Scene: Another day at Rydell High. The kids are all buzzing and chatting, when Miss Lynch enters.
MISS LYNCH: Alright, everyone, settle down, because I have exciting news! I'm sure you all know that today is Earth Day. And, of course we all know that Earth Day is more than just volunteering to pick up trash, etc.
RIZZO: (Raises hand) Yes, it's also about helping the nice people all around you who aren't lucky enough to get around by themselves.
KENICKIE: Yeah, IF you get paid by those people. Besides, who would want to volunteer for more than one thing, anyway?
RIZZO: Duh! Lots of other people! Without the payment!
MISS LYNCH: That's right, Betty. (Towards the class) And to honor Earth Day, each of you are going to lend a helping hand by fulfilling a job on things we do to help our planet, including helping other people immensely. You can each pick one at the bulletin board after school. (Pauses) Now, how about a pop quiz?
(Kids gasp)
After school: Kenickie and Rizzo are at the bulletin board.
KENICKIE: Two jobs left; helping the old lady or picking up trash on the beach. Well I'm definitely not going to waste my time picking up trash on a stupid beach. (Pauses) Maybe we should go to the old lady. I'll bet she'll have cookies for us, anything to relax on.
RIZZO: Probably.
(Kenickie grabs job. Jan enters grabbing last job)
RIZZO: Have fun at the beach, Jan! (Walks out the school doors)
KENICKIE: (Runs off after Rizzo) Hey, wait up!
(Jan scratches her head)

Scene: After school - Kenickie and Rizzo are standing in front of a two-story retirement home.
KENICKIE: 1613 N. Cherrytop Ave. Yep, this is the place. (Rings doorbell)
(An old lady in her mid-70s opens door in a wheelchair)
CLAIRE: Oh, you two must be my little volunteers from Rydell High.
RIZZO: I'm, um, Betty and this is Kenickie.
CLAIRE: I'm Claire, and obviously your school didn't even mention my name. Come in, come in!
(The three walk into the door)
CLAIRE: I'm so glad you guys came!
KENICKIE: So, what're we here to do? Eat and watch TV all day?
(Rizzo glares at him)
CLAIRE: Well, first of all, I want you to help me with my backyard.
KENICKIE: We will?
RIZZO: Of course! We're volunteers! What'd you expect her to do, since she's on a wheelchair? Do the stuff all by herself?
KENICKIE: Well that's what I was hoping for.
(The three walk out into the backyard. Rizzo and Kenickie have their eyes widened and jaws open as to what they were seeing: overgrown trees, unwatered flower garden, bushes with weeds sticking out everywhere, etc.)
CLAIRE: It's sort of a little cluttered.
KENICKIE: WAY too cluttered, ma'mm! This place is a jungle compared to a downright mess!
Soon: The two volunteers are off to work. Kenickie is up on a ladder pulling dead branches from a tree, while Rizzo is cutting weeds from the bushes.
RIZZO: Hey, Knicks! Would you mind giving me a hand with these weeds?!
KENICKIE: CAN'T YOU SEE I'M BUSY RIGHT NOW?!
(At that point, Rizzo pulls the weeds too hard on the ladder's side, causing her to bump into the ladder and eventually causing Kenickie to fall down from it, flat all the way in the bush!)
Later: Claire comes out in the yard to check on the volunteers' progress, since they were already done.
CLAIRE: My, you both did a fantastic job on my yard!
RIZZO: Now can we take a break?
CLAIRE: Not yet. I want you to do a few more things around the house for me.
KENICKIE: In this case, the word "few" is going to be a big problem in this part of the job!

Scene: The two volunteers and Claire are sitting in the living room, hours after the backyard clean-up.
CLAIRE: I can't thank you kids enough for how you have helped my house!
KENICKIE: (Listless) Isn't it amazing?
RIZZO: Let's see. We cleaned up all the other clutter in the house, made all the beds, washed all the dirty dishes, wiped all the tables and in the sinks, bleached all the bathroom toilets, hung the clothes up, refilled the kitty litter boxes, cleaned out the chimney, made dinner...I guess that's it.
CLAIRE: I wonder if you'd mind doing one more thing for me.
KENICKIE: Heck to the no! I'm sorry, but you have to admit that your house is so hard to keep together!
CLAIRE: (Picking up a brownie from a brownie dish on the end table) I was talking about finishing these brownies.
KENICKIE: (Speechless) On second thought, I apoligize!
CLAIRE: No, I'm the one who should be sorry. I've kept you guys here long enough.
RIZZO: Well, we can stay a little longer if you want.
CLAIRE: And watch TV.
KENICKIE: Yes!
CLAIRE: And eat some brownies.
KENICKIE: Absolutely! (Grabbing a brownie)
CLAIRE: And maybe do a little vacuuming?
KENICKIE: HUH?! (Drops brownie speechless)
Soon: Rizzo and Kenickie are leaving out the front door of Claire's house.
CLAIRE: 'Bye! Thanks for coming!
KENICKIE: (Murmurs) Yeah, right. (To Rizzo) I am never volunteering for anyone again.
RIZZO: Oh, come on Kenickie! It wasn't that bad!
KENICKIE: Whatever. Let's just be thankful that we finished the job.
(Jan enters)
JAN: Hi, guys! How was your volunteer project?
RIZZO and KENICKIE: Um...(Looks at each other and back at Jan) It was good.
JAN: Well, while I was at the beach, a man lost his shoes on the beach and I found them while I was picking up garbage. He offered me 10 fat bucks for finding them for him!
KENICKIE: (Stares at Rizzo) You were saying?
Scene: Next day - Rizzo and Kenickie are at the front desk of the school library.
RIZZO: Excuse me, we'd like to return this book on, um, management sources.
(The front desk lady turns around. Only, it was a big surprise!)
KENICKIE: Claire!!! What are you doing here?!
CLAIRE: You didn't know? I volunteer at the school library once a week. And speaking of volunteering, I wonder if you could help me with a few books.
RIZZO and KENICKIE: (Racing out of the library) AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
THE END
