Taking into account that Gotham City is based on New York City, it's kind of fitting that the GCPD would have a similar ranking system to the NYPD. The Batman did this, while B: TAS didn't quite.

Allow me to explain. Usually, the top rank is either Chief or Commissioner, with a Deputy Chief/Commissioner below them or something to that effect. Well, in New York, the Police have both, with the Chief ranking directly below Commissioner, though it isn't quite like in TB and the 60s show.

Why do I bringthis up? I was just thinking on what someone said about Gordon's appearance in the TB ep Night and the City about it setting up a hierarchy within the GCPD. Useless trivia? Possibly. But, I felt like sharing.:)

since Gordan or the GCPD have not done anything of Any use since "Night and the city" it does not matter who is in charge. Since they also like to vanish, and not pursue criminals i would say who cares. They are by far the worst police force since the old 60s batman.

I wouldn't go that far. It's a common thing in cartoons that once a superhero appear, the police somehow disappear. Even, Bruce Timm and co have been guilty of this. After all, where did Maggie Sawyer and the SCU go after the JL arrived to deal with Metallo, Toyman, Kalibak, Livewire, and Weather Wizard (Who being a Flash villain, should've never been league with the aformentioned four in the first place) in Hereafter?
