This is the talkback thread for DC Heroes on U.S. Postage Stamps in 2006 (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=7314).
SweeEEeEEEEEEETttttt!!!!
I can hardly wait to slap Hawkman on my mortgage payment or a cover to Batman #1 on my membership renewal for the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund.

Oh, for the love of... did they have to choose a Jim Lee Batman image?? Grrrrr.

Is there any chance of those stamps actually circulating in Chicago?

Oh, for the love of... did they have to choose a Jim Lee Batman image?? Grrrrr.
Never mind that (though I wondered why not a classic yellow-insignia Bats artwork piece, myself)---I'm wondering why they didn't choose a Ramona Fradon-drawn Aquaman cover (since she seems to be the "definitive" and longest-lasting artist for the character) instead of the one chosen (plus the description in the press release for ol' Arthur Curry sounds a bit of a downer in tone for something meant for the general public, i.e. my mom...).
For that matter, wonder why the choices for these stamps covers-wise didn't go with more noteworthy covers (like Action #1, Showcase #4, etc.)...
OK, done ranting. All the above said, will enjoy putting the DC heroes on my phone bills. :-)
Re: Circulation: They're being released by the US Postal Service, so even Chicago will see the stamps (barring the, erm, idiosyncracies of Chicago postal workers ;-) ).

Howdy,
Mark Evanier links to 2 earlier Superman stamps (http://www.newsfromme.com/archives/2005_11_30.html#010630): one from Canada (Shuster was Canadian, after all) and one from an earlier US Post Office issue. Apparently, he also just talked to Paul Norris (http://www.newsfromme.com/archives/2005_12_01.html#010633) (creator of Aquaman) about it, and he seemed pleased.

Howdy,
Just bumping this thread since the TZ News article about these stamps (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=11476) I just reported reminded me about it. I know I forgot about these and wouldn't have thought to make a trip to the post office next week without the article.
And no jokes about being able to finally lick the superhero of your choice, please. These are self-stick stamps that will just get stuck to your tongue if you attempt it :D.

Thanks, Ace.
I'm definitely going to buy a book of the Green Arrow stamps on July 21.

Like the idea of DC stamps, but the "DC encouraging the USPS to use current artists' versions of some characters" bit makes me a bit wary---*really* hoping the Supergirl image isn't the stupid/already-dated-looking belly-exposing "S"-shirt current version...

The dedication ceremony for these DC SuperHeroes USPS Stamps will take place at the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art (MoCCA) on Thursday, July 27. I saw the flyer up for it. I think it's a closed event, but regardless, it's definitely newsworthy.

This has probably been mentioned before somewhere on this site, but, I just saw today that a line of DC Superhero stamps was being released today by the USPS. They include Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Plastic Man, Aquaman, Supergirl, and Hawkman. Kinda cool. Here's a couple of links:

Nice artwork, though still think the use of a current-model Jim Lee-drawn Batman sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the other older drawings used, to me... wonder if the general public that came of age after the mid-60's used to the yellow-oval-less Batman yet... :-)
