First of all, I'm greatly enjoying my new DVD player (even if on a 13" TV set)....first DVD watched was "The Mummy Returns", followed by renting today "Rush Hour 2", "Moulon Rouge", and "Muppets From Space" (for the commentary track, which was pretty funny).

And if anyone cares, it's also now the second day of Kwanzaa....which I don't celebrate. But be sure to catch its commemorative fanfic story "A Very Wakko Kwanzaa", where Axel, the Warners, lab mice, and a (literal) cast of thousands save the week-long celebration of African-American culture from the clutches of Plotz's attempts to turn it into a showcase for the comeback of Yerkel...we'll also get to countdown to midnight Dec. 31st evil-sorceror-dragon-gone-Hollywood-style with "Chandu's Spell-Castin' New Year's Eve", special fanfic guest stars Tom "Dukes of Hazard/Pa Kent" Wopat, Jonas Salk, and the guy who did the dry cleaning for the costumes from "Breakfast At Tiffany's"...don't miss it! ;-)

On a serious note, here's a few items of interest to throw out:
"Shrek" and "Monsters Inc." in dead heat for Oscars race:

The opening sentence wasn't very comforting. I couldn't imagine D*sney (yah, I still like spelling it like that....it's fun!) buying the Muppets. Though their Muppets 3D *was* in Disney's California, I still can't imagine it....

A Very Wakko Kwanzaa? Oh dear.....Will we have A Very Wakko Purim as well? :p

Well, I still recall watching that all-but-an-infomercial special from a few years back with the Muppets visiting DisneyWorld(?) and Kermit meeting an (animated) Mickey Mouse, who "welcomed him to the family"...and there's been past cooperation between Henson Co. and Disney on a few occasions before...plus, the Muppets would make a quite lucrative franchise for Disney to own.

Erm, sure....as soon as I manage to research just what Purim *involves*, exactly (Jewish holiday's all I recall about it)... ;-)

Of course, I guess other near-future seasonal possibilities include:

"A Very Wakko Super Bowl": the gang tries to save the big NFL commercial-fest---er, football championship game from the mechanizations of Stewie, whose sole reason for being chosen for this story is that his head is shaped like a football (and is out to ruin the game so others will stop making fun of his head being shaped like one).

"A Very Wakko Black History Month": Joining up with the H! cast, Axel Foley, the Warners, and lab mice all visit various key moments in the history of African-American culture (the invention of peanut butter by George Washington Carver, Charles Drew's blood plasma innovations, Booker T. Washington vs. W.E.B. DuBois, etc.), as they try to prevent Murdoch from using the lucrative February sweeps month to push the anti-educational "Family Guy and 'Who Wants to Marry a MultiMillionaire?' Marathon". Guest starring: various historical figures, Bill Cosby, Yerkel.

"A Very Wakko Spring Equinox": the gang tries to stop a Shadow Ensconsed Villain's evil plan to prevent the spring equinox from arriving via trying to alter the Earth's rotation; guest starring: Green Arrow, the cast of TV's "Three's Company", Albert Einstein (yanked out of the past into the present)

"A Very Wakko St. Patrick's Day": The gang drinks a ton of root beer, wears a lot of green, and parties the whole day; guest starring: the leprechaun from the "Lucky Charms" commercials, by-then-former NYC mayor Rudolph Guiliani, the former cast of "Cheers".

"A Very Wakko Easter": The gang goes into hyperdrive to save the other major Christian holiday and the Easter Bunny from some mysterious villain who's stolen all the Easter candy and Easter eggs. Involves various repetitive fake villains' hideouts, "Easter magic", and various springtime/Easter-oriented songs based off of Broadway musical numbers. Guest starring: the Flash, this year's entire team roster for the Arizona Diamondbacks, the entire population of Indianapolis.

It's always interesting to see the variants on the same theme, but it is repetitive now. "Spaced-Out Warners" might've been good for seriousness (what with Axel's near-murder and an ending I never got around to writing), but...

Wait a minute, hold the phone! The old archives are back. Guys, wish me luck, I'm going on a mission to our past. The goal? Bring back "Spaced-Out Warners", and this way, we might have a little more seriousness in our fanfic world (It's in there, trust me!)

I'm on my way.

Oh, by the way, "Shrek" for a best picture nod!

Sincerely,

John "Captain Caps" Kilduff

I don't think it's going to get it. But it's pretty much a cinch for a 'Best Animated Movie' nomination.

As is 'Monsters Inc.' So, as in years past, I find myself wishing more than one Animated nominee could win, 'cause there's definitely more than one that deserves to.

Are you serious about that Kwanza story because I would love to read it. Also seeing how Shendu will count down the New Year makes it a plus on my list.

I could take a stab @ explaining it, but the best way to research is to read the book of Esther (the only boook in the Bible with no references to God or even prayer per se). Yes, I'll take any chance I can get to encourage others to read the Bible, but it really is the entire story of Purim, the first time the Jewish nation faced genocide. I've thought of one day writing a book Anti-Semitism: From Haman to Hitler & Beyond. My favorite moment in Esther is when Haman is trying to get Esther to interced for him, just in time for King Ahaseurus (Xerxes I) to come in & see it. His response is along the lines of "So what you've already done isn't enough; now you would rape the queen in my sight in my house?!?" and so Haman's fate was sealed.

>Stewie, whose sole reason for being chosen for this story is that his head is shaped like a football (and is out to ruin the game so others will stop making fun of his head being shaped like one).<

Hmm, football-head, eh? Will it perchance include Arnold & Helga?

>Charles Drew's blood plasma innovations, <

I remember that ep of M*A*S*H.

>Booker T. Washington vs. W.E.B. DuBois, etc.)<

Believe it or not, there was an ep of some program on Family Radio about Washington. It ended with one of his discussions with DuBois.

Sorry, but I wasn't serious. Though I'm sure "Chandu's Spell-Castin' New Year's Eve" performed reasonably well among various key demographics (including the key "single demonic creatures and netherworld beings, ages 18-49" demo), thus ensuring he'll be back hosting it again next year... ;-)

I have a Bible (that someone gave me), but don't feel too compelled to go read it/look up said chapter in it, admittedly...

Of course! We've got to ensure this thing has enough characters to be mistaken for the population of the greater Chicagoland area after all.... (or as Stewie would put it, "the *Stewieland* area"...)

Didn't know they recorded them...

Not really serious about a "Stewie taking over Black History Month" story, either, before anyone asks...
