I would like to hear everyone's opinion on this. My choice is Darkseid.

Darkseid is the obvious choice, but it's too easy (Timm partnered up the New Gods with Superman's show because of his crummy rogues gallery). Based on their animated appearances, I say that Brainiac is the second most deadly adversary.

As I've said in other posts, Darkseid is not only the ultimate example of super villany but also he works as a villan for Superman.

Its very intresting how the aspects of the New Gods mythology mesh so well with Superman. They kind of fill gaps in each other. Hell, for my money Superman makes a better protagonist against Darkseid than Orion does. This is coming from a die hard Kirby fan to mind you.

Darkseid exists to destroy hope and Superman is a living symbol of that. Its like Christ versus Satan on a a totally different level.

My vote is for Darkseid with a secondary vote for the TAS version of Brainiac. Making him the computer of Krypton was a stroke of total genius.

I don't know if it's that good of a fit--I mean, it's a good dynamic, but it's not like we saw Superman mingling with the gods on New Genesis.

Save for the issue of Dan Turpin's murder, there's really no rivalry between them (other than the obvious clash of ideologies) the same way there is for Luthor and Brainiac. He's just this tryant who wants Earth, and Superman just doesn't want him to have it.

Overall it fits very well. However, having Superman galavant around New Genesis *would* be overdoing it.

When I say protagonist, I dont mean swapping Orion for Superman.

I mean as far as having a force for good to battle (and ultimately one day) defeat Darkseid and his heirarchy, Superman works.

In a nutshell, Superman gives the Fourth World a worthy hero and the Fourth World gives Superman one hell of a rouges gallery. (excepting of course the names I mentioned above in my last post.)

Braniac, Metallo, and (again) Darkseid. I believe that Metallo was the underrated great villain of STAS. Also, did Cyborg ever appear in STAS?
