Heya Cafe folks!

I've been pondering and pondering what to do this year for All Hallow's Eve, with little success. The reason? Halloween falls on a Monday this year, making the usual weekend-related plans seem a little less likely. Some folks are getting together tonight...others are planning to go out on Saturday night...and of course, the trick-or-treaters are heading out on a Monday. Three nights of Halloween? Blame it on the Monday, I say.

So, my question is, what are you doing this year and when? For those of you who no longer trick or treat, how do you intend to celebrate the festivities this year? Costume party? Club hopping? Movie marathon? And, of course, I'm interested in hearing your costume ideas and plans...

Hope everyone has a good one!

The way our family celebrates holloween is by not celebrating it.

For the last couple of years
We've kept the door light off
Our candy has been sparse
Our guests have been few
And that's the way we like it
Because Holloween is not celebrated

We can handle Halloween no matter what day it falls on, because the trick-or-treaters are usually done about 9PM anyway. We've already finished putting up all of decorations. All we have left to get is some dry ice to make some fog, but otherwise, I'll probably spend the weekend watching scary movies and stuff, and probably a few more Halloween night after we're finished giving out candy.

My family moved recently, so we're not sure what might happen in this new neighborhood. But the trick-or-treaters shouldn't be so bad. I'm probably just going to watch some movies.

None for this year. I wanted to cosplay, but I guess I never got the chance (besides, it'll take me too long).

Three of my friends cosplayed today, and I won't be seeing them on Halloween (I somehow have a 4 day weekend, which might be odd to you guys). So, I'll just stay at home, watch some stuff, go online, give candy to the little kiddies, and do some homework.

I did have a plan to go trick-or-treating...but only to my teachers. I just need all the phonebooks for NYC and Long Island, and see who's listed. But we need a car.

The best thing about Halloween is that HELLOWEEN is always snuck onto Headbangers Ball and VH1's Metal Mania. Those guys rocked. The few lurking serious metal haeds here know what I'm talking about.

Anyone who doesn't, don't be alarmed. Despite the little "e" in their name, they're about as satanic as the bark on a tree.

No idea what I'm doing for Halloween. We get a ton of trick-or-treaters, whether it snows or not. I think people bus kids into our neighborhood to get candy. Anyway, I was supposed to make plans with a friend but she wasn't at school today, so I'll have to talk to her this weekend. Maybe we'll watch some YYH or something. She had the idea to go trick-or-treating (which I haven't done since I was 12, so 5 years ago), but neither of us have costumes, lol. But if I did, I think I'd go as a Jedi, with a cloak and a lightsaber:p

But I'll probably have homework and such anyway. That's what happens on school nights.

I'll probably end up handing out candy to the little kids. Though I really want to scare the little kids however my parents told if I was planning to scare kids it can't be the toddlers and it's pretty understandable. They're easy to scare however they'll end up tramatized and I don't want to get in trouble with their parents.

At least my school is having Halloween Party however I can't go because I have to the DMV(Right before it opens so I'll be first in line  ) get my car's lisence plate renewal.

Probably staying home watching my Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry DVD's and surfing the net while my mom throws packs of Candy into little kids bags.

My little brother is going trick-or-treating on Sunday and maybe Monday in another city (one of my sisters lives in an area that has trick-or-treating on Halloween itself, but our city always has it on the weekend before) and I might get dragged along, but I really hope not. He's going as Yami Yugi, btw. He wanted to be a wizard but we couldn't find him a wizard costume, so he picked out Yugi. I wanted him to be Spider-Man or Batman or even a Blue Ranger, but nooooo. He had to be the lame king of games. =(

Sunday, I was hoping on watching a few scary movies. Monday, I'll probably be doing nothing or if I don't get a chance to watch some horror flicks on Sunday, I'll watch them then. I'm so boring. =P

I usually hide out on Halloween. We live in an apartment complex and they give us a little sign to put on the door if we want Trick or Treaters to come knocking. In the past, I've celebrated the holiday by watching a good horror movie. I'm not sure what I'll do this year....they have a few horror movies on sale at Best Buy, but I couldn't decide on one last time I was there. I may go out tomorrow and try again, if not I may make the occassion by finally getting around to starting a Resident Evil game as Jill Valentine (haven't played as her yet).

My brother usually avoids my festivities. Perhaps he's disturbed by my tendency to giggle at horror movies.

Last year I through red jello to a kid that thought it was blood, so this year I'm going to try to do that again.

But to trick-or-treat in my nieghborhood? Thats suicidal. But I do walk around my building and scare the kids in the staircase if there's nothing on tv.

I love blending in with the wall in the staircase, then when some kid walks down with a bootleg batman costume, I just jump out and scream "boo!" or something..Ahh good times.

This year I was actually going to try to get in the nyc halloween parade. Looks like that isn't happening. You need a parent. And a good costume...those critics...Bah! I don't like walking 20 blocks in a costume at night in the freezing cold for 2 hours anyway.

And if you knock on my door, don't think you'll leave without red jello on you...

 Let the tricks begin.

My Halloween plans have been and gone. Yesterday night me and a few friend went down to the local street party. It's been getting way to crowded in recent years though, the only good reason to go anymore is to have an excuse to wear a costume. Oh, and poffertjies. (I also have no idea how to spell that. You know, the little pancake things? )

It was fun, and there were a number of great costumes. (Though the majority was just people wearing black and rubber masks. Cop-out!) There was a little boy who had to be about six dressed as Doctor Who, complete with a cardboard box Tardis. That he was like, wearing. On him. It was absurdly cute.

 I saw a awesome party happening in San Francisco off Van Ness. There were so many freaky people over there I wish I could go but I didn't have time to look for a costume. Also I was thinking about carving like hundred pumpkins (Exaggerating, just meaning a lot) and decorating my house with them, ya know having them at every corner of my house...ALAS I talk of the things I wish could do this halloween...I just celebrate by going to school and passing out candy to the more truer and festive "Trick or Treaters"............Happy Halloween.

I did my Halloween thing at the Museum of Comic & Cartoon Art where they held a private masquerade ball for volunteers and I think sponsors. The theme was Illustrious Allies and Modern Fairy Tales. I did the Green Lantern thing (add a mask and homemade ring to a GL T-shirt: Instant Costume). The other participants came as comic book characters, fairy tales creatures, and they were all very creative. I wish I had pictures to show.

For some reason, I've always enjoyed dressing up and pretending to be someone else. I can't understand why role play is limited to Halloween, the theater, and conventions. I think we should dedicate at least two days out of the year for cosplay purposes. We'd have Halloween for the kids, and Character Day for everyone else. And why is Halloween wasted on youth, when adults have more purchasing power and can afford more elaborate costumes?

So yeah. Every day should be a masquerade party. :anime:

Character day, eh? Sounds risky. People dress up as those they feel some kind of connection to. Costumes actually reveal more than they conceal you know? Having folks be "forced" to admit their passion for say...Green Lantern, or anyone else could come across as invasive. But yes, I do like dressing up too :)

So it seems like plenty of folks are just doing homework, or maybe watching a horror flick. I really thought lots of people went to costume parties or out clubbing on Halloween, but the more people I talk to, the more I see that Halloween isn't as popular as I thought it was. Folks seem content to stip it.

I started this thread out of frustration somewhat. Friends I'd hoped to go to parties with were all heading out with their significant others, with no desire for a tag-along. In the end, I dressed up and went out with a friend whose boyfriend was busy. We checked out some local pumpkins, tourists and events, and finally settled down at our favorite pub with some store-bought candy and popcorn as a live band played. Quite fun...

...but I still would have loved to go to a party

This year I painted a pumpkin with Tempra paint. I gave it big anime eyes, and blue hair. The facial expression is like this emoticon with the eyes open: :anime:
