Now that is one excellent cliffhanger! I was a bit apprehensive about this comic when I began to read it but the dark humor just won me over. Has anyone else read this? I think this is a pretty neat experiment on Marvel's part. It's got some pretty twisted stuff in there and it pretty graphic but the great artwork really helps the story along. Seeing some of Marvel's best heroes feast on others and having their limps ripped off or blown apart is a bit of an eye-opener!

i thought this was a nice read even though im not really into the whole "zombie thing". i guess it's kind of interesting that somewhere deep down the zombies are "still human".

how is magneto still alive???!!!

I just read it and yeah i like it, i was Whoa on how the zombie heroes are ripping apart Magneto and how Spider-Man even if he's a zombie still thinks the same when he was before.

and how Spider-Man even if he's a zombie still thinks the same when he was before. I actually found that scene to be pretty comical. It was some very good dark humor. Peter wails on about how he's eaten Mary Jane and Aunt May and all the other zombie heroes do is shrug it off as Spider-Man just over-reacting and complaining again. I think Kirkman dropped alot of great scenes and showcased some very bizarre humor. The whole situation with Hulk changing back to Bruce Banner and dealing with all the people he ate as Hulk was a good touch. It wasn't a perfect grandslam by Kirkland but it's easily a three-base run.

I'm really digging this series so far. The premise is phenomenal, and timing it with the coming of Galactus is a great twist. Kirkman's very clever and logical, and that's the way he handles these two issues... they're very well paced, not a boring spot to be found... there's a good deal of talking, but it's very interesting, and whatever you would call action in these two issues works really well.

I'm loving it. If you're a Marvel fan, you owe it to yourself to buy both of these issues and see what it's all about... this isn't just a zombie fest, it's a Marvel Superheroes Zombie fest, and it's expertly handled. Sean Phillips does a tremendous job with the art... with a set-up like this I think he's the perfect artist for the job... he's not too gory but he gets a lot across.

I'm surprised no one's attempted a series like this, it's absolutely fantastic, just run out and buy this now!

i am enjoying the mini series. i just don't have alot to say because i'm not really into the "zombie thing". i don't like how we have to wait and see what happens to the silver surfer in issue 3, i thought this would have been done in issue 2. oh well. i am really digging the second print cover for issue 1, i'll definately be picking that up. i wouldn't mind seeing/buying 2nd print variants for the rest of the issues (assuming they will all go into second prints), as long as they arent those 1 in 15 things. i definately would like to see these 2 covers "zombiefied":

one can only hope... that they are not red "x"'s in a white box. the covers were fantastic four #48 and 49.

Wow, I LOVE that variant cover!
I'm not complaining, but this is already the second Spider-Man spoof cover [after the classic wedding Annual cover spoof], while this story isn't even mainly about Spidey :)

I haven't been able to read these issues, living in Holland and all, but I'm planning on getting the [inevitable] trade once it appears in the TPB store near me, as I've heard many good things about it!

The covers to this mini are absoloulty fantastic. The art itself is also gorgeous, such a nice clean style with great gorey effects, rather than just gore, gore, gore with minimal artistic ability.

I've been immesnly enjoying this mini so far. I'd love to see these guys on a Spider-Man book. :)

I love this comic.

At first I thought it seemed too gimmicky, but after reading the first two issues, I am hooked. I read it right away when I got my pulled books this week.

The story is so funny, and it's just such a good riff on zombie lore in general. I love seeing things from the zombie point of view. The art is fantastic and the humor is dark and gross, but fun.

I can't wait to see if they can eat Galactus though... I mean, they did manage to chow on Silver Surfer, so how about the big guy? :D

I list this book as the poster child for "guilty pleasure".

I'm not a fan of the art but the pure craziness of the story has me hooked. The only thing I'm wondering is with such a big hit on their hands are they whacking the characters too quickly? This will limit them if they want to do a follow up and most everyone is already dead... well dead again.

Man, I lost it when Galactus showed up and they're all like "INFINTE DINNER!"

Wow, this was great.

Some very nice stuff here [like Janet's head moaning at Black Panther for a nibble off him :D] and it's one of those comics that carry the fortunate attribute of the reader being stoked to get the next issue, after reaching the end of each issue :)
Obviously, I can't wait to see how Galactus is handled in the next issue, and Im sort of foreseeing Black Panther and Magneto's men taking the zombies down, although I can't see how that could happen... unless the Marvel Zombies actually ate all of the other zombie superheroes [as that seemed to be implied, but I wasn't sure?]...

The only thing which seemed strange to me [and it's probably due to my lack of knowledge of the character] was that the Silver Surfer['s flesh] could actually be eaten, as I always thought he was made up of cosmic energy [like that character in the Superman/Doomsday Hunter Prey mini-series, which was the only creature who ever managed to defeat Doomsday prior to the first Superman Doomsday arc], even though he used to be human.

unless the Marvel Zombies actually ate all of the other zombie superheroes [as that seemed to be implied, but I wasn't sure?]...The way I read it is that the other zombies were destroyed, but afterwards, some of the "surviving" zombies tried to feast on their remains.

Again, loved it.

It's too bad they are only making this a five-parter, I wouldn't mind seeing six parts, and it seems like there's still enough story to tell..

It's so strange to be rooting against the Marvel heroes, uhm, zombies, I kept thinking: "No! Stop building that weapon! Galactus, kill them before it's too late!" :p
When I saw Venom in a panel, I was wondering: is only Eddie Brock a zombie, or could the symbiote also be a zombie? Seeing as the symbiote lives off of adrenaline, would it still stay bonded to Eddie Brock, seeing as [I presume] dead people don't produce adrenaline?

While we wait for the final issue Marvel.com has set up a cover gallery for all the zombiefied artwork by the Marvel Zombies cover artist Aurthur Suydam. This is a great collection of some of the best and twisted covers to hit comics in ages all on one page and there's even a new Fantastic Four #1 inspired cover.

I've been struggling to find #3, with this second printing now taking place, hopefully I can get back on track with the book. I loved the first two issues, and these new covers look simply ravashing.

I still think the first printing of #1, based on Amazing Fantasy #15 is my favourite.

The third printing of Marvel Zombies # 1 (of 5) has officially sold out. A fourth printing is on the way, this time with the cover paying homage to Incredible Hulk # 1. These covers are the best part of the series, not to say the story isn't great, too. I can't wait for the conclusion next week and the lead-in to Ultimate Fantastic Four # 30.

The odd thing about the collected edition is that there appears to be two coming out withing a month of each other, at least according to Amazon.com:

Hardcover, supposedly available on June 28, 2006:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/078512277X/qid=1143691251/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/103-3445146-5116641?s=books&v=glance&n=283155

Trade Paperback, supposedly available on July 26, 2006:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0785120149/qid=1143691251/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/103-3445146-5116641?s=books&v=glance&n=283155

Either way, I'll be getting a collected edition. I love the miniseries, especially the covers. If Marvel does go through with Marvel Apes, I hope the covers and stories are at least half as good as Marvel Zombies.

On another topic, for anyone who is waiting for a trade to get into Civil War, the Civil War Prelude comes out on July 12, 2006 and collects the New Avengers: Illuminati One Shot and Amazing Spider-Man # 529-531. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0785119744/qid=1143691387/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/103-3445146-5116641?s=books&v=glance&n=283155) Also, the Infinite Crisis Hardcover is supposedly coming out on August 2, 2006. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1401209599/qid=1143691617/sr=1-3/ref=sr_1_3/103-3445146-5116641?s=books&v=glance&n=283155) If this is the real release date, I am loving DC's new trade program. If only we could get more Manhunter trades and start getting the Infinite Crisis tie-ins into trades (Firestorm, Nightwing, Breach, etc.)

It looks like Amazon has since corrected the HC release date to be in July instead. The TPB is listed for the same date, which I know can't be right. In any event, the HC was definitely not in the Marvel June advance solicitations. We'll know for sure by middle of next month if the July date is real or just some date that Amazon made up.

THE STORY: Is it wedding bells—or an Undead extravaganza!?! The world-devouring Galactus makes his way to Earth to discover the dominant life form is—Marvel Zombies! Can the zombies defend their world from the Big G or will they meet their end in a planet-wide conflagration? The answer will shock you in this conclusion that ties into the upcoming Ultimate Fantastic Four storyline “Frightful,” beginning next month!

Thoughts? What are your comments?

So instead of just Galactus, the Marvel super-zombies are now the planet devourers. I didn't see that coming. It also makes the Big G's tie in to the Ultimates universe more questionable

I thought that was a great and chilling ending. It's a pretty smart idea on Kirkman's part to have the idea of Galactus turn into that.

While this issue went by a bit fast for me I absolutely loved it. This has been probably one of my favorite Marvel comics in a long time. I've been getting increasingly let down by them in recent years but this comic was just everything I could have hoped for. Once that cliffhanger to the first issue hit I was hooked. This was definitely a comics I looked forward to reading every month. I hope that Marvel decides to do more Marvel Zombie mini-series down the line and keep Kirkman at the helm.

It was a fun read, but I was a bit disappointed we didn't learn the origin of the zombification. Some sort of alien virus carried over from an infected superhero (The Sentry) whose hunger compelled him to punch through from his dimension into theirs. I don't believe they touched on this in the miniseries, but it was noted in one of the issues of "Ultimate Fantastic Four" leading up to it (issue 22, IIRC).

The newest printing of the Marvel Zombies hardcover (the fifth printing - wow!) is causing quite a stir because of it's cover. The cover for the new printing is:

http://www.newsarama.com/marvelnew/Zombies/MarvZomb5th_t.jpg

This is a homage to a Mary Jane/Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane cover that has alot of people upset once again at Marvel.

Here is a link to one article that expresses disgust on about the cover (link contains adult language):

http://comics212.net/2007/06/12/

Other blogs around the net have expressed a collective "ew" with the new cover.

I will add that even though the bought the entire mini-series I decided to pick up the hardcover anyway and ther story is still fun with some gorgeous artwork. Hard to believe that such a fad could erupt over a comic like this. I bet Marvel had no idea that Marvel Zombies would be this big.

I was trying to figure out why I thought the furor over the latest reprint cover was overblown, but couldn't quite pin it down. Luckily, Steven Grant managed to figure it out and articulate it better than I could (http://www.comicbookresources.com/columns/index.cgi?column=pd&article=2807).

I was also a bit puzzled about why they selected THAT cover out of all the covers they have to do an homage. Not that I don't like the original cover, but it seems like there are a bunch of other Marvel covers that they could have homaged instead that would have gotten a bit more recognition.
