We all love anime, but you have to admit: most of the dialogue can come off as a little cheesy in most series becuase of the translation. What anime are there that have great translated dialogue? The only ones that come to mind right now are Ghost in the Shell:SAC and FLCL

Well, if you're going by dialogue only, then IMHO Excel Saga ranks up there, almost (but not quite) doing justice to the original dub. There are actually two voice actors in this anime, as the first voice actor left halfway through after overstressing her vocal chords trying to keep up with Excel's dialogue.

ALL HAIL LORD IL PALAZZO!

ghost in the shell immediately comes to mind, but also azumanga daioh...I don't know but the translation wasn't bad I don't think. But to top all of them off, would definately have to be lupin the third

Kino's Journey recieved a faithful translation, and the writing was great. It also helps that ADV got some pretty good actors to play the main characters.

Also, (I'm sure several others will chime in as well), Haibane Renmei.

I guarantee everybody's gonna disagree with me, but I really liked Spike Spencer(Shinji) and Tiffany Grant(Asuka) in the dub

It was Misato's VA I had a problem with, she was horrible

I actually enjoyed the entire cast of Evangelion, even Spike Spencer (though I still have a problem or two with a few bits of dialogue/screaming).

Science fiction shows tend to come off better because they're more Western in feel anyway, so the science jargon usually comes off more natural than other anime genres.

Irresponsible Captain Tylor has some surprisingly witty dialogue at times, both dub or sub.

Read or Die, both OAV and TV, come off sounding smooth.

What anime are there that have great translated dialogue?
Definitely Gundam Wing, especially when someone gets into a monologue, and especially when that person's name is Treize Kushrenada.

Also the Crest/banner of the Stars series has some great dialouge.

...

Whenever I think of Gundam Wing's dub I always think of the first guy who spots Heero's entry into the atmosphere...

"It's probably just parts of an old satellite or something like that" delivered in the flattest monotone ever.

I have to strongly disagree on quality of dialogue, though. I found that it becomes very repetitive, with the same conversations and the same speeches being rehashed over and over. It does have moments, but it has far too many of the same moment for my liking. It's not "OMG NICHOL IS DEAD!!!1!1!1" bad (the SEED Nichol, not the Wing one), but it's still far from great scriptwriting.

Damn you. Now I have to go watch the show again...

Anyway, I'd have to toss in my vote for Paranoia Agent. Nice varied cast of characters, and they're all portrayed quite well.

People complain about the dub for Princess Mononoke and how it's been "butchered," but I actually had no problems with it. Much like Cowboy Bebop, I've never had any desire to watch it in Japanese. Could just be because I'm a mindless drooling fan of Neil Gaiman, but I'd like to think not.

Castle of Cagliostro's dub isn't necessarily Shakespeare-quality, but it's good enough to support the movie's purpose as a fun romp. Great movie, too.

Avoid most Gundam dubs like the plague. 08th MS Team and Wing were the only ones I've even remotely liked, although I've yet to see F-91.

Koi Kaze has excellent dialogue, a must for any character-driven drama. I also second Paranoia Agent and Evangelion.

Sure, its not all gold, but when its good its very good and heavier then what's generally said in Gundam and a lot of other shows.

F91's dub is decent and I find that Char's Counterattack is also handled well.

Fruits Basket had some great dialogue, As did Cowboy Bebop.....umm Gundam Wing did from time to time, but it was mostly big on monologues....Outlaw star had some great dialogue scenes....So did Wild Arms...for some reason the space westerns were pretty good with dialogue cause some of the scenes with Vash and Wolfwood and Trigun were pretty good too.

Wing's dialogue...I agree Treize could pull of some good speeches, but then he's about the only one with anything close to a believable philosophy. Most of the dialogue is pseudo intellectual in nature. Were the show actually saying anything worthwhile I'd applaud it, but it isn't.

Excel has some fun dialogue (especially love how Excel wins in the bowling ep, only to be told it's cheating. Something certain characters in some tournament shows could stand to hear :p ) but I think about halfway the parodying of cheesey common anime dialogue does kinda lose it's humour a bit.

Cromartie High School is a treasure trove of great dialog.Exactly what iwas thinking. Those moments when the lead and kamiyama were waiting for the moment where someone would finally refer to mechazawa as a robot were just priceless in the dub when i saw it on The AN.

Oh I wanted to add Fullmetal Panic, while they are in battle, there are some great dialogue scenes.

Definitely Gundam Wing, especially when someone gets into a monologue, and especially when that person's name is Treize Kushrenada.heh, I forgot about gundam wing, my fair gundam wing. Those speeches had a lot of depth actually. I am eerily reminded of episode 12 (I believe) when heero masquerades as duo and gives that speech in front of the entire classroom, and makes some really good (and eloquent) points about humanity. Speaking of which, big o had some excellent speeches that I have used in my higher level philosophy and psychology classes...*laughs* gee I pull quotes from anime in order to get an A. I am the ultimate fan boy
