Oh my god. We get season 3!!! Wow, we sure showed CN. They couldn't ignore the CL Fan outcry.

French toon producer/distributor MoonScoop has announced production of 45 additional episodes of Code Lyoko for Cartoon Network, giving the series a total of 97 episodes, C21Media (http://www.c21media.net/news/detail.asp?area=79&article=27065) reports.

Due in September 2006, season three will be accompanied by a major merchandising campaign to cover a broad range of licensed products including toys, clothes, stationary, school bags, and a Code Lyoko game on the Nintendo DS platform. Toys and the DS game are old news, but clothes, stationary ans school bags? This is awsome. I just hope they don't burn out the show woth overproduction.

oh and here you go non beliavers.

Moonscoop has signed FUNimation Entertainment as the exclusive licensing agent in the US, with Marvel Toys holding the worldwide master toy licence. The latest deal with Cartoon Network gives the series a total of 97 episodes. http://www.c21media.net/news/detail.asp?area=79&article=27065

A third season? An order of 45 episodes? Wow... that's just unbelievable! Talk about the little show that could... kids usually talk about 'Totally Spies' and 'Winx Club' when it comes to European animation imports, so to see 'Code: Lyoko' not only get renewed but with a very large order too shows kids are into one of the most, if not the most, dramatic cartoons on American TV today.

The renewal, though, also begs questions about the remaining episodes of Season Two. Maybe XANA won't bite the bucket after all, or an antivirus won't be found to separate it from Aelita. Maybe we won't find out as much about Franz Hopper or Lyoko as we thought we would. The good thing about it, though, as that we probably now don't know what to expect come the Season Two finale... which might end up being more interesting/intriguing in the long run.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this. A show with questionable ratings gets 90+ episodes. Okay, can I have 40 more episodes of Samurai Jack then? Or is that show too critically acclaimed for you guys? An Emmy award and second nomination aren't enough, I guess?

All hail the new "imported domestic" animation era!Why questionable ratings. Its ratings are very high. Have you seen the internet forums lately besides this one. CL rave is it an all time high.

solarflere
10-19-2005, 07:39 PM
Its ratings aren't high and Neilson ratings determine popularity, not the amount of registered members on a fan message board.

It's continuing to be produced because it's from France and is cheaper than a show produced at Cartoon Network Studios/Rough Draft. After all, the quality isn't important anymore, it's how much money you can save.I don't know if they are saving that much since they are dealing with FUNi directly now, not Moonscoop. And it was a proven fact the CL creators visit their own and other boards. It obviously had influance on season 2. And the fan base for CL in U.S. alone is huge.

Perhaps ratings are up quite a bit for the second season. Also, I'd imagine that a chunk of the production costs are covered by the French network that airs the series and/or other European channels.

Yay! for more Code: Lyoko

Boo! if they end up dragging it out too long.

They'd better keep the show fresh, adding new dimensions while still allowing the kids to slowly progress along the mystery. Giving a show like this length adds a new challenge to the writers.

Hopefully all this recognition doesn't make them lazy.

hmm  I was, and still am a fan of SamuraiJack, I enjoyed it for it's different animation style, within the confines of "flash" (I believe it's called)
interesting characters and stories. But I felt it just wasn't developing the story beyond the first season. I would have liked a real end rather than the mishmash we got, but.

Didn't Fosters win an Emmy as well?

Outside of the fact that France3 provided the upfront risk money and that overseas licencing is mostly gravey for a show where ever it comes from. I wouldn't say that France with it's large unions and liberal labor laws is likely to be cheaper. And I believe that animation anywhere in the world uses the same Korean studios for most of the general production.

I haven't heard the ratings for CL beyond the first season rating very high in the target audience. From looking around at the internet fan base, it feels small for an action show, but has a high level of dedication. The second seasons shows that the producers have a good handle on what the fans want from the show and a longer run has a very low risk of failure now.

I had no belief that Xana or the story of CL would end with season two just from seeing how much they've improved the shows animation. I'm a little shocked the a third season is coming so quickly and thrilled that they've released the news already

You can also turn the lines off by making the line color "none".

But Jack really isn't done in flash. There was some computer work done on it (as with all shows these days), but it was not Flash. Mucha Lucha was the first flash-animated series, and SJ predates it.

With a proper series ending/movie. I heard Genndy only wanted a movie to wrap up the series, but CN would only give him another season, so he just decided to let it go. If it's true, CN isn't really at fault since they were probably uneasy with how the PPG movie went.

Look i dont mess with your cartoons for example HHPAY, thats my opinion and you have to respect that. When was the last time I watched Hi Hi? Oh, yeah, months ago.

I really don't care what you say about the animations I watch. It might actually make for an intellectual discussion, if we actually talked about it. I was just merely expressing my opinions about Megas XLR, a show that I watched... I assure you, I liked it, but I do have to admit that there are flaws in just about every series I watch.

W.I.T.C.H., for example. Dubbing; what were they doing? On two occasions did they get the voices of Will and Irma mixed up, and for what reason?

Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi? The secondary character designs suck, and the backgrounds are even worse. Yet, I still like the show.

So, it's alright to watch shows with flaws, whether they be minor or major.

It has controll over anything CL except for toys, that had Marvel. So basicaly Marvel and FUNi dominate the CL production in the U.S.If that's the truth... I'm just going to ask:

WHY?

If Cartoon Network originally dealt with Anteflims, then with Moonscoop, and now with Funimation... somebody make that into a brain teaser.

solarflere

If Cartoon Network originally dealt with Anteflims, then with Moonscoop, and now with Funimation... somebody make that into a brain teaser. It was not up to CN. Moonscoop, the production company which releases CL to the world signed a deal with FINi. CN was out of the loop. FUNi holds the exclusive distribution rights in the entire US. Hey, I didn't make that up. Thats what C21Media reports, and if its good enough source for Toon Zone (which first reported it) its good enough for me.

Excellent.

Season 2 is a dramatic improvement over season one in just about every possible way, and I only hope the trend continues.

About that SJ news, was that really true? If so, did he insist on a theatrical movie? Because they could have just made a TV movie like Birth of Evil or Scotsman saves Jack.

They start tommorow with "Vertigo" and end on November 01 with "Is anybody out there?". Then it'll be re-runs starting from "Marabounta" and moving from there. Then once the re-runs are done, I estimate they'll wrap up the season with the last four episodes ("Contact", "Franz Hopper", "Revelation", and "The Key")

There is no rule saying you can't discuss shows you don't like. As long as theres no flame wars, by all means people can discuss things. If each and every single thread out there was dominated by people who all felt the exact same way about stuff, then the discussion would get pretty boring.

This thread is about the news item that said that Code Lyoko got a new season. This makes some people happy and some mad, and each are allowed to post their view, not just the happy fans.

Though I have to say, it seems like most of the unhappy people are only mad out of spite because this show got renewed when some of their old favorites didn't. While I do agree CN has made some bad choices with past shows, this defenitely isn't one of them. This is a huge victory for animated justice. Just be happy that a good show is doing good.

EscaflownePilot

Agreed. Why do people keep making the argument that Samurai Jack or Megas XLR should've been renewed instead?

Renewing a cheaper foreign acquisition really doesn't compare to renewing and fully funding an original series, regardless of how close the shows in question are with regards to their ratings. You all realize that were Code Lyoko not renewed, it still wouldn't mean that Samurai Jack and/or Megas XLR would be renewed, right?
