So, this was talked about a little in the Amazon.com thread..but, What are everyones favorite Download services?

I use KaZaA right now. Its not the fastest, but it is one of the better systems right now. My friend Tim keeps trying to get me to use WinMX, but I haven't found time to DL, & I've been wanting Morpheous, but my bro doesn't think its necessary with KaZaA around.

I use Morpheus for most of my video downloading, but for music, I find Audio Galaxy has a larger selection available.

I've used WinMX, Limewire, and Morpheus in the past. I think that Morpheus is the best. Like I said in the Amazon thread, Morpheus doesn't use Spyware, so if you use Kazaa, you might want to consider switching. Other than the Spyware factor, they are practically the same program.

I use Morpheus, I'm content with it, so i havent tried anything else. Hey JT, what is Spyware?

I also prefer AudioGalaxy for my music and use either Morpheus or Limewire for video.

I use WinMX. I don't know if it's necessarily the best service, but it gets the job done and that's good enough for me.

Failure -- Spyware sends info back to a host on your habits, such as what you download, what sites you browse, etc.

Here's an excerpt from http://www.spyware.co.uk/

Most of these Adbots, or spyware programs DON'T collect specific information about you, but only report general demographics, and therefore are NOT stealing your name, credit card, or other personal information. But these capabilities do exist.

The other thing is, having Spyware installed can slow down the speed at which you browse or download. And they can do whatever they want with the info that they gather.

I don't think that Spyware is too big a deal, but given the choice between Spyware and Spyware-free, I'll choose the Spyware-free version.

Often, Spyware is freeware. Real Player, though no longer freeware, is an example. If you are interested in removing Spyware, there are many programs available for download, some of which can remove the Spyware components while leaving the program functional. If you search on any engine for anti-Spyware software, you'll get lots of results.

Like I say, I don't think that it's too big a deal, and I don't want to make everyone paranoid about it, but it is probably something that you should be aware of.

Also, back onto topic: I like to use www.slyck.com to keep on top of file sharing news. They rank WinMX first and Morpheus second, followed by Audio Galaxy. And they have lots of info on various file-sharing programs.

I used WinMX to download a few rarities. I finally am able to get a cable connection in my area for Inernet, I ordered it today, so hopefully sometime in the next ten days I will have it. Once I get that, I am gonna try Morpheus, as that seems to be THE place according to most people.

So, does WinMX use spyware?

One thing that really ticks me off BIG TIME about WinMX and programs like that is people who will disconnect your download from their computer cuz they don't want you to have the file or whatever reason. If they don't want me to download it, they shouldn't put it up on a shared folder! The losers. It's enough to make me mad. Hopefully, when I get cable connection, I will have the song before they even realize I am downloading anything.

Nope, I am pretty sure that WinMX is spyware-free. So far, I haven't had problems with Morpheus, though I've only really been using it for a week or so. But like I say, I've used WinMx, Limewire, and even some others in the past, and right now, I like Morpheus the most. Morpheus 2.0 is supposed to be out soon too, which should make it more impressive. That site that I listed lists some of the advantages like simultaneous downloads, downloading one file from multiple sources, and a large user base.
