I used to watch Days of Our Lives when John Delancy was on it. He played Q in Star Trek and he played Eugene on Days of Our Lives. He was quite a quirky character, as you can imagine, much different than I would expect from a soap. But after they days of Eugene, my interest in that show wayned to nothing.
I have seen several episodes of EastEnders, too, and would probably still watch it if I got BBC America.

I read the "soap operas" in newspapers, like Rex Parker. Does that count?

Watch? No.
Visit? Yes!
I've been on the set of "One Life to Live", and it was a fascinating experience. You can't imagine how small the sets actually are. Most of the time, if the camera moved over one inch, you'd see the soundstage wall, or one of the crew. The actors stand by studying their lines (often seeing them for the first time), then jump in and shoot the scene as quickly as possible. Then every gets up, moves to another set, and they do another scene. They have to do a whole show every day, so they move very, very fast.
On a somewhat related note, the same day I visted OLTL, I went to the "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" set, and I got to sit in Regis Philbin's chair! :bosko:

I would watch an animated soap opera (and I have--an anime one), but not American live action ones. I also watch British soap.

No. I just can't watch those. They're so corny! Somebody's got amnesia, while someone else is trying stop someone's wedding to so-and-so, when it turns out that the groom is the bride's half-brother whose mother was a criminal with a life sentence in jail who was thought to be dead but really isn't... *pant*pant*pant* Yeah, so you get what I mean. :p Don't watch 'em, can't stand 'em. But perhaps an animated version would be entertaining.

If I was threatened between death and watching a soap, well I'd...
Choose the soap obviously, but otherwise I like to keep my distance.

Ok, what about prime time soaps?
The only prime time soap I REALLY liked was the show called SOAP. I seriously want that entire series on DVD something bad.

Used to watch General Hospital, but now they broke off Luke and Laura's marriage, took away good actors (or the good actors left), and it's so.........the plots aren't well written anymore. Or maybe I grew up. One of those. But now, where I work, the lady I work for listens to the soaps on radio so I have no choice but to listen to all these things go on, and it's SO DUMB. Soaps these days have a lack of substance in my opinion. =P

i use to watch "dallas" back in the day, and the scary thing is i was really young, like in 3rd grade or something, and i really liked it. probably cause my dad watched it and you know how you look up to things your parents do. besides i liked all the corporate power play. i was a weird kid. peace.

You notice there is something more resepectable about prime time soaps than day time soaps? Daytime soaps are always seen as being for women, and rarely would you find a guy admitting to liking them. But prime time soaps are seemingly more acceptable by a wider range of audiences.
Anybody here get the Soap Opera channel? I cannot imagine watching marathon blocks of that stuff.

I've really never heard of that one. I bet it comes on a channel I rarely watch or something.

I stay away from all soap operas, but my mom watches Spanish soap operas.
I only like one thing about them...they end!
But I won't watch them at all.

"Dallas" was a huge hit back in the late 70s and early 80s. Surely you've heard of the famous "Who Shot J.R.?" cliffhanger from it?

There are still prime time soaps today. Melrose Place is one that comes to mind, Dawson's Creek, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Babylon 5, and some others. I don't think of a soap opera as necessarily the day time soaps. To me, a soap is a continuing story line that runs thru out an entire dramatic series, usually revolving around a few families or certain small groups or some large groups. Twin Peaks, for example, is also an example of a prime time soap opera that was certainly NOTHING like Young and the Restless or any of those. So I think prime time soaps are better than day time soaps.

I used to watch it back in those days(pardon the pun), also. He created the robot, right. You must also remember the Salem Strangler. Man, I thought he had gotten Marlena.

Oh, yeah, that's right. I also remember Bo and Hope's wedding. That was quite a big story line for the series back then. But Eugene and Calliope were the characters that really made the show for me. I seem to remember one where Eugene was at some bar and he had images of himself appearing at various parts in the bar.
