View Full Version : One Piece at Hot-Topic?

I went to the local mall with my sister today and in Hot-Topic I noticed that they had stocked One Piece shirts. I was surprised at this because I didn’t expect 4Kids to allow any of One Piece’s merchandise to be aimed at an older audience than they were targeting. It had Gold Roger at the top with Luffy’s crew below and under that was written “I’m gonna be King of the Pirates.”

Hmmm.... Weird. 4Kids didn't say in their press release that they'll be releasing clothes for One Piece.

Wonder what made them to do so. Is that the only one you saw?

Doesn't surprise me, Hot Topic also has Naruto stuff and a ton of other anime-related products. Check out the website too; they have a special section just for anime stuff (http://www.hottopic.com/store/nodePage.asp?LS=0&RN=527).

I know about the other anime-related merchandise. In fact I have an Inuyasha shirt and a Fullmetal shirt that I bought from them in the past. I just thought it was weird since the only version of One Piece available in the US legally is the edited dub. From what 4Kids has shown so far they don't seem to care about the older fans.

Well the Rep who I had talked to a while back answered "were looking into it" when I suggested ideas for 4Kids to do with one piece. One Of the things I said was for them to try and get one Piece into urban wear, like Phat Farm, Ice berg Etc. but I guess they went for Hot Topic instead.

That shirt seems pretty cool too. I like that Gold Roger is in the backround.

Anyone surprised Chopper is on the shirt? I know I'm not.;)

It's a pretty cool looking shirt (colors are a little weirtd, but i think it's more "purposefully old looking" style they like) but they didn't have any in my size last time I was there.

Wait... so they're doing something with a show...

And the show doesn't have "Yu-Gi-Oh" or "Pokemon" in its title?

*stares in awe*

LOL. I guess they waited for Chopper after all. but the shirt is friggin cooooooool. Another thing is the 3Q Results 4Kids stated that One Piece revenue is up, does this mean thier making money off of the Games and Cards?

Well there's also Viz Media who's pushing all the Naruto merchandise at the store. Or is that because they own the rights to both the manga and anime?

I'm guessing there would be a ton of Sanji related Tobacciana if 4Kids didn't hold the licence.

Depends what you mean "in public" if you mean "hanging out around my friends" then yes. but I usually wear an open button-up shirt over a T shirt, so it's not the big focus of my fasion. That and I dn't need the approval of the "popular" people to tell me how to dress.

However, I have a much more...appropriate attaire for work and such

What's wrong with wearing anime t-shirts in public? I got an Inuyasha shirt from Hot Topic, and I wear it everywhere you could think of.

I'm not saying something is wrong with wearing it but I'm different I'm very much in the public eye of my college and I'm very popular with the students there with my fashion and my sports team portfolio. I would wear something like that but not in public I'd just sport it in the house hold and around family and my two best buds.

Galvatron, you rock! Those are the best prices I've yet seen on 'em over here. I'd love to get Zolo and Sanji for as close to MSRP yen/us dollar conversion, and as I say, your cart is the best I've seen so far!

Bookmarking site... NOW. (you know, for the day that I actually have some spending money. )

Sorry Hyper, I just love getting under all the purists skin by calling him Zolo. It started with the first ep of OP in Shonen Jump and it's just habit at this point.

These are some really conflicting buisness choices....

One Piece the Series ----- Destroys appeal to older audiences and targets directly at 10 and under crowd.

And they sell the merchandise at a pre-teen/teen store.

Somebody messed up.

Sigh....

Miss Allsunday, IS Nico Robin, but you're not supposed to know that till the end of the Alabasta arc. In the current story she's still considered a villain. and won't be a Strawhat emember till ep 130 (jpn) or so

Then you shouldn't know "Nico Robin" :p I blame people throwing her name around without spoilers and 4kids (the narrator ruined it at the beginning of the Drum arc as well)
