This is the talkback thread for the world premiere of Cartoon Network's newest production: Robotboy (also produced by France 2, and some other company that I don't know the episode).
Monday 1st November:
Dog-Ra: Tommy and Gus find a lost puppy on the street and decide to adopt it, to the dislike of Robotboy
Since this show's basic premise is set during the title sequence (which was actually quite bland) the producers must have felt no need for an introductory episode. The whole storyline was quite cliche, what with Robotboy being jealous of the new dog, and whilst the fight was entertaining at the end, the top part of the episode was Gus' subplot with trying to get the dogs to like him. Apart from that, a pretty bland episode.
War and Pieces: Tommy must get Robotboy to Professor Moshimo before Kamikazi discovers that Robotboy has broken his aggro-capaciotor and cannot fight back.
This episode was better. We got to see all of the main characters together, and the storyline is original. I preferred the humour in this one, and the fight at the end was better choreographed. Much better than the dog one.
Overall: ****

I'll catch it in an hour or 2 :)
Was this REALLY a world premiere?

It's a Cartoon Network/France 2 original, and judging from the lip movements, it's been shot with the American voices... so unless it's been dubbed for the French market first, then yeah, it will be a world premiere, since the US haven't seen it yet.

Question: How can RobotBoy be a WORLD permiere if it's only aired in the UK?

By WORLD premiere, it means that it's the first time shown in the whole world. Same as a UK premiere would be something shown first time in the UK.
And I still missed it X_x I shall have to fight for the digibox after college.

You missed nothing
It sucked and to be blunt is trying to have dogs peeing on people and robot fart jokes as a way of trying to look big and mature like anime but realy being more junivile in the process.
I meen, this is like Taekwon V to Mazinger Z.
This is an attempt to copy what Astroboy, Megaman (Fyi: "Proto-boy", yeah, took a think tank to think up that name (!)) and "My Life as..." are in a horrid attempt to cash into the wave of ******** shows that are being slewed out at this point of time that nether entertains or amuses (but no doubt will sell tones of toys come Christmas).
And before you call foul with My life, let's put into prespective, My life actualy did somthing with the whole "robot must learn about human life" thing, 1) by making the robot "female" and 2) actualy being funny at the whole "...human life" thing.
RobotBoy just wasn't funny or entertaining and I could practiacly sound off the copys as it went on before finaly losting my temper with it, going up stairs and consoling myslef with an hour of Secret of Mana.
Come back when CN UK grows a spine and airs Adult Swim.

OK, tonight I am determined to see it xD
The shows you say it tries to imitate, I've never seen before either so for me it might be entertaining. But I usually agree with your statements.

Incidenrly, I think the bad guy is voiced by one of the Banzai anouncers.

I wouldn't know, but I didn't particularly like any of the voices. Ma... Er, Tommy and Lola didn't sound enough like kids. Gus's voice was just... Irritating beyond belief. But perhaps that's just his character, in which case, good job!
I laughed when Kamikaze got stung by a scorpion and started foaming at the mouth xD Man did he scream. I felt that I really did.
"Come on let's get that blood circulating. You're not even trying!"

I lost intrest when they used water as a deus-ex machina device.
Clearly, they jsut took some toothless french bum off the street and gave him a pencil and told him to get busy.

Dude you're probably going to hang me on a meat hook for saying this, but I'm really starting to enjoy this show. I just love the random screwball antics and comic violence. But that's just based on what I've seen so far. I also like Kamikaze's voice. It's very convincing Japanese, and he doesn't throw in annoying random Japanese words like they do in Puffy AmyYumi.

I'll admit, Robotboy's not bad. Not great but not bad. The best thing about this show, as well as the other new shows, is that it has kicked Da Boom Crew right off it's time slot. It seems CNUK does pay attention to their viewers. Getting rid of Da Boom Crew = wise move.

Which is odd because "THE" Boom Crew was topping the ratings. But it seems they've found a new home on Toonami and good riddance. I'm definately going to keep watching Robotboy and see how it does. It gets laughs out of me sure, but the fight scenes just make me cringe at how bad some of them are. The transformation sequence is annoying and useless as well.

How could it be topping the ratings? I was getting the impression that many wanted it off of CNUK asap which is why I thought it was kicked off.

The 10-20 or so UK viewers on this website pale in comparison to the millions of other viewers. Ratings of course, only shows how many people watch. They can't tell you if a show is good or not. They can however, show CN what they need to air more of. If it gets good, milk it to oblivion.

Don't trust British kids with ratings: They're different every week.
Seriously, ratings kinda mean nothing to CN, as they're different every week depending on how fickle the children watching are. One week CN could attract 200k viewers watching Teen Titans and be #1, and in another week, CN could attract 90k viewers watching Billy and Mandy and also be #1. Kids'll watch anything at anytime on CN - according to ratings - so it doesn't really matter to them: all their shows are successes.

This isn't any better but hey, free country besides, it's not like CN actualy give a darn about geting any ratings anyway they just plap the first POS they can get their paws on to thier channels.

This is the only "robotboy" that is worth watching

Granted the voices were grating but at least it had a message of tolerance of minorities plus was not done in shockwave like all these recent western cartoons are increasingly doing

Well, personally I don't mind as I seldom watch Toonami. Anything on there I'd watch I'd watch when it's on. I wouldn't use it for casual viewing though. Especially not knowing somewhere within the schedule lurks a show with an impossibly athletic fat kid. I mean come on! -_- I'm all for treating the obese equally but sheesh. Coop's cool and he don't move around much!
But anyway, I don't see what's so bad about Robotboy... I'm guessing he's a rip off of shows I have yet to see. Still, I find the most part rather entertaining. It could do just as well if the action scenes were totally scrapped though because I can't stand them personally. Like, at the beginning of one episode, he gets a new weapon download or something like that. Nothing much is said about it, but you can immediately tell that this is going to be used later in the episode to cheat death. And what do you know? "Robotboy! Use your new weapon!"
Plus was not done in shockwave like all these recent western cartoons are increasinly doingAs far as I can tell, Robotboy isn't one of these Flash shows. It may look the same as Fosters, but the movement doesn't look as cheap (cough)Duchess(/cough). I'm not too fond of hopping aboard the animé band-wagon personally, thus have yet to see Astroboy.

Agreed through and through,

Oh noes! He's gummed up with chocolate!
Good thing he fell into the river and caused the chocolate to melt away whilst some how not rusting over!
Oh noes! He's in a fight with his brother (who is totaly not a rip off of Protoman), Protoboy!
Good thing Kamekazi's an idiot who's only saving grace is his aswome voice actor and attaches a bomb onto him!
Oh noes!
Good thing!
That and CN probably had a chance for the UK rights to Astroboy 2k3 and chose this instead, cause, you know, they can't do anythin' right.

Most probably :) But yeah they would always choose something that sucked, and while I don't doubt you about Astroboy being far superior, I gotta say that RB isn't as bad as all that. It definately does have plus points to it.
I wonder if the bumpers before and during the show were made in Europe? They look kinda bad compared to ones from the US. My guess is it's CN UK trying to copy the style of the US bumper ads, but why not for other shows like Xiaolin Showdown? Have you seen the contest they did? The Xiaolin Phonedown thing? They animated Omi VERY well on that.

Wonder when they'll be fanarts of Robotboy being curbstomped , lobotomised or blasted to smithereens by Astro and pals? Most probably if this show debuts in America and is exposed to diehard Tetsuwan Atom fans

She seemed to lose it after a bit of talking though. Her real voice started to shine through after a while.
A few years ago they did really well for voice actors. Some sounded like the real deal and they may well have been. I recall a perfect Ed Edd n Eddy block once. That Fosters week earlier this year had a good Bloo voice and he/she seems to be back in a new contest I noticed yesterday.
But OMFG have you by some chance heard the voices from the KND Breakfast Bite? It sounds NOTHING like them! It makes me violently ill.
