Didn't see a thread about the show recently, and having finished ep.4 not too long ago, am anxious to talk to people about it.
So far, I've enjoyed the show, though the first episode didn't really wow me.
Honestly, I didn't get attached to anyone other than Sven (who rox) until episode 3, where he has that cute exchange with Eve.
Though after finishing episode 4, I'm hooked. The characters are likable and endearing, and the animation/music is really good.
Anyhow, commence with the comments.

Yes, the show has been a fun romp to date. Sven simply owns this series so far, and the others are pretty interesting. Although I'm not that connected to Train, it looks like things are going to develop with him now so that's a good thing. Now that we're pretty much introduced to the quartet in the opening I'm curious to see where things go from here.
And I just have to say again, Sven is awesome. Who else, I ask you, takes down baddies with a high-tech briefcase?

I'm not aware of any show called "Black Cat". I have been watching this show that recently came out on JPN TV called "White Gentleman". That show is pretty good. The first three episode were kind of meh-tastic but the episode 4 just took everything to the next level. If the show can maintain that level of awesome then we should be in for a good ride.

I watched the first two and it just a felt a little too "been there, done that for me." I will say it is done well enough that for younger fans who haven't seen or read some of the older series in the same vain, they'll eat it up.

I will say it is done well enough that for younger fans who haven't seen or read some of the older series in the same vain, they'll eat it up. Well, I agree that the first couple of episodes weren't exactly jaw dropping or revolutionary, though it picks up in episode 3 (when it comes to the heart factor).
I've been an avid fan of anime since about 1991 (seen way too much for my own good, probably), so that theory doesn't really apply to me (though it may to others). I just appreciate a well-writen character driven show with heart. I think Black Cat has that going for it. It seems to take character dynamic formulas and make the whole cast likable (which doesn't happen often for me). While it is in no way my favorite show or anything, I'm enjoying the ride thus far, and am interested to see where it is going.
The whole "been there done that" vibe you got off of it seems to eminate from a majority of forms of entertainment (esp. anime), so I can see what you're saying, though I don't think it's specific to this show.

Eps. 3+4 are really what got me hook line and sinker and seeing the change of black cat is great. Ep5 was also great but from what I heard ep6 is a sad one so I guess i'll check it out soon. Although this series feels like one of those that will be more than 26+ .

Ep 6 just made this show a lot more interesting. I honestly didn't expect what occurred in the episode
Saya died? Nooooo.... :crying: Wow I didn't see that coming with her in the closing animation and seemingly playing up a train/saya romance. Of course it's possible somehow she's resurrected I suppose, but it really appears like she's dead.
and Creed and his sword are pretty cool.

Yeah ep6 was insanely sad, I mean geez it was so kinda out there and unexpected. They even show the character in the Op/Ed so thats why it came as such a big shock to me. Hopefully now Black Cat will take care of you know who for revenge. Man, i'm just still in shock over the ending of this eppy :crying:

This show lost some "awesome points" with episode 8 (I think) "A Traveling Cat". It was nice to see the waitress again but what's with this half a year time jump? Why is Train kind of a wuss in public now? At least he's still good with a gun I guess and Sven continues to be fantastic. I guess this Tao power will make for some weird creatures eh? And holy Swamp Thing rip-off Batman! That was kinda gross overall. I previously pegged this for Adult Swim but with this slight change of style it could work on Toonami if they can handle the guns.

I seriously doubt that a show about assassins, regardless of the clearly sound moral compass the characters possess, would be a hard sell for Toonami.
On topic, I thought that the abrupt advancement in time was sort of odd, but I'm interested in where it is going.

What was even more abrupt to me was Train's personality shift. He seems to have gone from a very serious dispostion to a happy-go-lucky attitude and I don't really know what brought this on. Does he harbor regret over Saya? Does he worry about Creed and Chronos? Doesn't seem like it. But then again this is only one episode after the fact. Perhaps perhaps he's simply pulling a Vash and things go light for awhile only to turn serious again when the major players make their move. We have Creed's minions searching for potential recruits and Chronos intending to evetually move against him. Presumably at some point Train and Sven will be forced to deal with this somehow.
Show is still good, I'm just going to be looking for more depth to Train as things go on. I want to see more of the Train we saw in episodes 1-8 in addition to this happy personality.

Train, Sven, and later on, Eve, are not sweepers as they relate to our world. Sweepers in their world are more like bounty hunters. If need be a sweeper will kill, but they get more money if they capture their bounty alive.
In the manga when Train leaves Cronos to become a sweeper he refuses to kill anyone, but that may be different in the anime.
Basically, Train is the gun-toting equal of Kenshin.
