This Acme Hour was a total joke.

Three of the seven cartoons were cut (Crazy Cruise, Toyland Broadcast, and What Price Fleadom...possibly even The House Of Tomorrow towards the end).

This is what I don't understand...Have You Got Any Castles had numerous showings of natives and Afr.-Am. entertainment and was left in...pretty funny because I saw this cartoon years ago on TNT and more than 2 minutes was missing. On the other hand, half of the 8:04-length Toyland Broadcast was obliterated, all because of a "black sambo band" and the jungle fever portion, where chocolate was poured over the characters to make them Afr.-American. Basically, segments 2 and 4 were cut.

This is why the budget of CN is so tight...it's too expensive for them to use common sense within the "A-oh-well-we-have no-time-warner" group! Why even show Toyland Broadcast if half of it is going to be cut out? Move that cartoon to TCM, where they have that opportunity to show it uncut...like it should be! (They just recently showed 1935's The Merry Old Soul a few days ago!)

All I can say is thank heavens I have the full version on video.

I watched this up to the end of "Batty Baseball". Doesn't make much difference to me, I don't care for most Happy Harmonies. I am sorry that "Toyland" was edited though. That sucks worse than the cartoon itself.

Enough with the edit...I had never really paid attention to "Batty Baseball" before...and man, I couldn't stop laughing! That is HILARIOUS! Tex Avery cartoons are always funny, but not like this. I particularly enjoyed the "The guy who made this corny gag isn't with us anymore" sign, and the "KILL the umpire! KILL the umpire!" gag. Much better than most baseball cartoons, and there have been lots of them. Only thing I can compare it to is "Baseball Bugs", no other baseball cartoons come close to beig that funny.

--up to the title card of "What Price Fleadom", and then turned over to Comicview on BET. Interesting juxtaposition, you might say.

The edit on "Toyland" is bad because it's so evident--a music box just abruptly blows up for no reason and rains parts on the emcee's head. Not even an attempt to be subtle from the censors, which somehow angers me more. Though this is one of Harmon's better shorts--the little doll puffing up into a Kate Smith caricature was a highlight.

"The umpire's blind! The umpire's blind!"
"Oh, I am not!" [holding can of pencils and wearing dark glasses]
