What are some cartoon theme songs that are written by actual bands as opposed to a song put together by studio musicians just for that one theme song? Some i can think of include:
Real Ghostbusters (ray parker jr)
Mission Hill (Cake)
Undergrads (good charlotte)
Aqua Teen Hunger Force (schooly d)
Baby Blues (barenaked ladies)
Teen Titans (puffy ami yumi)
Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi (well duh!)
Most anime themes

Im probably missing a lot more.

Which doesn't hold a candle to the original song performed by Flock of Seagulls!

Real Ghostbusters (ray parker jr)

I'm not sure Ray Parker Jr. performed the song for the cartoon. At least, it always sounded like someone else to me, and my eyes were never fast enough to catch the credits at the end. Anybody know for sure?

You are correct, acorrding to the credits the performer's name was John Smith. Though the RGB theme for the first 4 seasons really sound like Ray Parker Jr.'s classic.

South Park theme is done by Primus i think... Correct.

That was only an alternate credits song. Sonny Sharock made the actual theme. So, that wacky vocalizing, that noisy guitar, those heavy drums, and the sweet, sweet feedback, is Sonny Sharock? Is he from a band?

Most anime themes"Most" is an understatement. The vast majority of Japanese artists get their start doing themes for anime series.

Following in that tradition, BIS sings the Powerpuff Girls' closing theme. It's probably what they'll be best remembered for.

In Transformers the Movie the theme is sung by Lion.

The Biker Mice from Mars theme is sung by Jeff Scott Soto, formerly of the Yngwie Malmsteen band and numerous other projects.

And not a cartoon, but the theme in the Power Rangers movie is sung by an all-star band including Mr. Big's Eric Martin and Guns N Roses' Matt Sorum.

Sonny did guitar, Lance Carter did drums, and Ghost Planet Industries, aka Williams Street, added the vocals.

The Venture Brothers music is by J.G. Thirwell (Foetus). Very different from the Foetus music I remember, it's very James Bond-ish and loungey. Fits the show prefectly.

Joe Perry from Aerosmith did the theme to mid-ninties Spiderman show. The American pop-metal band Mister Big, best known here for the song "To Be With You," did the end thing to Hellsing.
