Okay. I walked into my parents' room a while ago and I saw this old black and white cartoon playing on the screen. It featured 3 ladies singing and all these bizarre things happening around them. I checked the info and it said it was called The Triplets Of Belleville. Anyone familiar with this animated film?

I saw it in theaters and no it's not a black and white film. That was just the opening you caught. The story is somewhat similar to Finding Nemo, but there is almost no verbal dialogue and it's one of the most original pieces of animation to date. Nemo got the oscar over this and I was disapointed.

An extremely awesome movie. I love how the characters, for the most part doesn't talk and let their expressions and motions do all the "talking." It certainly gives it a much needed twist in the media. Not to mention even the animation itself is unique. Finally, something not anime or too American-ish. In fact, I think this kinda fits in it's own genre. The artist certainly had a love for drawing chubbsy people.:D

I rented it on DVD a few years back and really enjoyed it. I probably watched that music video of Belleville Rendez-vous several times because it was just as bizarre as the film plus the song is really good.

Maybe I'm just not refined enough to enjoy it, but I really hated this movie. I liked the black and white opening scene (and the song is damn catchy), but the rest of the movie was just didn't do it for me. It was the sort of thing that felt like it was moving at a snail's pace in an attempt to be artsy, but just ended up feeling mindnumbingly boring. There were a few cool things across it, yeah, but it was much, much longer than it needed to be. I mean, friends of mine fell asleep during it, and we even made it through Dark Crystal :P

No offense meant,,,I do not think it is like Finding Nemo...There is a level of satire there, that makes it different than most movies ever done in annimation.
Drawings are odd, bizzare, as someone stated, beyound reality, in a way, that only viewing can define.. Satiriacal annimation clearly meant for adults, and has a very unpleasant view of life
...Makes fun, in a dark dingy way of life, Americans, and oddly, the French themselves, it is a French movie..(French are very lean and well dressed, while depiction in this film is fat and sloppy) .I saw it with subtitles...but they are not necesary, The story tells itself..I recommend it highly..but it is not for kids, it stands by itself, alone.

I love this movie!
I have to say, it's a lot better in the theatre on the big screen, but it's extremely clever, and it's nice to know that someone out there is still making innovative animated movies.
