lot of that crap going around nowadays (blaming McDonald's because you're a fatass, etc).

I liked the message, but why was the episode... ...not funny? Lots of dead air. It was strange. Almost disturbing, even.

I dug the episode, and having been out of the SP loop for a while, I don't recall Stan being the leader of a cult. Still a funny line though.

I too loved to see Matt and Trey take a well-deserved strike at AA. It is nothing but a cult, and I knew that they would make fun of it sooner or later. I don't know if anyone here watches Penn and Teller's Bullsh*t, but this episode's take on AA is exactly like Penn and Teller's take on it in their AA episode, which is not too surprising because Matt and Trey are friends of Penn and Teller...

I didn't agree. AA may be a cult but it does a lot of good. It HAS saved a lot of people from the gutter. I guess to M&T they don't count, or they're all like Stan's dad.

There IS such a thing as alcoholism....geez. What an uninformed episode.

Well, that's it for a while.

My thought? Not as good as "Free Wilzyx", but pretty good at least.

AA Member: Young man, do you know ANYTHING about the 12-step program!?
Stan: Yes, and I also know a thing or two about cults, I was a leader of one for a while.

Yawn. Another mediocre Soth Park episode featuring Stan and his dad. These types of episodes are getting really old, really fast.

Matt...Trey...stop trying to use the show to stand on your soapbox and preach your feelings about whatever topic has got the bug up your butt this week. Just entertain us.

I like Kenny too and all, but I'm not going to let his very minimal role in this episode reduce my enjoyment of it (although I felt like it would be funny if his dad and Jimbo were there reacting to Randy's recovery). It's not like I don't understand loyalty to a character, I love Randy. Everytime he went "STAAAN!" I cracked up.

What's funnier, an episode where Randy goes to AA and learns valuable lessons and makes lifelong friends or takes it too far and misinterprets what his real problem is? South Park isn't about giving credit where it's due, it's about making fun of flaws wherever it can find them.

An all right episode. A little light on the jokes for South Park, but I really liked the pope's quote.

It didn't deny that it was a real problem, it pointed out how ridiculous is it that someone caught drunk ONCE has to be put in a program? The AA program may actually turn a one-time offender into an alcohnolic because the "powerless" bunk may give them an excuse to drink more.

AA is NOT equiped for non-alcoholics, and the fact that the justice system assumes throwing all DUIs into one program will help is typical of their stupidity. It's like telling someone who over-eats to stop eating permenantly.

And are alcoholics really blameless? Some are violent and do irreperable emotional damage to their children. If they made it to AA, the "powerless" motto may actually reverse any remorse they feel for what they did to their family and can hinder reconciliation. "It's not my fault I hit you. I had a disease!"

Great episode. I loved it how they went against the general public and those in the government who believe that Alcoholism is a disease. There are plenty of individuals out there that buy into that crap and waste millions of dollars on funded programs (outside AA and similar orginazations) to find a cure for Alcoholism. Although I couldn't stop laughing when Randy would compare himself to those who have real diseases and believed he was equal.

Randy crying and shaving his head was funny, everything else wasn't.

Point blank, the episode was saying, "people with AIDS, cancer, and stuff like that have a disease. If you can't control your drinking, that's a personal issue, not something that's beyond your own control."

What an awful episode. The statue of Mary, bleeding was just wrong. Yet Matt & Trey tackle the issue of Randy's drinking problem. It has been a problem for while like in that baseball episode earlier this season. They told him stuff that was a lie in order to get 'cured' of the disease. I sometimes think Matt & Trey do tasteless episodes in to look good. Well looks like we take a breather from now until March. See you next season.

The Pope leaning up to see the Virgin Mary's bleeding butt crack was hilarious. Matt and Trey need to put in more disturbing, weird stuff like this in the show like they did in earlier seasons

Did I miss an ep? Was Stan really the leader of a cult?

Did I miss an ep? Was Stan really the leader of a cult? Yep. In the "Trapped in the Closet" episode, the Church of Scientology members considered Stan to be the reincarnation of cult founder L. Ron Hubbard and made him the leader of their religion.
