View Full Version : Watching the ABC Cartoons....

I got this strange feeling sometimes while watching the ABC debuts during "June Bugs." It didn't happen during all the ABC debuts (since some, like "Grey-Hounded Hare," "Forward March Hare," and "His Hare-Raising Tale" I had also seen on local television in the 1980s), but during some I got this strange feeling that this just wasn't right. It was almost jarring to see the "That's All Folks" title appear after the iris out. I half-expected to see the little cowboy singing "After these messages, we'll be right back" and having the horse fall down on him. Or even the ABC "One Saturday Morning" logo. And during some of the cartoons, I got this feeling like it was really Saturday morning (instead of Saturday night, or Sunday afternoon, or what have you), and I was watching ABC.

It was just jarring seeing the cartoons I had grown up with on ABC in the '80s and '90s (I'm 22, BTW) airing on a network other than ABC. I know I'll soon get used to them on CN. I was just wondering if anyone else felt the same way.

Yeah, it was a bit strange seeing all those ABC cartoons anywhere but ABC. However, it was nice to see almost all of the scenes removed by ABC restored after all these years (especially classics like "Hare Trimmed" and "Hare-less Wolf"). This was the first time I'd ever seen the original opening titles for many of those Saturday morning favorites, like "Dumb Patrol", "Compressed Hare", "Devil's Feud Cake", and "Hare-Breadth Hurry".

I especially liked seeing the special ending to "Piker's Peak"! I wasn't even aware of the "oom-pah" band's music playing over the "That's All, Folks!" until it aired on CN.

I am a bit disappointed I didn't catch "Pre-Hysterical Hare". CN didn't replay that one. I guess I'll have to wait a bit longer to finally see Elmer Fuddstone get shot in the face.

Sure. I remember many of these from CBS (Bugs Bunny Roadrunner Show). I had been waiting over 4 years since the merger to finally see stuff like Hare We Go, Wet Hare, Pikers Peak, My Bunny Lies over the Sea, Hare Breadth Hurry, Half Fare Hare (missed it both times) and Knighty Knight Bugs with the full titles and mixed in with the other stuff.
I still wish the WB network would carry on the tradition of the network formatted show.
